Young people breathe life into Ron Paul's campaign
Emily Wisecup, 18, can’t help but be excited.
This is the first year she’ll be able to participate in the Iowa caucuses — an event she’s heard about for most of her life.
So when she found out a Ron Paul rally was being held Monday morning at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott Hotel, she convinced her parents to take a trip with her from their home in Earlham, Iowa.
Her father, Rod, said he’s participated in the caucuses a few times in the past and he doesn’t think enough people get involved. Wisecup said he and his wife encourage their daughter to be politically informed and active.
Not that Emily needs much encouraging.
“It’s really exciting,” she said with a smile. “This decision will affect the next four years.”
Emily is just one of many young people interested in what Paul has to say — a fact confirmed by the number of teenagers and people in their early twenties at the event.
So how does that affect how other people view Paul as a candidate?
“I think it really energizes his campaign,” Rod Wisecup said. “It’s exciting to be here.”
