Almost Midnight Rainbow Rowell

It’s been months since i’ve picked up a book and read more than 5 pages now. I missed it, but at the same time there were a lot of things going on that i just couldn’t. A lot of things went on in my head, and around me. So when finally I found myself at my favorite bookstore, and I saw this, I couldn’t wait three days for the 20% sale and just bought it. 

I knew Rainbow Rowell had written these short stories, but I didn’t expect to see them that day. After i’ve finished it in only one night (there were after all, just short stories and quick to read) I realized how fascinating it is to read one, or two in this case. How you can put so much story in, how you can include so many details, but don’t because it’s supposed to be a short one. How you, the reader, is pushed to read between the lines, and imagine so many possibilities on how the story would progress, as when you have finished reading, you’ll realize that it’s just the beginning of their stories. I realize now that, i love these just as much as I love novels. 

The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak By Brian Katcher

After so many months I've finally finished it!! Work has been piling up and I just had the chance to finish it while waiting for my sister to get her license renewed. Anyway, it's nearly the end of the year and yes, I hadn't reached my Goodreads goal.

Anyway... The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak.

As a self-declared fan girl, the book has raised my curiosity as to how it would portray modern fandom and how the author, Brian Katcher, would apply these fandoms into his novel. And then aside from that, I was curious as to what would the plot be.

What more could I tell (without spoiling the story)? It reminds me of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. Majority of the story happened in just one night. The book is slightly thick for a simple plot, but it won't have that Nick and Nora effect if it weren't and it would simply fail. It didn't have too much of the fandom references as it initially had around the start of it and only stuck to what it initially mentioned (Star Wars, Star Trek, Hunger Games, your zombies, and vampires). And I think I'd prefer it that way. Putting too much would separate itself from other curious readers since the book caters to a specific audience.

I like the fact that Ana and Zak were unintentionally exploring the con, as we as people get curious to know the reaction a person would have when he or she is put in a certain scenario, or in an event that interests you. Would they get the same reaction as you and be excited? Or are they just going to be bored? In Ana's case, what would be her reaction to the world she hasn't been into before? In Zak's case, how will he improve as a character since he's already the 'interesting character' of the two (in my opinion)?

Though the drug part I think was super off and I think the Viking dude could have been the better boss villain because he had a backstory with Zak. It's an attempt to have a climax that wasn't really necessary. I think keeping to that world would be interesting enough.

Maybe the side characters could have been an interesting side story, like when Zak told the story to Ana about Gypsy, how she was all over him and flirting with him during the con, but ignored him when he saw her at the movies. How these different people at the con could be different people in the real world. Another instance is when Warren revealed himself without a mask, and Zak didn't even recognize him instantly even though they've known each other for a long time now. How Strawberry shifts from talking cutesy to swearing. I think this is the main point of the story, that there is another story behind a story. How Zak is with his stepdad and his real dad, and how Ana and Clayton are with their parents. I realized while I was writing this that I hoped I have known the side characters more too because Zak made them interesting for me to know them too. What's their story? I don't know, maybe the book would be more serious though if it's like that, but... well I'm just laying out my thoughts.

Yeah, if you're into Nick and Norah but instead of music, you're into comic cons and fandoms, give it a try.

Generation One by Pittacus Lore

Seriously... what is this year?? I've only read a couple of books?? I'm so sorry about this!! I've lost a lot of time but it's not all wasted; I've been doing a lot of things aside from reading! But surely i'll make up for it!! I've just finished Generation One by Pittacus Lore and here are my thoughts!!

When news of another I Am Number Four came up, My excitement was over my head!! I was pumped for another action-packed series and still within the world of IANF! But the next minutes I felt the sudden gush of worry; worry that this might take a toll on the series. When is too much? I've been feeling like this on Harry Potter lately (and much to my heavy heart this had been giving me sadness 'cause HP was literally my childhood) and I don't want to feel like this on another series. I love them too much. I was happy how the Nicholas Flamel series has ended and I would very much like it to stay finished, though I have of coursed missed the characters. Now after seven main books and a couple more side stories, how much is enough for the IANF series?

I still can't tell it now though as I feel it's too early. Generation One has presented us with a whole new story line, with a couple of recurring characters, and a bunch of new ones with strong potentials of being the next main Gardes of the story. With new problems and a lot of questions hanging at the end, one cannot tell this early on if this next story is such a good idea. But I have this feeling that it is.

Generation One still has that thrill the first IANF books had, and I do hope the story line is as much as great as the first one too. With Setrakus Ra out of the picture, who will be the next main villain? I could imagine how this could lead to and focus on a more politically-inclined plot. But I really hope not, as having 'humans with Loric powers/aliens' should give the story much more options to go to. Aside from that, we have enough politics going on in real life already.

To summarize my review (or my thoughts rather), aside from the worried feeling this would ruin the series, I really really liked it so far! Really strong characters with big potential, a story line with wide possible paths, with all the action packed in a book! Go get a copy and read it now, it's not one to be missed!

Hector and the Secrets of Love I’ve finished the Happiness one, and I was waiting for the time/moment/opportunity/whatever to buy the Love one, but I wanted to buy the cover similar to what I got. So when I saw it, I instantly messaged!!!

The People of Sparks And I never even had the first book!!! But I did saw the movie of the first book, and heard the hype it got. So before I read this, I have to wait for the first book (of course with the similar cover)

One Day I wasn’t sure If I had this (and I though I already had it) but I don’t know... I still bought it. Wasn’t even sure if I read it. what i’m sure of is I NEED TO READ IT.

Nerve Saw the movie the day before I bought it. 

Naomy and Ely’s No Kiss List Because i’ve got my eyes on this for a long time now, and it’s a Levithan.

The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak Because It reminds me of Sheldon and Amy <3 Love through Science. Or so i’m thinking. HAVEN’T READ IT no SPOILS PLS.
