âWhat the hell is going on?â Â someone asked. Â There was some security agents rushing past the kitchen area. Phil and the team had decided to take some time to eat together after so long apart from each other. Â Both physically and mentally. Â It had been nice. Â Almost like a family dinner they all missed over the holidays. Â Daisy running away, and Coulson giving chase. Â Mace putting each of them in a different little section of wherever he sent them. Â Visits or even calls few and far between for all of them. Â This was something they all needed. Â Which made it all the harder to leave once it became clear something was up. Â
Coulson had exited first in a vain attempt to allow the others peace to eat. Â Not turning back to see who followed him, or if any did at all. Â The directorâs office wasnât too far away, it was a short walk. Â Tall, very large men had crowded around discussing something. Â Some kind of security breach. Â Phil tried to make his way past to speak to whoever was trying to contain the situation. Â
The agent had expected to see Mace. Â Perhaps with some kind of prisoner. Â A Watchdog? Â Hydra resurfacing? Â Some kind of new threat all in the middle of these robot attacks and demons and ghosts and who knows what other brand of insanity. Â
What he saw was a very upset looking, very tall, older looking gentleman.  His dark hair was clearly dyed to hide grays.  His age 30 years Coulsonâs senior yet appearing only a few apart.  Phil would blame SHIELD for that.  But this man, he knew this man.  His accent had gotten thicker in his years in France.  Where he wasnât sure, he never stayed in one place very long.  The man had raised  his voice to speak to the agents around him.  âI know heâs not dead.  They sent me here,â the man was finishing.  They didnât seem to buy his story.  Taking his presence as a massive security leak.  Disciplinary action was going to be swift for the team that allowed this civilian inside their base. Â
Handcuffs were being taken out as Phil finally spoke up, out of shock more than concern
âLuke?â
Everything falls silent.  Of course they hadnât believed the French manâs story of knowing agent Coulson.  Phil couldnât blame them.  He was a family friend, the family resemblance wasnât strong.  A family friend he doubts even Melinda knew of.  Lucas turned at his nickname.  Catching Philâs gaze with his own. Â
They stood there, watching each other awkwardly. Â It had been so long since they had seen each other. Â Lucas had helped care for his mother before he went off to college. Â Leaving only when he was sure they were secure on their own. Â He had spent Philâs entire life in one place and it had been far too long for him. Â His little nephew and his mother would need to be without him. Â
It lasted another 2 decades before he finally returned.  Finally called or kept in touch.  Phil didnât know what he should do.  Standing there, across the hall like it was the Atlantic Ocean.  Unable to reach him from so far away, or how to even see him.  â...Philip.âÂ
Coulson rushed to him. It was almost desperate, nearly shoving agents near him away as he embraced the man that damn near was a second father to him. Â A big brother. Â An older friend. Â He didnât know when he had come to the states, or even properly recall when last heâs spoken of him. Â
Lucas squeezed him up towards his chest, laughing.  Reaching to squish Philâs cheeks in his hands, pulling his face away  âMa chĂŠrie.  It has been so long!â he exclaims, reaching down to kiss him on lips with an exaggerated âmwahâ sound.  âItâs so good to see you.  And not even a little dead.â
