I prefer directly asking them than just writing out the blue, because some people aren’t down for just having their work being spread out like that? Everyone’s different, but I always ask before I start writing it/ drawing it out, so at least if they don’t like it, I can just scrap it and move on.

Asking doesn’t hurt anyone. But I get shy asking people if I can just add on to their works (and sometimes, the things you add on doesn’t match up to their…agreements, per say? It’s hard to explain tbh). Usually, at this point, I just leave it be and try not to dwell on it so much.
