after wei goes viral for his pushup record on knowing brothers, jinhwan has something to say. with @idxwei​

jinhwan presses the call button on his phone furiously, clenching his jaw as he hears the ringing through his headphones. he’s been pacing the length of xlnc’s dorm so much that he’s probably going to wear a ridge into the floor where he has been walking, but he doesn’t care. all he cares about was contacting wei, and fuck, why isn’t he answering his phone?

that spot on knowing brothers was supposed to be his, not wei’s. the bastard said he would help him get a spot, that he knew the producers from when he was on the show before. he said that he would help jinhwan out, help xlnc out, get them a spot on the show, not take it for himself. and, to top it all off, the bastard was trending on pann now-- for push-ups, of all things. could that musclehead stop with the pushups for a minute? stop flexing and showing off and think about helping someone else, for once? jinhwan was his friend, they were supposed to be friends. friends don’t take opportunities away from each other like that, right?

apparently not, jinhwan thinks bitterly, as the call goes to voicemail for the fifth time. fuck. so he doesn’t even have the decency to answer his calls? doesn’t have the courage to face jinhwan after what he did? so he isn’t just a liar and a snake, but a coward, too. jinhwan is about ready to throw his phone across the room.

that wouldn’t help anything, though, so instead, he opens up his kakaotalk chat with wei and starts typing. “pick up ur fucking phone” he types. “stop ignoring me.” “ur being a coward.” “how the fuck could u think it was ok to do this.” “if u dont answer im coming over” “im gonna settle this in person”

jinhwan doesn’t even wait, doesn’t give wei a chance to reply to his texts before he’s shoving his shoes on and grabbing a hat and mask. wei had his chance, and he decided to waste it. now, wei was gonna have to deal with him face to face.

wei and woosung’s first interaction, backstage at a music show. with @idxwei

woosung didn’t make much of a habit out of doing one-on-one introductions. he wasn’t much of a conversationalist, he knew that much— his nerves just always seemed to get the better of him in more personal interactions. he could keep it together well enough in interviews, or talking to crowds of fans, something about the structure and the emotional distance of it putting him at ease. but these sorts of things, off the script conversations where there was someone able to judge him directly… that always messed with woosung.

but his mom had been telling him to put himself out there more, pushing him to try and make some friends. i’m worried about you, will, she’d said the last time he called, soft-spoken english flowing over the line. you never mention having any friends, you hardly even talk about your own groupmates. don’t you want someone to talk to? her words weren’t exactly off the mark— woosung wanted friends, sure, he just wasn’t sure how. years of being picked on and scrutinized hadn’t done wonders for his confidence or social skills, so attempting to make friends was usually more anxiety-inducing than rewarding. but woosung figured that starting with introducing himself to some b.rite members was as good of an attempt as anything.

backstage at a music show was probably not the most casual and relaxing atmosphere— especially when woosung was extremely aware of how much makeup was caked on his face— but he knew his opportunities for things like this was limited. so when he spotted wei, recognizing the tall, young man easily through the crowd, he steeled himself, took a deep breath, then hurried after him.

“sorry!” woosung called, catching up to wei. his voice sounded too loud to his own ears, even though he had hardly raised it loud enough for wei to hear. “sorry, sorry to bother you, i just… i wanted to introduce myself. individually.” even just voicing that out loud made his chest feel tight, at risk of caving in. what was he doing? why did he think this was a good idea? he was already here now, though— there wasn’t any way woosung could back out without making things even more awkward or making an ass out of himself. he licked his dry lips, then bowed hurriedly, struggling to even look at wei.

on the set of a variety show, jinhwan tries to get between @idxdanny​ and @idxwei​

jinhwan clapped when the producers of the show announced a filming break, standing hurriedly and bowing to the other guests on the show with him. he was a bit sore from sitting for a long time, his knees and hips aching, but he knew that making a good impression on these sorts of variety shows was important, so he didn’t dare complain. although, there was one particular guest on the show who he wasn’t particularly careful about making a good impression with.

jinhwan glanced over at wei as he made polite conversation with one of the more senior guests on the show, making sure to keep it brief enough that the other wouldn’t notice. he had been angry at first, when he walked onto the set and saw wei there, just the sight of the other bringing up a host of unpleasant memories. but then, the smugness had set in. he’d gotten an opportunity without wei’s help— the same level of opportunity that wei was able to get. it helped his ego, knowing that he and the rest of xlnc weren’t as irrelevant as wei liked to think they were. what made it even better was he’d gotten it on his own merit, not as a handout or as a favour from anyone else. he didn’t have to rely on wei to get further in the industry— his own hard work had paid off and gotten him here.

and when danny had appeared behind wei? well, that was just a bonus. there’s no way that wei hadn’t panicked when he realized that jinhwan and danny were in the same room, with jinhwan knowing what he knew about wei’s feelings. but jinhwan wasn’t about to tell danny— no, that wouldn’t be satisfying enough. jinhwan had a much more gratifying plan.

he’d been keeping more of an eye on danny than on wei during the break, waiting for a moment to catch danny alone. when he saw danny move away from wei, presumably to grab water or something of the sort, jinhwan knew he had to take the chance. he politely excused himself from conversation with some of the other guests, moving to jog after danny.

stay in the hotel, it’s the only way we know you won’t get yourself into any trouble. his managers words had been actually pretty stern this time around when he had gotten pulled into his room a few hours ago. and he won’t lie, it’s pretty rare that jinsung follows the rules. he’s disregarded them in the past plenty of times, had spent hours losing himself in whatever city they were in. what was the fun in being a famous idol and traveling the world if all he’s going to do is experience the country through the windows?

the thought of sneaking out did cross his mind this time, but he was too tired to go through it all. and so for once, he kept true to his word and spent a few hours in his room catching up on some games and reading he’d had no time on for the past couple of weeks. but that hadn’t lasted long at all. instead it had left him feeling cooped up, like an itch he couldn’t find to scratch. instead of sitting still jinsung had found himself pacing the hallways of the hotel, circling each level a few times before heading up or down the stairs to the next floor. it isn’t until he runs into an employee that raises their eyebrow at him, clearing letting him know that someone probably complained about him pacing the hallways.

he groans and stretches out on the table top, his head cradled in his folded arms. after encountering the employee in the hallway, jinsung headed straight down to the hotel’s bar. he shuffle slightly and bumps into one of the empty plates to his left, silverware clanking against the glassware, evidence of all the appetizers he ordered in stilted english complete with a few words acted out. the food had been delicious, the drinks even better. and slowly the burning feeling under his skin had begun to fade away as the alcohol had flooded in taking its place. now he was warm and properly tipsy, his body feeling heavy and slow. that’s probably why he doesn’t notice the curious eyes from strangers and familiar faces passing him by. instead he digs his phone out of his pocket and settles in to order a few drinks and play a few rounds of the newest mobile game he’s addicted to this month.

needless to say, he’s not expecting someone to sit down in the seat across from him. he feels his hackles rising and refuses to lift his eyes to look at who’s across from him, hoping they take the hint and leave him alone.
