Summary: Even the eldritch and unimaginable can take a moment to stop and care for their kin.
“Parenthood becomes you, dearest of the flock.”
The words dragged you up from the depths of sleep, spoken by a voice that filled your mind but not your ears. You were almost tempted to ignore it and drift off again, but the declaration was followed by soft, infantile coos, and that left your once-steady heartbeat racing.
Tilting your head, your weary eyes snapped open, landing on the tall, robed figure by your bedside. Before him was your daughter, Rachel, held up not by his own clawed hands but a slew of pink, translucent tentacles, manifesting from small rifts in the air. The sight would have been the stuff of horror had you not been, much to your quiet shame, already intimately familiar with the beast.
“Thank you, Lord Hastur,” you replied, voice quiet and airy from sleep. Your gaze shifted from the god holding your child to the babe herself, watching intently as she made a grab for a tentacle holding a rattle above her head. He shook it gently, and she laughed. “...I could say the same about you, as well. You’re… gentle with her.”
Hastur, who’d thus far not turned to face you, let out a soft chuckle, which appeared to be coming both from within his yellow robes and all around you. Discerning anything about his more physical form was a Herculean task even at the best of times, and this was no exception.
“I am only ensuring my kin grows strong and healthy,” he responded as he handed Rachel the noisy toy, allowing her to nibble and drool on it. The eyes visible to you, which peeked out from all manner of holes along his attire where eyes should definitely not be, scrunched softly.
“Still,” you continued, more to fill the quiet than anything else. “I wasn’t expecting it. You’re normally so distant with humans.” As you spoke, you pulled yourself up into a sitting position, adjusting the blanket so it covered your back and head from behind. The act made you feel silly, and perhaps you looked silly as well, but it was comforting.
“Ah, but she is no ordinary mortal. In time, she will grow, faster than any human possibly could, and inherit the truth of the universe. She will not be brought to madness from it.”
You weren’t sure whether those words were meant to soothe or disturb you, but in any case, your discomfort became apparent on your face, which Hastur was quick to acknowledge: “Why do you gaze at me as though I’ve spoken nonsense? Surely you didn’t think me the sort to feast upon my own flesh and blood.”
You did. You absolutely did. That’s what he was known for, but you knew him well enough to realize that verbalizing the truth would not please him. So, you opted to say nothing instead. If Hastur minded, he made no mention of it as he turned to you at last, allowing you to gaze into the eye-filled, crimson abyss that acted as his body.
“In any case, I am certainly better than that… “partner” of yours who once sullied you with his presence,” he said, moving to take a seat beside you. You let him, scooting to the side as he brought Rachel with him. She babbled happily.
His words, meanwhile, bounced around in your head, even after he’d spoken them. This was your first time, as far as you could recall, hearing him refer to your ex-husband as anything other than “worthless breeder”, or something equally derogatory; what motivated such disgust from a deity so distant, you weren’t sure.
“Truly, you could not have come to me sooner. You wasted too much of your short life allowing him to poison you.”
Your hand came up to your abdomen instinctively, bunching into the fabric of your clothes as phantom pains lingered, then disappeared as quickly as they came.
“It is no wonder that your body rejected his seed.”
“Hastur-”
A delicate cry broke through the tension.
From her father’s celestial hold, little Rachel began to wail, her tiny hands flailing. The sound had you immediately reaching for her, beckoning Hastur with outstretched arms and a pleading glance to hand her over. He did so without argument.
Once she was in your arms, you took the bottle you always kept by her cradle and offered it to her. Rachel quieted, staring at it for a moment, then began drinking slowly, her body relaxing soon after. You sighed with relief.
Hastur, all the while, watched closely with his too-many eyes, raising one of the tentacles that substituted a pair of legs to wrap around your waist. His arm -his real arm- came up around your shoulders.
“She bears my eyes,” he commented, breaking the silence.
The words ‘no, she doesn’t’ nearly passed your lips before you froze. Rachel blinked, and where there were once two soft irises that mirrored your own now lay countless, molten-orange eyes; they dotted all along her face, some even suspended beside her body, and each one was trained on you, soul-piercing and unmoving with their cat-like pupils.
Then she blinked again, and they were gone.
Only her little carbon copies of yours looked back at you.
You breathed deeply, only now realizing the emptiness of your lungs as Hastur squeezed your shoulder carefully.
“...and, of course, she bears your heart.”
His words snapped you out of your trance. “H-Huh?”
He motioned for you to give her to him, and you did, reluctantly, eyeing his sharp nails. His touch was cautious as he cradled her against his chest, mindful of his strength as he squeezed, ever so gently, the left side of her ribs. Rachel pulled the bottle away from her mouth to giggle and coo, her little leg kicking with delight.
“It is small and delicate, as are all things human, but… it sustains unimaginable power. She will grow to be strong.”
You sighed, allowing your head to droop onto his shoulder; it was neither soft nor hard, simply there, as he always was.
“I hope…” You began, swallowing down your unease as your mouth suddenly grew dry. “I hope she grows up to be happy.”
Hastur pondered this for a moment, and an odd flutter of wind sounded, which might have been a scoff had the noise been made by a human. “Of course she will,” he replied, as though the very notion of otherwise was an affront to his divinity. “She will know only contentment.”
That promise, though spoken with mild disdain, was enough to ease your wary soul for the time being and allow you to drift off once more. In the silence that followed, when Hastur was certain you were truly asleep, he added quietly, “...as will you, for the rest of your mortal days, and each moment after.”

Bro's trailer is all kinds of squeamish tbh. From reliving one's childhood fear of the dentist to tentacle horrors of the swamp.
This is just a quick blurb of a post since I'm still up when they dropped the trailer and I found it quite intriguing and felt the need to ramble a bit. Don't expect anything groundbreaking though.
This was the main reason I wanted to even post anything because this MAN IS ALWAYS AT THE SCENE OF THE CRIME (my God...)
Just some I can think of off the top of my head. Orpheus should get into the business of hand modelling at this point. His distinct scar could be sold as a "charm" point.
Very interesting that Finsen is connected to Leo (and yes, I refuse to shorten his name to "Fin" as some might cause that is reserved for Florian and Florian only (ugh, why did NetEase/Joker Studio do this?)). Apparently it was Finsen who gave Orpheus the "body" of Leo who was thought dead after setting fire to his own factory for Emma's sake.
This kinda makes Finsen more suspicious in the fact that at Sacred Heart Hospital (the map he is tied to), people grew suspicious of the amount of patients being discharged despite the records showing this was inconsistent with the reality if said patients apparently going missing.
It reached a boiling point when another patient disappeared and there was said to be a dentist that dragged a lot of garbage to the swamp at night. An angry mob confronted said dentist who was dismissive of such accusations which led to them throwing him into the swamp where he died.
If you didn't know Leo was admitted into Sacred Heart Hospital right after the Arms Factory fire and stayed there until he was taken to Oletus for his manor game. But the people there were immensely shady, I mean, look what happened to him.
Anyways, this post is supposed to be about Finsen so I won't digress too much. It's just great we finally get another character that has been teased and hinted at in the lore for years now. For instance, the game mode, Hide and Seek, which came out about 3 years ago hinted at his story in the game's description. I find that very cool and makes me wonder what other lore easter eggs are staring at us in the face (ayy happy belated Easter to those who celebrated btw).
And apparently, Finsen may be tied to also Dream Witch as some theories suggest she was the one to revive him from the dead. Others think Finsen is the "Doctor of Death" mentioned in Emily's 2025 and 2026 birthday letters. You can go read and judge for yourself.
He definitely was more than likely the inspiration for one of Orpheus' novels especially now with his trailer out we can see in the scene above with Hell Ember's mask that there's a box that says Ascelpios (Greek for the god of medicine and healing).
Finsen seen here looking normal and surrounded by children (voices of adults sling insults at him in the background)
Not gonna lie, he reminds me of Peddler a bit as he also seems to have a protective feeling towards children (which probably became terribly twisted in a way). This is basically confirmed in the description they dropped with the trailer:
The Japanese IDV Twitter always puts a lil more detail in their descriptions.
And it does seem like his feelings towards children were rooted in his own childhood experiences. Evidentially, he suffered from some visible ailment that made him the target of derision and bullying from his peers. It started after his first tooth came out and ever since his "body has been lying." Lying...as in telling lies (I honestly thought he meant lying down or something lol)
I don't know what he means by that but looking at him above also reminds me of Arthur Byers a Game 6 participant (with Fiona, Luchino, Grace, and Yidhra) who was used as a sacrifice by the Lakeside Villages when he was visiting the village with family as a child. He was thankfully saved and found but in a disturbing state of mind.
Poor kid but also really disturbing stuff. What exactly happened to him?
Oddly, Arthur just seemed to recover on his own one day and it seemed that was that. He grew up normally enough and even became a writer publishing a book based on his trip to Lakeside Village. He also apparently tried to get into politics before he disappeared off to the manor.
Arthur is very closely tied to Hastur as many details about Hastur's lore point to Arthur possibly being an identity switch for the hunter in the future. Regardless, I am absolutely fascinated by Arthur's story and really do hope he becomes playable in the near future.
But putting Arthur aside, and going back to Finsen, you can see the connections, right?
Another point to note before finishing this post off is that Finsen mentions the reason he gave Leo to Orpheus in the first place was in order to find himself. Yet, after he saw a bullied child bite his bully, Finsen found an answer and "swore to protect this belated sensation."
So again, it's for the children, I guess. But of course, there's more to it than that. Guess we'll have to see what's in store when we get more lore...
