What were the best and worst parts of working on iahf
the worst: juggling over a hundred submittedĀ āstudentā applications lmao itās pretty clear who my faves were by the sequel ripĀ
(spoiler alert: i tended to favour the characters of people i interacted with more or who had character quirks that were relevant to plots i was working on)Ā
also like, figuring out plot arcs was both fun and not fun... the second semesters were always like the weakest? idk iām Annoyed by that looking back as well asgsdfĀ
the best parts were probably the research bits,,, itās how i got a 5 on my ap euro test that year. also out of sheer coincidence i guess??? i did a fuckton of research on the anglo-japanese alliance and the meiji restoration (and the diplomats involved in anglo-japanese relations at the time, namely ernest satow and hugh fraser) for this dumb fic (and for an actual paper for the concord review) so when it came time to write my meiji restoration au for @borntomakearthistoryzine i had to do like, barely any additional research RIP
This is going to sound really, really weird bc itās been like 84 years since I last touched these fics but Iāve gotten a lot of messages from people who for some reason or other put down their full names when submitting their characters to any of the Official Fanfiction University fics I wrote (the International Academy of Hetalia Fanfiction and probably also the Modern Baker Street Fanfiction Academy) and whoād like to have their names changed so that fanficās not like the first result that pops up when people google their names? So if thatās also you and you havenāt reached out to me yet, please let me know if you need a characterās name changed, tell me which chapters this happens in, and Iāll do it C:
oh no yeah! i just mean, you were pretty equal opportunity with ship fodder moments and ~implications~ and i think that was a nice touch that kind of highlights the original spirit of hetalia
ugh dammit, the ending made me emotional. it's so wild reading this after so many years not even thinking about hetalia and waking up my feelings for the characters, (even if i can't quite get into the national personification stuff because of the ~implications~ now that i've turned into a humorless leftist). i'm onto the sequel. sorry for like, journaling at you? idk, reading it makes me remember missing you. you were cool. you've always been cool.
btw you don't have to respond to these messages if you don't want to, it's probably weird or tiresome since i'm kind of emotion dumping at you. i don't know if you'd want to chat if i got off anon, i've been kind of a shit friend. i want to do better by people even though it's easier to hide and disappear and paste up masks and. i still admire you.
haha i get it, itās okay. thank you for reading my old-ass stuff lolol :ā) i appreciate you feelingsdumping at me!
iahf anon again, i forgot to say before but kudos for being so, i guess diplomatic when it came to ships instead of going the stodgy hardass traditional ofu route of only entertaining canon ships and mocking people Just for shipping other things
well, hetalia canon wasnāt necessarily conducive to forcing set pairings tbh so i wasnāt really into that,,,, that and also because my otp asakiku (...surprise?) was relatively small compared to the bigger ships out there (usuk, fruk, etc)Ā
(fun fact bled has a very ignominious backstory from my hetalia rp days when my friends and i did an alice of human sacrifice au,,, which was actually referenced kinda in the trimester 3 maze section actually? anYWAY we had arthur as kaito and kiku as meiko and they got together and thatās how red and blue made bled, purpleās annoying little sister)Ā

i'm rereading iahf for nostalgia since i was part of the old guard of students, and even though it's VERY 2011, and you kind of lost the plot in the crossover arc with so many things to juggle at once? it's still quite charming and reminds me of simpler times. we were all such weird fucking kids, and you were a champ for wrangling those weebs and the mess that is hetalia canon into something coherent. and i'm sorry personally for what a weird flake i was. anyway. til next time, miss winterwood~
b i g m o o d lolol honestly that fic taught me a lot about ensemble cast fics and how to plot arcs and stuff š it really is painfully 2011 though gkdfjfjfj
so here i am thinking, well now that i know whatās going on in a:tla i should check out karen dulayās ofua:tla because now iāll get the jokes, right?Ā
and holy shit she referenced iahf so many times that now i have gone back and reread iahf for nostalgiaās sake
and iām still laughing at lucas archās entire arc, how did i give that guy some of the best lines in the fic iām so mad
the fact that there exists a bled island on a bled lake in slovenia is making laugh really hard right now i think we know who really created bled
