The first time I ever saw a house centipede was when I was living in Hamilton, and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. HOWEVER, I have since learned that (a) they're very, very territorial, so it's incredibly unlikely that you will ever have more than one or two in your house/apartment at a time; and, (b) they kill and eat literally everything. So if you don't like bugs, they're handy. (I still kill them on sight, mind you, but I like that they're out there killing spiders for me.)
