Ryu and Narin's first real kiss that means something happens on their home island. During a break from touring and performing and recording, Narin takes Skyline home to the island for vacation while he visits Annop and his boyfriend. The rest of the brothers are supposed to be there the next week, but for this week it's just Annop, his boyfriend, Narin, Ryu and the rest of Skyline. While they have their own places to stay, having combined finances to buy a house next to Annop's to stay in when visiting, especially when Annop is there, they spend more time at Annop's place. Narin sends them all out onto the pier to play in the sea while he catches up with his brother and 'brother-in-law'. The topic turns as it often does when Narin gets a wistful look watching the others, to Ryu and how obviously in love with him Narin is. Narin refuses to acknowledge that. He doesn't fall for anyone, not anymore. He wouldn't survive it a second time. Annop frowns at him, until Narin repeats, what sounds to Annop's boyfriend like a mantra they've said a hundred times. that X(currently unnamed) and Y(currently unnamed) are dead and the others too scared to ever come near them. Annop tells him he needs to remember that and more importantly, Ryu is not X. Ryu would never do what X had done. Narin shouldn't let X ruin such a good thing when he's not even alive anymore. Narin is in love with a good man and it's obvious to everyone who gets to see them outside of their public roles.
Narin denies it, then stops the denials and goes with the 'even if' defense. Look at their career, and how he's perceived and how Ryu is and it just couldn't work. Annop points out that not only is Narin's cute reputation not the same as Ko's due to his more flirty personality which has resulted in lots of ships, but also he's a bl drama actor now, sure he's only done a couple things with acting. But he's kissing guys on the screen now, including Ryu. They've acted together already. The fans won't revolt at the idea of him having a boyfriend. Even the ones who don't ship Narin with Ryu will eventually understand. It'll be fine. Annop's boyfriend points out that they could explain it with their story. He may not know all the details but from what he does know, it's a slowly building relationship based on years of trust and care, both publically with their acting and music careers, and their private friendship behind the scenes that the public didn't get to see, that helped both of them. That kind of thing is a story an audience will eat up. They can give a few details of how it all happened and why and explain how long it took them and it'll smooth things out. And everything he can see says Ryu is into Narin too. Narin goes quiet and runs out to play with the others. But that night after they started to party and drink and the others were sufficiently distracted, they notice that Ryu isn't around and notice Narin slipping away too. So they quietly follow, just to see.
Narin wanders to look for Ryu only to find him at the edge of the dock, sitting and staring at the stars. "You can't see the stars like this in the city." He sits next to Ryu for a long, quiet moment, barely space for both their hands to be side by side between them. Then he slowly, hesitantly, moves his hand to cover Ryu's.
Ryu doesn't turn, doesn't acknowledge it. Though he feels the shift. There are no fans, no cameras, they're both barely tipsy. They don't have to get into character or blow off steam. This is a real moment between them. His only acknowledgement is to turn his hand so he can hold Narin's. They stay like that, staring at the stars until Narin carefully leans to rest his head against Ryu's shoulder.
Ryu gathers all his courage. Narin's laid on him, rested against him, slept on him or with him before in their years they've known each other. So even though he feels the difference here, it's still frightening to take a familiar moment into new territory. It's a risk, a gamble, but he takes it all the same.
He reaches around to gently place a hand on Narin's cheek, turning his head to Ryu and kisses him, just once, softly, not the heated kisses shared in dark hotel rooms after too much stress or alcohol or nightmares where they take comfort in each other. But one he pours all the love and devotion and care into. As they separate, he brushes Narin's hair back, staring at him with a fond look, kisses his forehead and returns to staring at the stars as he wraps an arm around Narin, holding him close to his side instead of just holding his hand. Narin curls into him, fitting close like he's always belonged there. Maybe he had.
