ICONS: The Assembled Edition has elegant mechanics for comic book tabletop roleplaying game fistfights and brawls. I give some comic examples of excellent fighters for comparison. The game emulates this type of character so very well.
Years serving as a prison psychiatrist in a maximum security facility for metahuman offenders finally got to Lana. Now she sells her abilities to the highest bidder as Dr Fear. Welcome to Mega Powered March! with ICONS RPG.
I'm looking to build a dark hero series without it getting too garish. Things are grim in the city. Politicians and business leaders are corrupt. The cops are overworked or in on the take. The newly elected mayor calls for a team of freshly minted superheroes to come in and save the day.
Ask The Old Guy: Why Superhero Games?
ICONS superhero RPG is still one of my favorite games of all time. Imagine the DC Animated Universe come to life. Or as simpler way to run the Marvel Cinematic Universe off screen. Good times. Good time to, ya know, hero up. Heh heh. Game on.
Tim Wayne from Drake U asks, “What is your fascination with ICONS RPG?” [Disclaimer: Any semblance to persons living or deceased are completely unintentional.] There are two levels to this answer. The first is why we play superhero TTRPGs at all, and the second is why I personally prefer ICONS RPG. I’ve stuck with ICONS for almost two decades already. #RPG aDay2024 August 5th
#RPGaDay2024 continues with ICONS, a very well written game from Steve Kenson.
RPG with great writing: ICONS: Assembled Edition by Steve Kenson. I love ICONS. It kept me sane during some pretty insane years. Even if I was just making characters, designing villainous organizations, plotting the invasion of Earth from other dimensions, or coming up with whole campaigns, it was something RPG to occupy my mind. Only a handful of games have ever achieved that level of my focus.…
A Supervillain Is Born.
Working on a villain concept for ICONS RPG. This is sort of a rough sketch in writing.
This is a pencil sketch in writing. This is a little more than the bare bones concept and the start of a supervillain. A lot of bad guys for superhero games are born in my notes this way. There will be more to come as I fill in the details. My kids have been watching a lot of the Miraculous: Adventures of Ladybug and Cat Noir cartoon again as of late. Not that I’m much of a fan, but I do like a…

Mega March Day 3: Secret Identities.
Talking about superhero secret identities. We needed a break from all the pesky industry stuff.
Some TTRPG superheroes wish to keep their alter ego a secret. There is a lot to be gained by having a secret identity as a superhero. The main advantage is not having the public, reporters, fans, and supervillains alike all up in your business 24/7. It’s also good for protecting family from all of the aforementioned onlookers. Plus, it might prevent other heroes from assuming the character is…
