                             — He should be worried, or at least a little scared. He knows the Doctor now, better than the Cyberiad did. While he wasn’t able to fill in the hole that the Doctor left to the Cyberiad, that knowledge was given to Clever himself anywho. So it wasn’t too strange that the Cyber Planner froze as he looked at the other, looking him up and down. A past Regeneration, right in front of him. Oh he was going to tear the TARDIS apart whenever he got the chance for this. Standing up straight, and smiling, he did what he did best- be clever.

                             — Be a clever, prideful arse is more like it.

Oh. Oh, she knew that voice. That voice was not-- welcome here. She shoved herself up, peaking out of her little room off to the side and looking towards the console; where her PAST SELF moved. She stared at him for a long moment; the question he asked burning into her mind, before she ran up, stopping only a few metres away from him.

“Y’can’t be here! Y’really, really can’t be here.” She stole a glance to the console; eyes scanning over it with faint concern for her TARDIS, before she looked back towards the man. Her past self. 

But there was something more than that. Not sure how far ahead I travelled this time. The way he completely seemed disengaged with the threat of a paradox looming over them. If it was an emergency, he wouldn’t be acting that calm, right?

She was breathing, and that was something, although she was finding it just a little bit harder than it had any right to be. She coughed shallowly, blood dripping down her chin. Oh. Really ... really not ideal. I don’t want to regenerate yet. She’d barely begun to get to know this form. Her first time as a woman! Although she wouldn’t miss the sexism ... 

having no idea who he was, the box that he was leaning on was a given. Clara could only wonder if he was a recent face, or an old one - even after seeing all the doctor’s faces she sometimes struggled to remember the ones she did see before. scared of the reason why he could be there, she slowly made her way towards the male, offering a wary smile.

there was something within him. a disappointment, yet an excitement. an opportunity, yet a fear. the master would never accept help from the doctor without something in return - ironically enough. his pride was just too important, especially when it came to the oh i’m so clever doctor. but there was something in his gaze, that if the doctor looked hard enough, could be recognised as a longing. for what exactly? not even the master knew.

“no.” the word was horse, barely above a whisper. but yet full of conviction all the same.

“You have that look in your eye. It doesn’t suit me at all.”

For once, his passing comment had not been uttered out of criticism or annoyance. Rather, genuine concern was evident in his tone. Encountering enough of one’s successors, as frustrating as it tended to be, did have its benefits. Namely, the ability to deduce when all was well, and when it really, truly, wasn’t.

In this circumstance, he suspected that the latter was very much the case, and as much as this particular model possessed a talent for irking him time and time again, he wasn’t heartless enough to ignore a potential moment of crisis when it presented itself.

“Normally you’d be stumbling into trouble by this point. Penny for your thoughts?”

“There’s my pretty boy. Any chance I can steal you for a trip?”

“Doctor, Doctor, Doctor. Guess what?”
