Idi aappa (idi appa, idiyappam, string hoppers), a traditional food in Southern India and Sri Lanka. They're disks of steamed noodles made of rice flour. The noodles can be made with both red or white rice flour, or in a 1:1 ratio of rice flour and wheat flour or kurakkan flour. It is eaten with a lot of different curries, sambols and a kiri hodi (which is a kind of gravy made of coconut milk and spices).
It is my favourite food. But it is an absolute bitch to make as it takes forever and you need to make many dishes to eat with it. In Sri Lanka it is a popular breakfast dish.
For a recipe, see here. Though that recipe uses roasted rice flour, I personally prefer using unroasted rice flour, because I find the taste of roasted flour too overpowering.
