"đ¤ "I knew he couldn't keep you safe. Now I've gotta, because you're weak... just like him."
It had been a stupid mistake. A misstep and easy fall that had knocked her out cold. Honestly, she hadnât even had time to consider whether sheâd be alright or not. One moment, she was fine, and the next she was twenty feet down a steep decline and all went dark. Well, if pain let you know you were still alive, she was as alive as it got. Even through the blur that seemed to slow her brain down-- hello concussion, old friend-- she knew immediately that her left wrist was broken and something sharp had snarled the edge of her face.
Apparently, no matter what, everything just circled back on itself. Like a never ending nightmare. She should have left instead of lingered, but being alone for the first time in her life had made it difficult to make a decision about where to even go.
âI left, wasnât his fault.â She wanted to cough but didnât, speech slurred ever so slightly as her mind tried to bring itself back online. Back at square one. Except not. If Mary had kept her mouth shut so far. âWhere is everyone?â A few blinks as she tried to focus properly, frowning. Maybe her mother would see right through the little lie that was in the question and know that she knew about the pack thinking she was dead. And that would be-- bad. But everything hurt already, so she did it anyway. Just to see if she would lie to her too about why they werenât safe within the pack right now, or even guards.
