«"Actually, I’ve always wanted to paint a room entirely as a mural", said Gottfried Böhm during a talk on the hall in Saarbrüecken castle. Böhm feels that architecture murals and church windows cannot be treated as separate subjects. He started working with church windows. For the first commission he worked on as a boy in his father’s office at the beginning of the 1930’s, he created a abstract, cubist designs for the circular glass windows of St. Engelbert in Cologne-Riehl. (…) In designing church windows, Böhm always attached particular importance to the way in which the color of the glass altered the incoming light and how this subsequently influenced the atmosphere of the room.» by Gabriele Wiesemann.
