Glow by Khun Jeremy In more than 24 years in the Middle East, I can't remember ever taking a single photo of my surroundings and if I did then no doubt there was a plate of food in front of me at the time! I suppose I could have taken an easier route and turned up at one of Dubai's iconic buildings but I always seem to end up with wigwams so with having a little knowledge of the desert I hired a car and headed for Hatta. My problems arose when I discovered you can no longer drive through the Oman border, the shortest route to Hatta, and was forced to take a right angled detour at Al Madam. Worried that I might run out of time before the sunset I made an executive decision to just look for a nice stretch of desert along the way. Easier said than done with every person owning a 4 x 4 embossing his Yokohamas into it! Eventually a wonderful spot in the distance appeared and I took any road I could to reach it. But then the road ran out and it became obvious why when I saw an abandoned road roller at the end of it, the road simply wasn't finished! The view was just beautiful though and I wasn't going to give up so easily so after a good 30 minute hike and achieving not much further than a kilometer along with boots full of sand, my luck was in when a 4 x 4 pulled pulled up with 3 Emiratis who couldn't wait to show me the best off road track in Dubai and how quickly I could bring up my lunch onto my lap! The glow was caused by the wind blowing the sand into the rim of light along the edge of the dune. You need to use a fast shutter speed whenever shooting the desert because it is constantly shifting and my attempts to create a multi-shot pano were a dismal failure. Thank you for passing by :) * * * * https://flic.kr/p/QBC6na
