After many days of working on making designs for all the Ancients for my AU, I've finally made all of them. In between I've also worked on snippets of their lore and motivations, and also I've decided to give them the collective name of Deities - each one of them representing a twisted version of the element the original Ancients represent. Also, I'm not sure if I can call them cookies anymore. Mayhaps.
Anyway! Here's all of them! Hope you like them! I've tried being original with both their attributes as well as their color palettes, enjoy!
((Edit: I've made some slightly changes to Dark Cacao's design to not make it too similiar to his og design, also because I wanted silver to be something only attributed to White Lily's design))
Pure Vanilla - Deity of Madness
Everything, from the tip of his hat down the ragged mantle he hides himself within, to even the way he moves, speaks, stares, screams uncanny valley enough to send shivers down. He seemingly hides his true self under a more complex mask built more than false benevolence and honeyed words can allow. Not that it would matter much, as most of the mortals (and not) he finds interesting enough to allow entrance to his almost empty Kingdom, have completely lost themselves in the endless truths that the universe is built upon, and wanders mindlessly in a mockery of what could be called life. All in servitude of the Truthful Madness.
Plagued with an ever growing boredom and crippling loneliness after the departure of the one he considered his best friend, he spends most of his time scouting for interests he can amuse himself with, such as sharing intense truths not meant to be discovered; be it in reading poetry or in listening to debates, to even in witnessing life-changing events between space and time. Sometimes he sprinkles in some mischievous fun by letting mortals read snippets of his writing, which has the unfortunate effect of driving them to insanity, and watching as it all unfolds in magnificent entertainment. But even that can do so much when you're cursed with eternal life.
Covering himself how only he can, in his castle's great hall devoid of intelligent life, the lonely king sits on his crooked throne, watching the black suns dancing in the sky outside the window, as he does nothing but looking for a new learning experience. Tired of hearing echoes of a past long gone, friends long lost in themselves - scavenging in every interesting universe he can find - in the hopes of finding someone that can understand his desperation like no one else can. Perhaps all he needs is a jester.
White Lily - Deity of Guidance
She has long forgotten how it was used to be before. Wether she was happy or not, it does not matter now, those days are long gone. So much suffering has she endured until no longer could witness life being so carelessly used, by her own dearest friends no less, abandoning them seemed to be the only choice she had left. Hiding heself and her Garden in the deepest parts of the World, he now guides those who have suffered outrageous fates by the hand of all the cruel Gods dictating their once lives.
Roaming her once dead by grief, now fluorishing garden, Free Guidance welcomes any lost soul that aimlessly wanders between the river of life and death, only for her to accompany them to the Gates of promised Eather where they can finally find peace. She watches smiling as the gratitude in the spirits' eyes is plentiful reward for her actions. But sometimes, to her sorrow and hidden relief, souls would rather serve her cause than to be put to eternal rest, and reside in her garden as company and caretakers of her ever growing floral reign.
The loss of her esteemed friend was mended by time and the genuine loyalty of her followers, but deep down a great sense of anxiety keeps her from ever leaving her weapon behind, as she fears that one day, by any chance, she could be found and have all she had so tenderly built do be destroyed again. Fortunately enough, should that day come, she won't be alone to defend her freedom like before.
Hollyberry - Deity of Obsession
As an intense flame never stops burning within her own chest, Passionate Obession's dcree was of striving to be the best of the best to protect her own ideals of a world in which no one should abandon their own desires. And in order to do so, it is her duty of never letting her own subjects falling in the temptation of comfort, as to not taint their spirits. Dncing; fighting; cooking; gardening; even with something as calming as drawing, you can never be stuck in one place for too long. Her people will work themselves to the brink of exhaustion, driven by her external validation. What matters if a little piece of themselves breaks. Are they influenced by her sole presence to do so? Her feelings aren't suggestions but the very own law that is enforced upon her Wonderland, as an ever-unforgettable presence that captivates and compells.
If by any unfortunate chance you seem to not feel the flame of desire burning within yourself anymore, that means you didn't love it enough to keep trying. But don't you worry! There's always something to do within the Realm. Slacking off is not allowed, so a bit of rehabilitation is needed to reignite the burning fixation. What it means is unkown, but no matter what, everyone gets on track in the end, better than ever even. It is sovereignty of pure, unadultered emotion: Impulsivity is rewarded, carefulness is seen as weakness.
All is constructed like a carefully bilt house of cards, and any sign of dissent is a threat to make it fall in seconds. Despite the loyalty of her own peoppel, an ever feeling sensation of paranoia might affect her at times, as she can only see the world in black and white: either you're with her or against her. And she's not gonna have a problem in the world to chop off heads herself. Her emotional volatility can be as destructive as a storm. By her decree all white flowers must be painted to red. White flowers are prohibited to strive in her Kingdom, as they bring only but spiteful memories to her.
Dark Cacao - Deity of Order
It is said that those who are brave and curious enough to travel up at the very peak the Mountains at the Edge of the world have never been seen or heard from again. From how much of a cautionary tale it may be, nobody really knows what resides there, and several rumors have been created, to attract curiosity as well as discourage many to even think about climbing their way up. Truth is, what resides up there are the only entrance to the Citadel of Order, an impenetrable fortress-like Empire in another realm of existence.
O' warrior, hero, or simple man: must you find yourself before the Gates that spearates reality than divine soil, beware. To gain access to the Citadel, one must prove themself and their undying resolution in a set of brutal trials under the judjmental gaze of the Deity of Order. Once accepted, going back is impossible. Should you try to abandon the trials or cheat your way out, it will be the Resolute Order's duty to directly strike you down with his heavy Greatsword and cast your soul down the mountain to forever wander the world as an incorporeal spirit.
Should you succed against all odds, congratulations! It will be bestowed upon you the blessing of becoming one of the Resolute Order's newest subject and solider, wehter you like it or not, never allowed to leave your new home - not that you would want to anymore, as you no longer remember a life outside of eternal servitude - a loyal, resolute, unstoppable new cog in the ever growing organsism that is order.
Golden Cheese - Deity of Avarice
Should her eyes fall on something she finds interest in, it is doomed to be taken: be it riches or technology or entire populations. Her means of protection and generous sharing have turned into a justification for easier, excessive hoarding. The Golden queen wants it to be enough for everyone, wether she's gonna create it or make it. Her generosity is expressed into taking an ever growing amount of resources to ensure her followers' loyalty and comfort at the expense of the mortal world. Wether she realizes or not she's making life miserable to the mortals outside of her domain, it is unknown. If anything, she welcomes them in her Realm with open arms. They would never want to leave anyway.
Nobody knows how this Fever of Greed affected the Sands of Avarice, but as her realm grew, it was witnessed the moral failing of her kingdom: Abundant Avarice and her subjects found themselves stuck in an eternal symbiotic relationship where eternally they ask and she gives and she asks and they give- The more she gives the more they take and pretend. She can in turn break them, toy with them, kill them; would they feel it? Yes, but are uncaring as she would put them back together again and again, good as new. She scars herself for them and they scar themselves for her. Her greed has overtaken her, so much so it has manifested as golden tears running through all over her.
Such wants and needs have turned into periodic visits to the mortal world and taking everything from developed cities, from resources to people, leaving no signs life behind. People are infected into her Realm and lifestyle into a seemingly golden utopia, but the reality is they all are trapped within their own selfish desires.

Last night during a magma session, There Are Other Ways kept playing on loop. So let's combine two interests into one for funsies lol
I'd've done more designs w/ the cast but my hands are hurting from drawing all of this lol.
Anyways I am a Hermes Jax truther (or Hermax, or maybe Jaxes?) he's just too much of sass-a-frass menace to not be. He's a schemer, a liar, a drama seeker. What else is there to add on? But tbh he could do an Apollo too.
Ragatha as Circe (Ragace) because I say so, I need no elaboration there. Also because she'd be the type to do what Circe did to protect her nymphs let's be honest and sympathize with someone like Odysseus (Initially thought of putting her as Calypso, but HEEEELL naw i'm not doing my girl Ragatha like that).
Pomni as Aeolus (Aeomni) purely because of the fandom hc that Hermes and Aeolus are bffs. So, Jax and Pomni, Aeolus and Hermes. Plus Aeolus is cool and a good ally to Ody, make sense to be on buddy terms with Kinger too. (Bubble as the Winions (Wibble). That's all)
Do I also need to elaborate on why Kinger is Odysseus (Kingsseus?? Odinger??)? Absolutely not because the writing is on the wall for this one. Same with Queenie (Queenelope)
I'm on the fence on Ribbit and Kaufmo's roles but maybe I can swap them out for the other abstracted members of the circus or some of the known npcs,,,, mayhaps.
Gangle as Scylla (Scyngle, or Galla) because I thought the design for her in this would be fitting. It's pure vibes for Gangle only.
Caine would be Zeus probably. Zooble might be Athena?? Mayhaps. Coach Dictator is Poseidon, Calypso is either Loolilalu or Evil Ragatha. But that's all the brainfart I have for this lmao who knows if I might expand on this in the future??
Requested?: Technically, yes, just not on Tumblr. My friend saw the trailer and we collectively fell in love with Finn Bennett, why do all the best faces go to the insane targs (looking at you Ewan Mitchell)? Anyway, the blindness prompt was a randomised idea. I sometimes use a randomiser wheel of prompts to get my writing started.
Let it be known that Aerion 'Brightflame' Targaryen is not a kind man. Not even his closest relatives are spared from his cruel acts.
Any vulnerability is exploited in his wicked games.
Unfortunately, you find yourself with a grave vulnerability.
Having been born blind, the world is a constant exercise in caution.
Aerion, in particular, was a constant threat. One that you learned to navigate.
In some ways, you were lucky.
As a child, Aerion knew he couldn't hurt you too badly, you were his sister Daella's favourite Lady-In-Waiting. Selected herself at a young age. You'd grown up around the Targaryen princes and princesses.
Perhaps Aerion was somewhat human and didn't wish to harm someone he'd known for years. Mayhaps, he didn't wish to deal with the fallout of harming you (considering how he treated his brother, Egg, the latter was more likely).
He never said much in the early years, his cruelty was thoughtless, the kind that came easily to him. A shove, a cutting remark, a sharp laugh when you would trip or mistake one voice for another.
Age had sharpened him. He'd become a man with purpose which arguably made him all the more dangerous.
For a time, his barbs had grown more deliberate and caluclating.
The court often whispered of the way he targeted you, they never cared enough to notice how you learned to match him.
You answered softly when he raged, held your composure when he attempted to provoke you.
Perhaps, for anyone else this would've led to even greater viciousness from the prince. Though no one would even admit it to his face, barring his siblings on an off chance.
Over time, it appeared to unnerve him, how little his actions could provoke you.
There were rumours, of course.
That Aerion's interest in tormenting you had shifted into something else entirely.
You pretended not to hear them but even you couldn't ignore the strange quiet that fell over him sometimes when he entered a room, or the way his voice softened a fraction when he spoke some insulting nickname he'd made for you years ago.
The gardens of the Red Keep were never truly quiet.
Servants passed through with baskets of herbs and courtiers murmered between themselves.
You sat a stone bench with your embroidery project in your lap, somewhat struggling to figure out where to place the needle as you'd lost your place.
You were using one colour to create the base, usually another lady would be with you, guiding you and telling you what colours you should use to make the image 'make sense'.
You wanted to try do it on your own for once, you were good at differentiating objects with touch alone. You had to be.
Aerion's footsteps were unmistakable: quick, heavy, and with notable irritation.
"Still pretending at gentility?" He drawled when he reached you, standing just out of reach. The silken tone failed to hide the edge beneath it.
You smiled faintly, careful not appear as though you were mocking him. The last thing you needed was an enraged Aerion. "Some of us must, my prince. The rest of you make the court look savage."
His laughter was sharp and sudden, but no more than it was when he arrived.
"Careful there. I might prove your point."
"I don't think you will." You said simply.
The pause that followed told you he'd probably tilted his head, surprised at your certainty.
"You think I wouldn't?"
"I think you would, if you were particularly wroth that day," you said, folding your embroidery under your hands as to not look as though you were ignoring him. "I also think the King loathes scandal. And that you'd rather not be sent to Summerhall again for losing your temper."
Another silence.
Then the sound of him exhaling through his nose, half amusement, half annoyance. "You speak to freely to your Prince, my lady."
"I have since we were children, but I can change that if it truly annoys you." You replied.
You think he might've moved closer as the faint smell of him filled the air. He was certainly watching you, perhaps deciding on your punishment.
The moment stretched before a voice from behind broke it, a young knight spoke greeting the Prince appropriately before turning to you to deliver a message for the princess.
He greeted you politely, perhaps too politely. His hand grasped yours so that he could place the scroll directly into your hand.
You felt Aerion's mood change before he spoke.
"Do mind where you put your hands, Ser." Despite his calm words, you could feel the danger behind them and the glare that was no doubt being directed towards the knight. You heard the knight's breath catch.
"I - of course, my prince, I meant no discourtesy-"
"Then don't act as if she's yours to touch," Aerion said.
You reached out, fingers brushing the sleeve of his tunic. You wouldn't dare touch him without permission, that would be a step too far even for you.
"Aerion."
The single word appeared to be enough, the tension didn't bleed out of him like you'd read in some other book but he backed away from the knight and you realised the Prince had actually taken a few steps closer as if to place himself between the two of you.
The knight stammered an apology and left quickly.
Once gone, Aerion's voice dropped, low and mocking yet again though there was something else there. "You collect admirers like cats collect fleas."
You wouldn't claim the the incident wasn't your fault, it wouldn't change a thing. "Kindness can do that to people."
"Kindness," he repeated, as if it were a foreign word. "You shouldn't trust it."
"I don't," you said. "Not entirely."
He made another voice in his throat. "You've learned something at least."
You heard the scrape of his boots against the gravel as he began to pace, the faint rustle of his cloak following.
âTell me, little dove,â he said after a long silence, âdo you ever wonder how easily the world might swallow you whole if I stopped watching?â
You tilted your head. âYouâre saying you watch over me, my prince?â
He gave a low, humorless laugh. âDonât mistake interest for mercy.â
âI wouldnât dare.â
Something in your tone made him stop pacing. The air thickened again; you could feel the heat of him only a step away.
âYouâre bold when you canât even see what stands before you.â
âI see enough,â you murmured. âYou forget that Iâve known you longer than most. I know what you sound like when youâre about to burn everything down.â
That earned a genuine, startled breath - half amusement, half disbelief. âAnd what do I sound like now?â
You let the faintest smile curve your mouth once more. âContained. For now.â
Aerion was silent. Then, softer than before, âYou should go inside. The sunâs too harsh for delicate things.â
You rose, smoothing your skirts. âAs you wish, my prince.â
He made no move to help you find your bearings, only watched as you figured out which way the hall was.
His voice reached you when you were several steps awayâlow, almost thoughtful. âRemember what I said. The court will eat you alive if I ever tire of keeping its jaws shut.â
You paused but didnât turn back. âThen I suppose I must hope you never tire, Aerion.â
For a heartbeat, nothing. Then a soft, dangerous chuckle followed you down the path.
It's been literally years since I've written anything like this, and why is that it's anyways the crazy characters that make me wanna write?
I have no clue if Aerion here is in character, I've never read the novellas but I know he's basically the Joffery Baratheon of the Targaryens so trying to get the balance between him being genuinely cruel but also someone I can make a fanfic about is so difficult.
I imagine I'll write anything with Aerion in as him being out of character since I would need him to be somewhat likeable as a romance option.
If you wanna request anything I'm into HOTD, GOT, I'll do A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms as well 'cause I can already tell I'm gonna like it. I'll do a post about anything I'll write for and so on soon. So if you wanna help me out with a request just send one in.

Growing up in the Lanes was never easy. The air was always thick wit smog and desperation. But somehow, in the middle of all the grime, there were moments of lightâmoments that felt almost normal⊠sweet, even.
For Vi, those moments often came when she was with you.
You were the kind of person who seemed to radiate something soft, something pure, even in a place as unforgiving as here. You were always helping someoneâpatching up a scraped knee, sharing what little food you had, or offering a warm smile that could ease even the sharpest edges of the Lanesâ harsh reality. Vi, on the other hand, was tough as nails, like she always was. But when it came to you, that toughness often cracked, revealing a gentler side that few people ever got to see.
You met when you were both kids, barely old enough to understand the full weight of the world you were born into. Vi had just finished scrapping with a group of older kids who had tried to steal a loaf of bread from Powder. Her knuckles were bloody, and her lip was split, but she wore her bruises with pride as she swaggered down the street.
Then she saw youâsomeone small and delicate crouched beside a stray cat with a limp, gently wrapping its leg with a strip of cloth youâd torn from your own sleeve. Vi had stopped in her tracks, her usual bravado faltering as she watched you work with such careful concentration. She couldnât remember the last time sheâd seen anyone show that kind of⊠tenderness.
âHey,â she had said curiously, âwhatâre you doing?â
You looked up at her, your eyes wide and a little startled, but then you smiled. âHelping,â you said simply, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
From that moment on, Vi couldnât seem to stay away from you.
Sheâd show up wherever you were, always with some excuseâshe was just passing through, or she needed your help with something, or she was making sure no one was giving you trouble. In truth, she just liked being around you. You didnât flinch when she got into fights, didnât scold her for her temper or her stubbornness. Instead, you had this way of looking at her, like you could see past all of that to the person she really was. And Vi, who had always felt like she had to be tough to survive and protect her family, found herself wanting to be softer when she was with you.
The two of you became inseparable, spending your days exploring the winding alleys and hidden corners of the Lanes. Vi would teach you how to throw a punch, insisting that you needed to know how to defend yourself. Youâd laugh as she guided your fists, her hands warm and steady against yours, though she always ended up pulling her punches when it came to sparring.
âCanât risk messing up that pretty face of yours,â sheâd tease, though her voice would always carry a hint of something serious, like the idea of you getting hurt was unbearable to her.
âYouâre an idiot,â youâd say back.
And sheâd laugh, nudging you playfully against your shoulder, her all ears red as she looked at you, âBut Iâm your idiot.â
You, in turn, taught Vi the value of kindness, though you didnât do it with words. You did it with your actionsâwith the way youâd stop to help a stranger, even when you didnât have much to give, or the way youâd bandage up Viâs cuts and bruises after a fight, your touch so gentle it made her chest ache. Sheâd sit there, watching you work, and wonder how someone like you could exist in a place like this.
And it also helped that Powder adored you too.
Sheâd often tag along on your adventures with her wide-eyed curiosity. You had a way of making her feel seen, of treating her like she was just as capable and important as the rest of you, and that meant the world to her. Vi loved watching the two of you together, the way youâd laugh and tease each other, the way youâd patiently explain things to Powder when she didnât understand. It made Viâs dreams of a better life feel almost tangible, like maybe, just maybe, there was a chance for something more than survival.
And then there were the jobs⊠or whatever she could get from Ekko.
They were never easyârunning contraband, sneaking into places she had no business being. Vi loved the adrenaline of it, the thrill of a plan coming together, but there was always a part of her that thought about you while she was out there. Sheâd see somethingâa trinket, a piece of candy, a flower growing stubbornly in the cracks of the pavementâand sheâd think of you.
She started bringing things back for you, little gifts sheâd pretend didnât mean anything. The first time, it was a shiny button she found while breaking into a some storage room. It was small and completely useless, but it was the kind of thing she thought youâd like. She tossed it to you when she came back, trying to act casual.
âFound this,â she said, her voice gruff. âFigured you could use it for⊠I donât know, something.â
Youâd looked at her, a little confused at first, but when you smiled and said, âThanks, Vi,â she felt something warm settle in her chest.
After that, it became a habit.
Sheâd bring you scraps of fabric, little bits of wire and string, or a half-broken gadget Powder thought she could fix up for you. Once, she brought you a single daisy sheâd found growing in a crack on the edge of the Lanes. Sheâd nearly crushed it during the job, and when she handed it to you, she was so embarrassed she couldnât meet your eyes.
âItâs just a flower,â she mumbled, scratching the back of her neck. âDonât make a big deal out of it.â
But you always did. Vi would pretend it didnât matter, but her ears would turn red all over again, and sheâd fumble with excuses about why sheâd brought you something in the first place.
She didnât know how to say what she was feeling, didnât even fully understand it herself. All she knew was that you made the Lanes feel a little less bleak, a little less hopeless.
And as the years passed, the your relationship with Vi only grew stronger. There were always moments when the certain feelings between you became almost impossible to ignoreâlike the time you patched her up after a particularly nasty fight, your fingers lingering on her cheek as you wiped away the blood, telling her firmly to always be careful, as your eyes search hers. Or the time she caught you staring at her with that soft look in your eyes and she felt her cheeks flush, her confidence faltering as she looked away, muttering something about how you shouldnât look at her like that. Youâd raise an eyebrow in response, then just laugh softly.
But neither of you ever said anything outright. Instead, you found comfort in the smaller thingsâstolen glances, the way your hands would brush against each other as you walked side by side, the way Viâs walls would melt away when it was just the two of you.
You were more than just a friend. You were her safe place, her reminder that there was still good in the world, even in the darkest corners of the Lanes. And for you, she was your protector, your anchor, the person who made you feel like maybe you werenât as fragile as the world wanted you to believe.
But the Lanes always had a way of taking everything good and twisting it into something painful.
The night everything went to shit was the last time life in the Lanes felt even remotely bearable. It had been tense from the start. Vander was gone, taken by Silco, and Viâs face was set in that grim determination she always wore when she was trying to be strong for everyone else. You knew she was scared, no matter how much she tried to hide it.
You were in the back room of the Last Drop, pacing. Vi had told you to stay put, her voice sharper than usual, her gaze practically boring a hole through you.
âDonât follow us,â she said, her tone leaving no room for argument. âJust⊠stay here. Look after Powder, okay? I canât worry about you and her while weâre out there.â
You wanted to argue, to tell her you could help, that you werenât as fragile as she thought you were. But the look in her eyes stopped you. So, you nodded, biting back the words you wanted to say, and watched her leave with Mylo and Claggor.
Powder sat on the couch, knees pulled to her chest, clutching one of her gadgets like it was a lifeline. She kept glancing at the door like she was expecting Vi to come back at any moment, triumphant and unscathed.
But you both knew better.
The hours dragged on, the silence between you and Powder filled only with the occasional sound of glass breaking in the distance or the low hum of Zaunâs underbelly. You tried to keep your hands busy, cleaning up the room, organizing scraps of whatever was lying around. Anything to stop your mind from racing. Powder didnât really say much; she just watched you with wide, anxious eyes, her fingers fidgeting with the gears of her monkey bomb.
Eventually, exhaustion began to creep in. You figured you were working too much. You remembered Viâs words in your head, telling you that sheâs always careful, that sheâll always come back to you. And you tried to stay awake, tried to keep an eye on Powder like Vi had asked, but your body betrayed you.
Powder had been quiet the whole night, but as you drifted off, she glanced at you. She hated being left behind, hated the way Vi always told her to stay because she wasnât strong enough, wasnât capable enough. She wanted to prove herself, to show that she could help, that she could save them. And with you asleep, curled up in Viâs bed, she saw her chance. Quietly, Powder slipped off the couch, grabbing her monkey bomb and a bag of supplies. She hesitated for a moment, looking back at you. She didnât want to leave you, but she couldnât sit there and do nothing.
Not when Vi needed her.
She crept out of the room, careful not to make a sound, and disappeared into the shadows.
The first thing you noticed as you stirred was the faint, low rumble of something distant but violentâa sound that felt like it rattled through the very walls of the Last Drop. You blinked, eyes fluttering slowly as you pushed yourself up. The second explosion was sharper, louder, and your heart leaped in your chest. It was a sound that didnât belong to the Lanes.
Your eyes fluttered open, adjusting to the dim light of the room. Everything felt too still now, too quiet, except for the faint aftershock of what you had just heard. You rubbed at your face, trying to shake off the grogginess, and then you noticed itâbright, electric blue sparks flickering in the distance, visible through the small, grimy window. Your stomach dropped as a sense of dread washed over you. Your breaths came quicker now, shallow and uneven, as you sat up fully, scanning the room.
âPowder?â you called out softly, hoarse from sleep.
You looked around, the familiar clutter of the space offering no sign of her.
âPowder?â you called again, louder this time, but the silence that followed made your chest tighten.
You stumbled to your feet, nearly tripping over a discarded piece of scrap on the floor. Your eyes darted around the room, searching for any sign that she was still thereâa glimpse of her small frame huddled in the corner, the sound of her fidgeting with one of her gadgets.
But there was nothing.
The couch where sheâd been sitting earlier was empty, the blanket youâd draped over her crumpled and abandoned. The faint smell of oil and metal lingered in the air, but it was missing the warmth of her presence.
âNo, no, no,â you muttered under your breath, your mind racing as you pieced together what must have happened.
You remembered the way she had been clutching that monkey bomb earlier, the way her eyes had flickered with something desperate and restless.
She left.
Your knees nearly buckled as you made your way to the window, pressing your palms against the cold glass. The sparks of blue still flickered in the distance, bright against the dark, polluted haze of the Lanes. The explosions hadnât stopped, and now there were faint trails of smoke rising into the air.
âPowder,â you whispered, her name heavy on your tongue.
She had gone after Vi, you were sure of it. The thought hit you like a punch to the gut, leaving you breathless. She was out thereâyour sweet, fragile Powderâin the middle of whatever chaos was unfolding.
And Vi⊠Vi had told you both to stay behind.
Now, you were running as fast as you could.
And when you got there, everything was on fire.
Buildings were crumbling under the weight of the flames, black smoke billowing into the sky and choking the air around you. The heat was suffocating, stinging your eyes and making it hard to breathe. You stood there, frozen, your wide eyes scanning the devastation. The ground was stained with dark, wet streaks that gleamed in the firelightâblood. It was everywhere, smeared across the cobblestones, trailing through the debris, pooling in some places as if marking the spots where someone had fallen.
But there were no bodies.
No sign of Vi. No Mylo. No Claggor. No Powder. Just⊠nothing.
Your chest heaved as you tried to take it all in, your mind struggling to make sense of the chaos. The silence was deafening, broken only by the relentless crackle of flames and the occasional groan of a collapsing structure. You called out for them. You spent hours waiting, searching and trying.
But, there were no voices, no footsteps, no cries for help.
Just emptiness.
Nothing.
The days blurred into weeks, the weeks into months, and the months into years. Time moved forward, but you stayed stuck in the same momentâthe night everything fell apart. The fire, the blood on the streets, the faces of everyone you loved burned into your memory like scars you couldnât erase. It didnât matter how much time passed. You never stopped seeing them. Never stopped feeling the weight of their absence.
Life in the Undercity didnât wait for grief. It didnât give you the chance to sit still and process the ache in your chest or the emptiness that had swallowed your world whole. The streets you grew up on were darker now, quieter, yet somehow more dangerous. Shimmer twisted its way into every crack and corner, poisoning the air you breathed.
You still had Ekko. He stuck close, as much as he could, and you were grateful for him in ways you couldnât put into words. But even with him around, the loneliness lingered anyway.
Nights were the worst. The silence of your small, dimly lit room pressed down on you, and your mind replayed every memory of Vi, Powder, Mylo, and Claggor. Sometimes, you could almost hear their laughter echoing in the distance.
Almost.
You never stopped looking for her.
At first, it was constant. Every waking moment you scoured the streets, searching for any trace of her. You asked anyone who would listen if theyâd seen her, but no one had. Not a single person could tell you where she had gone or what had happened to her. Some said she was dead. Others said sheâd been taken topside, to Piltoverâs dungeons. You didnât know which was worse.
You looked for Powder, too. Sometimes, you felt like youâd seen traces of her somewhere, certain colors she liked, drawings on the wall⊠It was like she was there, but she wasnât⊠like she didnât want to be found.
And years passed, but the hope never left you. Not fully. Even when the streets seemed colder, even when Ekko begged you to stop putting yourself in danger, you kept searching. Youâd walk the streets at night, hood pulled tight over your head, hoping to catch a glimpse of her pink hair or hear her sharp voice in the crowd. Every time you saw a tall figure in the shadows, your heart would leap, only to sink seconds later when it wasnât her.
You wondered, sometimes, if she was looking for you too. If she was out there somewhere, wondering what had happened to you. If she missed you the way you missed her. Those thoughts were the only thing that kept you going on the hardest days.
The Undercity changed around you. The shimmer trade grew stronger, its effects spreading like a disease. People youâd known your whole life turned hollow, their eyes glassy, their voices slurred. Survival became harder with each passing day. But even as the world around you crumbled, you held onto the memory of Vi.
Her voice. Her laugh. The way she used to look at you when she thought you werenât paying attention, as if you were something more than just a friend. The way she used to bring you small, silly things from her jobsâhalf the time things she swore sheâd found by accident, even though you knew better.
You missed her so much it hurt.
Then, one night, Ekko came to visit you.
He had news about Powder.
Heâd seen her, he said. And it didnât make sense at first.
He sat across from you in the dim, flickering light of the small hideout youâd both retreated to. His voice was almost hesitant, but heavy with something you couldnât quite name. Regret? Anger? Grief? Maybe all three, twisted together in a way that made him seem older than he was, like the years had weighed heavier on him than they should have.
You were hunched over, elbows resting on your knees, your face buried in your hands. It had been another fruitless day, searching for a ghost you werenât sure even existed anymore. Your body ached, your head throbbed, and the emptiness in your chest felt like it might swallow you whole.
And then Ekko said itâhe said her name.
âPowder⊠sheâs not the same anymore.â
At first, you thought he meant something else. Maybe sheâd grown up like the rest of you, toughened by the streets and the weight of survival. Maybe heâd seen her, and she was angry, distant, bitter about the past. You couldâve handled that. You couldâve understood that.
But that wasnât what he meant.
âShe goes by Jinx now.â
You lifted your head slowly, confusion knitting your brow. âWhat are you talking about?â
Your voice was sharp, tinged with a nervous laugh that didnât quite land.
âPowder wouldnât call herself that. Thatâs not⊠thatâs not her.â
Ekkoâs gaze didnât waver. He leaned forward, resting his arms on his knees, âIt is her. Sheâs with Silco now.â
The words hit you like a blow to the chest. âNo,â you whispered, shaking your head. âShe wouldnâtâsheâd neverââ
âSheâs different, (Y/n).â His voice cracked, just barely, but enough to make you flinch. âSheâs not the kid we knew. Silco got in her head, twisted her up. Sheâs⊠dangerous now.â
You sat back, your body rigid, your mind spinning. This wasnât real. It couldnât be real. Powder was sweet, shy, maybe a little clumsy, but always full of love and hope. Powder adored you. Powder idolized Vi. Sheâd never turn into someone like⊠like that.
âWhere did you hear this?â you demanded, your voice low but trembling. âWho told you?â
âI saw her,â Ekko said flatly. âItâs her, (Y/n). Sheâs been running with Silcoâs people for years. Sheâs the one behind half the chaos in the Lanes right now. Youâve heard about the explosions, the heistsâthe people disappearing. Thatâs Jinx.â
He swallowed hard, his jaw tightening.
âThatâs Powder.â
You stared at him, the words refusing to sink in. It felt like someone had ripped the ground out from under you, leaving you floundering in freefall.
âYouâre wrong,â you said, your voice barely above a whisper. âPowder wouldnât⊠she wouldnât do that.â
âI wish I was wrong,â Ekko muttered, his voice thick with bitterness. âBut Iâm not. Sheâs gone. The Powder we knewâsheâs gone.â
âNo,â you snapped, anger rising to the surface as your chest tightened with panic. âSheâs not gone. Sheâs just⊠confused, or scared, or⊠something. She wouldnât justâŠâ
Ekkoâs face softened, but his eyes were filled with sadness. âI thought the same thing when I first saw her. I wanted to believe she could still come back, that maybe I could fix it. But sheâs too far gone. Silcoâs got his hooks right into her. Sheâs not the kid we grew up with anymore. SheâsâŠâ
He paused, the words catching in his throat.
âSheâs dangerous.â
You shook your head again, your hands trembling as you pressed them against your thighs. This wasnât real. It couldnât be. Powder was your friend, your family. She was bright and sweet and full of so much love. She wasnât⊠she wasnât a monster.
The thoughts clung to you every night. PowderâJinxâhad become someone unrecognizable, and you couldnât stop the questions from flooding your mind. What would Vi think if she knew? Would she be disappointed in you for not doing more, for not stopping Powder before it was too late? Would she think youâd failed her?
Vi. Her name echoed in your mind. You missed her in a way that was so all-encompassing it became a part of you. You missed the way she used to tease you, the way sheâd smirk like she had the world figured out, even when she didnât. You missed patching her up after a fight. You missed how sheâd smile at you, telling you that things to brighten your day. You missed everything.
It was only recently that you realized why the ache felt so sharp, so endless. You loved her. Youâd loved her for years, even if you hadnât admitted it to yourself until now. It was why you couldnât let her go, why no one else had ever been able to fill the void she left behind.
People had tried. There were a few who flirted with you, a few who asked you to dinner or drinks. But youâd always brushed them off, always found an excuse. None of them were her. None of them had her fire, her strength, the way she made you feel seen and safe all at once.
The years hadnât been kind to you, but youâd done your best to survive, to keep going even when it felt like the world was crumbling around you. Youâd thrown yourself into helping Ekko and the Firelights, finding purpose in their mission even when you felt lost.
You patched them up when they were injured, your hands steady as you cleaned wounds and wrapped bandages. You shared what little food you had, sometimes going without so they wouldnât have to. You became someone they could rely on, even if you didnât always feel strong yourself.
But that strength went away a couple months laterâthe day you saw her again. It was something you didnât prepare yourself for. You hadnât expected it at all.
The sunlight filtering through the cracks of the hideoutâs makeshift roof caught on the edges of your hair as you worked, pulling ripe fruits and vegetables from the small garden that the Firelights had nurtured in secret. The air was damp but fresh, filled with the earthy scent of soil and the faint hum of life. You liked working in the gardenâit gave you a moment of peace, a small break from the weight of everything outside.
When you were done, your hands were covered in dirt, and a bead of sweat traced its way down your temple. You wiped your brow with the back of your arm, sighing softly. A few of the others nodded at you in thanks as they carried the baskets of food away. You stayed behind, crouched by the water pump, scrubbing the grime from your hands and under your nails.
The cool water washed over your skin, and for a moment, you let yourself pause, closing your eyes as the sound of the stream drowned out your thoughts. But it didnât last long. The quiet never did.
Once you were cleaned up, you shook off the weariness and decided to find Ekko. Youâd been meaning to talk to him about somethingâor maybe you just wanted to hear a familiar voice. The hideout could feel suffocating at times, even though it was a sanctuary for many. Ekko had a way of cutting through it, reminding you that there was still something worth fighting for.
But as you made your way through the winding halls of the hideout, you stopped short, your breath catching in your throat.
In one of the side rooms, barely lit by the faint glow of sunlight filtering through the cracks, you saw them.
A girl with blue hair stood close to another figure, her delicate fingers brushing against the cheek of the person in front of her. You couldnât make out their faces at first, your mind taking an extra second to register what you were seeing. But then the pink hair caught the light, vibrant even in the dim room, and your chest tightened.
Vi.
Your Vi.
And she wasnât alone.
The blue-haired girl leaned in, her lips brushing against Viâs in a kiss so soft, so tender, that it felt like the air had been sucked out of the room. Vi didnât pull away, her hand resting gently on the girlâs waist, her shoulders relaxing in a way you hadnât seen in years.
You froze, rooted to the spot, your feet unwilling to carry you forwardâor away. Your mind raced, a thousand thoughts clamoring for attention, but none of them loud enough to break through the sudden ache in your chest.
She was here. She was alive. But she wasnât yours.
You didnât know whether to cry out, to step into the room and demand an explanation, or to turn and run before they could see you. You wanted to be happy that she was safe, but all you could feel was the slow, creeping weight of heartbreak as it settled over you.
Because in that moment, it was clearâVi wasnât yours to miss. Not anymore.
âYou have some explaining to do.â The words feel foreign on your tongue, but they spill out before you can stop them.
You stand at the threshold of Ekkoâs lab, chest heaving, heart racing in disbelief. The image of Vi with another womanâkissing her, holding herâflashes in your mind and itâs all too much.
Ekko stands abruptly, looking as startled as you feel. His eyes widen, and his hand instinctively scratches at the back of his neck, a nervous tick youâve known him to do since you were kids.
âIâI was gonna tell you today,â he stammers, voice cracking slightly as he fumbles for his words. âWe just got her last night⊠when we ambushed JinxâŠâ
Your breath catches, a knot of frustration and hurt tightening in your chest. âYou ambushed Jinx? And now youâre bringing Vi back in like this? Without telling me?â
The words come out harsher than you intend, but it doesnât matter right now. Your mind is spiraling.
Ekko holds up his hands, trying to calm you, his gaze softening. âI was going to tell you! I just⊠After everything with Jinx⊠I didnât know if she was someone I could trust yet.â
His words hit you like a slap, and for the first time since you walked in here, a part of you slows down. After everything that happened, Vi could very well be someone you couldnât trust. Someone who might have changed in ways you couldnât understand. It stings to admit, but the doubt starts to creep in. You know Ekkoâhis loyalty runs deep, but heâs also careful. He always has been. You take a step back, your fists uncurling as you exhale sharply.
You swallow your frustration and let the silence settle between you, the weight of his words pressing down on you. Can we trust her?
The question hangs in the air, unspoken but felt, before you finally speak it.
âSo⊠can we?â Your voice is quieter now, more hesitant. You want to hear reassurance, but youâre not sure if itâll come.
Ekko doesnât answer immediately. He exhales, a long, drawn-out sigh that betrays a weariness you hadnât noticed before. When he finally looks up at you, his gaze holds something you hadnât expectedâa tenderness, a vulnerability. His lips curl into a small, almost wistful smile, and for a moment, you wonder if heâs seeing something you canât.
âI think so,â he says softly, his voice quiet but steady. âI think we can.â
You sigh, blinking a few tears away.
âWhoâs that⊠that girl sheâs with?â You ask, your voice barely above a whisper, though your heart is pounding in your chest.
You keep your eyes on the floor, unwilling to meet Ekkoâs gaze, because the truth feels like it might crush you. The girl youâve loved for as long as you can remember, is with someone else now. And itâs hard to wrap your mind around it, let alone confront it head-on.
Ekkoâs silence stretches out for a moment, the room growing thick with the tension that neither of you knows how to ease. But then, slowly, his eyes soften, and you can hear the careful way he breathes in, like heâs about to tell you something heavy. His voice is gentle when he speaks, like heâs trying to cushion the blow without sugarcoating it.
âHer nameâs Caitlyn,â Ekko says, and thereâs a noticeable pause before he continues, as though heâs gathering his thoughts, picking out the right words. âSheâs⊠Sheâs an enforcer, butâŠsheâs different. I donât think sheâs on Silcoâs side.â
Your stomach tightens at the mention of Caitlynâs name, and you can feel a bitter knot in your throat. You finally glance up at Ekko, your eyes searching his face, desperate for any trace of what this means.
âAre theyâŠ?â
Ekko looks at you for a long, quiet moment, like heâs weighing your reaction against his own thoughts. He doesnât look at you with pity, though; thereâs no judgment in his gaze. Just understanding.
âI donât know,â he admits casually. âBut I think Viâs been through a lot. And Caitlyn⊠I donât know what they have, but I canât pretend I understand it. Iâm still trying to figure out where Vi stands with all of this⊠All I know is Vi wants her sister back.â
You canât look at Ekko anymore. The pain of it is too much, a heavy weight that presses down on you like the sky is collapsing. You back away, trying to swallow the lump in your throat, your hands trembling slightly.
âI thought⊠I thought sheâd come back for me, for us,â you say softly, almost to yourself. The bitterness in your voice is unmistakable.
Ekko doesnât say anything for a long moment, but you can feel his sympathy.
Finally, he speaks again, quieter, softer. âI donât think sheâs forgotten you. I think sheâs just trying to figure out everything for herself⊠Besides, she was⊠actually wondering if you were still around.â
âShe was?â Your voice is quieter than you intended, almost shaky as you try to grasp what he just said.
Ekko nods, though his face is filled with something close to guilt, like he knows how this news might break you. âYeah. She asked about you when she came in⊠said she didnât know what happened to you after⊠everything.â
You let out a shaky sigh, your chest tightening at his words.
âWhere has she been⊠all this time?â The question slips out quietly before you can stop it.
Ekko hesitates, his eyes softening as he looks at you. Thereâs a long pause before he finally answers, each word like a slow puncture to your heart. âStillwater.â
The name hits you like a punch to the gut. You freeze, unable to process at first, the words echoing in your mind, bouncing off the walls of your skull. Itâs a place that steals everything from you, even the will to remember who you were before. Your throat tightens, and for a moment, you canât breathe.
Vi⊠Vi was there?
The thought twists something deep inside you, like a sharp ache that spreads through your chest and down into your stomach. It felt impossible to imagine Viâyour Viâthere. The strong, fearless girl you grew up with, the one who fought for every scrap of life she could hold onto. The thought of her, trapped in that hellhole, stripped of the fire that had always burned in her⊠itâs unbearable.
âYou should⊠probably be talking to her about all of this.â
You freeze at Ekkoâs words, your heart pounding in your chest. The thought of speaking to her again, of standing face to face with her after all these years, makes your blood run cold. Your chest tightens, and suddenly, breathing feels like a chore.
âIâŠâ You try to speak, but the words get stuck in your throat.
What could you say to her? After all this time? The distance between you both feels impossibly wide now, like a canyon youâll never be able to cross. The thought of seeing her, of facing the reality of whatâs changed, of all the years that slipped through your fingersâit paralyzes you. You want to see her. You want to run to her and hold her, tell her everything youâve kept locked away for so long, but you canât shake the feeling that youâre not ready for that.
Your hands are shaking now, and you clutch at the edge of the table for support, your palms slick with sweat.
âI donât know if I can do that,â you say.
Your voice cracks under the weight of your own fear. The thought of facing Vi, of seeing her and realizing how much has changed, of feeling the space thatâs grown between you bothâit feels impossible.
Ekko watches you, his expression softening with understanding, but thereâs something else in his eyes, something unreadable.
âI get it,â he says quietly, taking a step closer to you, placing a hand on your shoulder. âYou donât have to rush into anything. I know youâve been carrying this around for a long time.â
But the truth is, you donât just carry the weight of all that time apartâyou carry the weight of your own fear. Fear that sheâll see you as a stranger. Fear that you wonât know how to talk to her anymore. Fear that everything that once felt so easy between you and Vi will have changed beyond recognition. The thought of her not loving you anymore, or of you not being able to love her the same way, makes your stomach churn.
You bite your lip, unable to finish the thought, as your mind races in a thousand different directions.
âDoes she know Iâm here?â
Ekkoâs gaze shifts, and for a moment, thereâs a hint of hesitation in his eyes. He looks like heâs struggling with something, something he doesnât want to say, but he knows he has to. He shifts on his feet, a sigh escaping him as he scratches the back of his neck again, the tension in his posture telling you more than his words ever could.
âI⊠I told her youâre around,â Ekko finally says, âNot here exactly, though. I wanted to warn you beforeâŠâ
Before everything changes.
But a knock at the door stills the air in the room. Itâs sharp, sudden, and it cuts through the heavy silence thatâs settled between you. You donât move at first and Ekko hesitates for a moment, then turns, just as the door creaks open.
And then, there she is.
You freeze, unable to breathe, unable to move as your eyes lock onto hers. Itâs like the whole world stops for a momentâyour heart, your thoughts, everything. Sheâs standing there, in the doorway, her eyes wide as they sweep over you. Itâs as if sheâs seeing you for the first time, like she canât quite believe youâre here. That youâre real.
Her gaze flickers across youâyour eyes, your face, the way youâve changed over the years. You can see the shock in her features, the way her breath catches for a split second before she can speak.
â(Y/n),â she whispers, her voice raw, as if the sound of your name in her mouth is a shock to her as much as it is to you.
Thereâs a long pause. Neither of you move, neither of you speak, as if neither of you knows how to start, what to say. Vi stands there, her eyes fixed on you, and you can see the wheels turning behind her expression. She doesnât look the same as the girl you once knew, but her eyesâthose blue eyesâare still the same, full of emotions you canât quite place.
Viâs eyes trail down your form, and you can see her struggling to hide the way her gaze softens as she takes in how youâve grown, how youâve changed. Youâre different nowâmore than just the girl she once knew in the Lanesâbut somehow, at the same time, youâre still the same person. The one who was always kind, always caring. The one who had a heart too big for the world they were in.
You watch as her eyes linger on you, not saying a word, just staring. A small breath escapes her lips, like sheâs struggling to hold back some emotion, some surge of feelings that are too heavy for her to put into words. She opens her mouth to speak, but then closes it again, like the words are stuck inside her.
âI, um⊠I have work to do, Ekko.â Your voice cracks, and you can feel the tears stinging at the back of your eyes.
You tear your gaze away from Vi, your heart pounding in your chest as if itâs trying to break free. The weight of everything, of all the lost time, of everything you thought you had buried, feels like itâs crashing down on you in waves.
You canât look at her anymore. Not like this. Not when everything in you is screaming to hold her, to ask her why she left, to beg her to stay. But you canât. Not yet. Not when the hurt is still so raw.
You turn quickly, brushing past Vi with a sharp movement, your steps frantic, but trying to remain composed. Your heart races in your chest as you feel the heat of her eyes on your back, but you donât look back. You canât. The moment you do, youâre afraid youâll break, and you canât afford to break now.
The door slams shut behind you, and you can hear the soft echo of your hurried footsteps fading as you walk away. You donât look up, donât let yourself feel the weight of the emptiness in the room, even though you know itâs all there.
But youâre not ready. Not yet.
Ekko watches the door for a moment, his gaze thoughtful and a little sad. He doesnât say anything, knowing that nothing he could say will ease the tension in the room.
Vi stands there, still frozen, her mind processing everything all at once. The way you walked out, the way you didnât look back, how quickly you shut yourself off. She swallows hard, as if trying to force her emotions to settle. But they donât. Theyâre all tangled up in her chest. She wants to go after you. She wants to explain.
â(Y/n)âŠâ Vi whispers the name, barely above a breath, as if saying it out loud will somehow make it real, bring back the girl she thought she had lost forever. âSheâs⊠grown.â
âWe all have.â
His eyes flicker to Vi, his expression unreadable. He takes a deep breath, trying to find the right words, but nothing feels quite right. He knows how this is going to landâknows itâs going to hurt, even though he wishes it didnât have to be this way.
âI think she saw you and Caitlyn,â he says quietly. âTogether, I mean.â
Viâs body stiffens at the mention of Caitlynâs name, her eyes snapping to Ekko in disbelief. The shock is instant, followed by a sharp pang of guilt that twists in her chest. Her mind races, trying to make sense of the situationâof the way you had looked at her, of how you had walked out without saying anything more, as if something between the two of you had shattered. And now this. She opens her mouth to speak, but the words get stuck, tangled in her throat.
Ekko slumps back in his chair, his fingers tapping restlessly against the worn surface of his desk. He doesnât know what to say to either of them. His gaze remains fixed on Vi, her posture still stiff, eyes distant.
âShe thinks youâre togetherâŠâ Ekko looks at Vi with curiosity. âAre you?â
Viâs heart stutters in her chest, and she looks away quickly, swallowing hard.
âNo,â she answers, almost too quickly. âNo, weâre not together.â
Her voice wavers slightly, the truth of her feelings suddenly coming to the surface, uninvited but undeniable. Caitlyn is kind and gentle, but itâs never been like that with her. She only met her this week. Vi doesnât know what it is, but itâs not loveânot like what sheâs felt, and still feels, for you.
The kiss was⊠a moment of comfort, of trying to hold onto something familiar in a world thatâs changed beyond recognition. It meant nothing. Or at least, it shouldnât have meant anything. But now, knowing that youâd seen it, knowing that it might hurt youâit stings. And it stings more than sheâs willing to admit.
Ekko watches her for a moment and sighs. He knows Vi well enough to see that flicker of something in her eyes, that far-off look, the hesitation thatâs always there when sheâs thinking about you.
âYou donât have to explain it to me,â he mutters, âBut you do need to talk to her.â
Vi nods slowly, her gaze moving toward the door again.
âYeah,â she says quietly, almost as if to herself. âI know. I just⊠I donât know what to say. Itâs been so long, Ekko.â
Ekko exhales sharply, leaning back in his chair. âShe looked for you, you know. She hasnât stopped. And sheâs been alone for a long time too, Vi. She deserves to hear it.â
Vi doesnât respond. The words hit her harder than sheâs willing to admit. She knows Ekkoâs right, but the fear of rejection still clings to her like a shadow. Sheâs afraid of what will happen if she faces you, afraid of seeing that disappointment in your eyes, hearing the anger in your voice. Afraid that even if she tries, it wonât be enough.
She takes a deep breath, feeling the weight of the moment settling in her chest.
âIâll go find her.â
The climb to the top of the tree feels longer than it should, but Vi knows sheâs stalling. Her hands grip the wooden edges tighter than they need to as she hauls herself up, each rung feeling like a step closer to a moment sheâs not sure sheâs ready for. Ekkoâs words still echo in her headâSheâs probably already up there, and needs the space, but⊠she deserves to hear from you.
And now, standing at the edge of the makeshift platform high above the Firelightsâ hideout, Vi spots you. Youâre sitting near the edge, your legs dangling over, one hand resting loosely on the ground for balance. The jukebox below hums softly, sending the faint notes of a melancholy tune drifting up through the cool night air. The lights of the community twinkle far beneath you, and the laughter and chatter of the people below seem like they belong to another world entirely.
Vi freezes for a moment, her breath catching in her throat. You havenât noticed her yet, and sheâs glad for it because it gives her time to take you in.
Itâs been years since sheâs seen you like thisâquiet, lost in your own world. Thereâs something familiar in the way you tilt your head as you gaze out at the lights below, something achingly reminiscent of the person she remembers from all those years ago. She canât help but wonder if youâre still the same in other ways, too. If you still laugh at dumb jokes, or hum to yourself when youâre deep in thought. If you still carry that kindness in your heart, despite everything the worldâs thrown at you.
But thereâs also something different, something that makes her chest ache. You look older. Wiser, maybe. More beautiful than she remembers, though she feels like thatâs impossible, because sheâs always thought you were the most beautiful thing sheâd ever seen.
God, youâre beautiful. The thought hits her so suddenly that it makes her chest ache. Itâs not just the way you look, though that alone would be enough to leave her speechless. Itâs everything about youâthe way you seem so untouchable and yet so heartbreakingly human all at once. She feels like a fool for standing here and staring, but for the life of her, she canât seem to look away.
And then thereâs the way the moonlight catches on your face, illuminating the faint shimmer of unshed tears in your eyes. Vi doesnât even need to see your expression to know what youâre feeling.
For a long moment, she just stands there, unsure of what to do or say. She wants to run to you, to pull you into her arms and tell you sheâs sorry, that sheâs here, that sheâs not going anywhere this time. But she knows itâs not that simple. Itâs never that simple.
Finally, she takes a hesitant step forward, her boots making a soft thud against the wooden planks. You stiffen slightly, your head turning just enough to catch her in your peripheral vision. You donât say anything, but the way your shoulders tense tells her youâve already guessed itâs her.
Vi hesitates again, her heart pounding in her chest as she moves to sit beside you. She doesnât get too close, leaving enough space between you that you wonât feel trapped, but close enough that she can see the way your fingers grip the edge of the platform like itâs the only thing keeping you grounded.
For a few seconds, the silence between you is unbearable. Vi glances at you from the corner of her eye, her mouth opening as if to speak, but the words donât come. Sheâs never been good at thisâtalking about feelings, finding the right thing to say.
But as she watches you, she knows she has to try.
âNice spot youâve got here,â she says, her voice softer than she intended. âItâs quiet⊠Beats the chaos down there.â
Itâs not much, and she knows it. She winces at how lame she sounds, but sheâs not sure she trusts herself to say anything more. Sheâs afraid if she does, itâll all come tumbling outâthe guilt, the regret, the years of wondering what couldâve been if she hadnât been taken, if sheâd fought harder, if sheâd found a way back sooner.
You donât respond right away, and she canât tell if itâs because youâre ignoring her or because you just donât know what to say either. She glances at you again, her eyes lingering on the curve of your jaw, the way your lashes cast faint shadows against your cheeks.
Youâre so close, but it feels like thereâs an entire world between you.
When you finally do speak, your voice is so soft, almost drowned out by the music drifting up from below. âItâs always been my place to think. To get away⊠I have Ekko to thank for it.â
Your words are simple, but they carry so much weight, and Vi feels the knot in her chest tighten. She wonders what youâve been thinking about up here all this time. If youâve been thinking about her. If youâve been wondering where sheâs been, what sheâs been doing, why she never came back.
âI can see why,â Vi says, trying to keep her tone light even though her heart is pounding. âItâs got a hell of a view.â
She means the lights, of course, the way they twinkle below like stars scattered across the ground. But as she says it, she realizes sheâs not looking at the lights at all. Sheâs looking at you.
You finally turn to look at her, and the look in your eyes nearly breaks her. Thereâs so much thereâpain, anger, sadnessâbut thereâs something else, too. Something softer. Something she doesnât think she deserves but hopes for anyway.
âI didnât think youâd come up here,â you say, your voice barely above a whisper.
Vi looks at you, her throat tight, and she wishes she had the courage to tell you the truth. That sheâs here because she couldnât stay away. That she misses you.
Instead, she just nods, her voice a little rough when she finally speaks. âI wasnât sure if youâd want me to.â
You look away again, your gaze returning to the lights below, and Vi knows she should say more, but sheâs afraid. Afraid of making things worse. Afraid of losing whatever small chance she might have left to fix things.
She looks at you softly, âHow have you been?â
You donât answer right away.
The silence lingers. Vi shifts slightly, her body aching to close the distance, to somehow make things right, but she doesnât move.
Then, itâs you who breaks the quiet after a short while, your voice soft and tentative, almost as if speaking too loudly might shatter the everything around you.
âItâs hard to think about you in prison,â you say, the words stumbling out of you before you can stop them.
Vi stiffens at the mention of it. Her chest tightens, as though sheâs been struck, but she doesnât look at you, doesnât dare.
âI know it mustâve been hard,â you continue, your gaze still locked on the flickering lights below. âBeing in there⊠for so long. I canât even imagine how it felt. It mustâve been⊠suffocating.â
Vi can hear the way you say it, that compassion in your voice that makes her want to crumble. Youâve always been so gentle, even when the world around you was anything but.
The memories are sharp, jagged shards of regret that pierce her chest whenever she lets herself think about it. The days in that cold, lonely cell feel like a lifetime ago, but the scarsâphysical and emotionalâare still fresh. The world had felt like a cruel, unyielding force back then. Every day in prison, every blow to her body, every quiet, restless night, had worn away the person she used to be. She couldnât even remember what it felt like to be carefree or loved.
âI was so⊠lost,â Vi mutters quietly, her voice rough from the weight of years. âI spent so long⊠thinking about all of you, of Powder⊠of the mistakes I made. If i had just⊠If I hadnât stepped away for one moment, maybe I wouldâve still been here⊠Here with PowderâŠ. Here with you.â
You glance at her then, just a flicker of movement, your eyes soft with something like pityâbut more than that, something else that Vi doesnât have the courage to name. She knows you see her now, not the image of the girl who left, but the one who came back. The one who is tryingâtrying, at leastânot to destroy everything around her with the weight of her mistakes.
Viâs voice breaks the silence again, this time with something raw in it, something almost painful. She shifts slightly, her hand twitching by her side, wanting to reach out but holding herself back.
âI couldnât stop thinking about you while I was in there,â she says quietly, her eyes searching your face for any sign of recognition. âThe thought of you⊠It helped get through most of my nights. I tried to dream of you... tried to imagine what you were doing, where you were⊠how youâve grown... how much prettier you probably got. I kept telling myself, âMaybe when I get out, maybe when I find a way out, Iâll find you again⊠and take you out on a real date.ââ
She stops, her gaze falling to the ground between you both as if ashamed to even say it aloud, as if admitting the depth of her thoughts all these years will somehow make them real. But itâs there, the longing sheâs buried in the back of her mind, too painful to confront but too strong to ignore.
Vi continues, quieter now, almost a whisper. âI wondered if you thought of me, if you looked for me. If you still cared⊠if I even mattered to you anymore.â
You stay silent as she speaks, your chest tight with something you canât explain. The words sting in a way youâre not prepared for, like a wound reopened, and yet thereâs something strangely soothing about them, too. The fact that Viâafter everything, after all this timeâhad thought of you⊠It almost doesnât seem real.
But you say nothing, your gaze fixed ahead, unable to meet her eyes. You wonder if itâs better this way. If silence is all you have left to offer her now. Maybe itâs easier to listen than to speak, to keep everything bottled up inside where it wonât spill over and make a mess of things.
Vi takes a deep breath, her eyes shifting between the two of you, silently asking for something, anything that might make her feel less alone in this moment. But you donât give her the answer sheâs hoping for.
For a long while, neither of you speaks. The wind brushes past you, making the leaves rustle in the trees around the hideout. Below is quiet, almost peaceful, and the sound of distant voices and music fades into the background.
Vi watches you carefully, her eyes searching for something in yours, but she doesnât push. She knows better than that. She knows that the years have changed you, just as much as theyâve changed her. She knows she canât expect you to just forget everything, to instantly trust her again. But she hopes, more than anything, that thereâs still something left between you both, something that could grow again.
âI saw you with her,â you say. âEkko said her name is Caitlyn.â
Viâs eyes widen at the mention of Caitlyn, her heart stopping for just a moment. The words seem to hang in the air between you both, heavy and charged. She opens her mouth to respond, but nothing comes out at first, as if the truth of its too much to swallow.
You feel her hesitation, the way she tenses, and it hits you in a way you werenât prepared for. It feels like a sharp, cold pang in your chest. Thereâs a rawness in your voice that you didnât even realize was there.
The way you say it feels like it cuts through the silence between you both. Vi looks at you then, eyes wide, searching, but she doesnât speak. She knows she owes you an answer, but what answer could she give you? How could she explain everything thatâs happened in the time between your separation and now?
After what feels like an eternity, Vi swallows hard, her throat tight. She looks away, her hands fidgeting at her sides.
âItâs not what you think,â she says softly, almost too quietly. âI⊠I didnât want it. She was just⊠trying to comfort me.â
Viâs mind drifts back to Caitlyn, and she canât help but sigh. She thinks Caitlynâs a good personâfor someone from topside. Thereâs a softness to her, a kindness that reminds Vi of the people she used to know back when things were simpler, when she wasnât caught between the rubble of the Lanes and the ghosts of her past. But despite Caitlynâs goodness, Vi knows one thing, something deep in her heart that she canât escape: no one could ever be you.
No one could replace you. The girl she grew up with, the girl she used to dream about, the girl who haunted her thoughts long after she had fallen asleep. Viâs chest tightens at the thought. The kiss with Caitlyn, the one you sawâitâs nothing more than a hollow moment, something that never shouldâve happened. She wanted it to be you.
Vi shudders slightly. The kiss, the way Caitlynâs lips felt against hers, it was nothing like the memories of you. Nothing like the way your hand used to fit in hers, how your laugh could fill a room with warmth, how you made her feel like she was worth something. Caitlyn could never make her feel the same way you made me feel, could never replace the way you made her feel alive, like everything in her life had a purpose.
âI couldnâtâŠâ Vi murmurs to herself quietly. âI couldnât feel that for anyone except you.â
Her hand slowly reaches out, her fingers trembling ever so slightly as they brush against yours. Her touch is gentle, careful, despite the roughness of her calloused palms, worn from years of fighting, of surviving. She holds your hand like sheâs afraid youâll slip away, like if she lets go, youâll disappear, and sheâll be left with nothing but the echoes of a time she can never get back.
Your eyes instinctively shift to your hands, the same hands you once held as children. You remember how easy it was, how natural it felt when you were younger, sitting side by side in the dirt or on the roof of the Last Drop, fingers intertwined like nothing could ever pull you apart. Back then, it felt like the world was small, and nothing could hurt you as long as you were together.
But nowânow, everything has changed.
Her fingers curl around yours, and the warmth of her touch sends a wave of memories flooding backâsoft laughter, secret glances, the way her eyes would linger on you when she thought you werenât looking. You blink, trying to keep the rush of emotions in check, but itâs hard when every inch of you feels like itâs trembling.
Viâs eyes flicker to the ground below for a moment, her cheeks suddenly flushed, the soft red hue creeping up to her ears. It was that same familiar blush thatâd show during the times sheâd gift you a tiny present from those adventurous jobs she was in. Sheâs so close now, you can hear her breath hitch slightly as if sheâs gathering the courage to speak words that sheâs kept locked away for far too long.
âIâve always loved you, you know,â she said finally. âI never got the chance to tell youâŠâ
The words tumble from her mouth, quiet and unsteady, but every one of them feels like itâs been etched into her soul for years. She looks up at you, the faint redness still coloring her face as she holds your hand.
âIâd really like to make for the time I lost with you.â
The noise from the jukebox below, faint music playing through the speakers, the distant chatter of the Firelightsâit all fades away, drowned out by the thundering silence between you both. You stare at her, your heart racing, a million thoughts running through your mind, but none of them can fully process the weight of what sheâs just said. You feel the tears burn at the back of your eyes, but you refuse to let them fall. You just stare at herâreally look at herâlike you havenât in years.
Viâs ears are bright red now, her gaze flicking away nervously. Sheâs never been good with things like this, always hiding behind her strength, her toughness.
And now, itâs all laid out in front of you.
Sheâs always loved you.
You swallow hard, your hand squeezing hers as you finally manage to find your voice, even though it feels as if itâs been taken from you for so long. Youâre not sure if you want to speak, if youâre ready to speak, but it doesnât matter.
A single tear slips down your cheek, catching in the moonlight that spills across the roof. You huff, your breath shaky, and quickly turn your head, trying to wipe it away before Vi can see.
But youâre not quick enough.
Viâs blue eyes are already on you, her gaze soft, understanding, and something deeper, something tender that makes your heart ache even more. She doesnât say anything at first, just watches you quietly, her thumb gently brushing over your knuckles as she holds your hand tighter.
The silence stretches between the two of you, but it doesnât feel heavy. It feels like the beginning of something, something you both need but are too afraid to admit.
âYouâre such an idiot,â you murmur.
You shake your head, still unable to fully meet her gaze, the words leaving your mouth before you can stop them. The sting of the tear on your cheek fades as you try to swallow down the lump in your throat, but itâs useless.
Viâs lips twitch, just a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. Sheâs always known how to make you smile, even when everything else around you seemed to be falling apart. Now, itâs the same thing. Sheâs still that person who knows how to make your heart feel lighter, even in times like this.
âI know.â
Her voice is soft, almost teasing, but thereâs no mockery in it, only the acceptance of your wordsâbecause sheâs heard them before. Sheâs known, deep down, that you always thought she was an idiot, that she was reckless, that she made mistakes.
But none of that mattered.
Sheâs always loved you. And youâve always known it, even if you didnât want to admit it at first.
She scoots closer to you, the space between you shrinking as she leans in, her body warm against yours. You can feel the weight of her presence beside you, the soft strength that always made you feel safe. Her hand tightens around yours, pulling it into her lap, and you let out a shaky breath, closing your eyes as if you canât bear to look at her yet.
But her touch reminds you of who you were before everything fell apart, before the years, the distance, and the pain.
âI know,â she repeats softly, her smile growing. She brings your hand up to her lips, softly pressing a gentle kiss on your knuckles, the red still staining her ears as she nudges you with her shoulder.
âBut Iâm your idiot.â
And you want to laugh, want to smile and tease her like you used to, but instead, you just sit there. Just breathe.
Vi is here. Sheâs real. And sheâs never stopped loving you.
And maybeâjust maybeâyouâre ready to love her back the way sheâs always wanted you to.

You knew this would happen. Once your relationship with Bruce got out there would be an influx of love and hate. You also knew that everyone else knew that as well. It was common knowledge than anyone around a celebrity of sorts would experience that.Â
Of course you did the normal things, turned off most notifications and only looked through areas online you knew would mostly be safe. You blocked tags and and only followed people you knew or ones who didnât post about drama.Â
When you did stumble onto hate, you moved on. If someone kept sending you nasty messages you blocked them, when they made other accounts to keep sending the same things, you changed your settings so only those you followed could message you.Â
It wasnât something you wanted to deal with but it was something you could handle. Something you started mentally preparing yourself for when Bruceâs attention on you lasted more than 4 dates, even more so when you caught yourself daydreaming about him.
You were not going to let random bitter people on the internet destroy your happiness like they did their own. Your family however, wanted to destroy what was left of your haters' happiness. Something you were trying to curb, but trying to tell a family of vigilantes who considered you the best mom in existence not to destroy your haters was like talking to a brick wall. Over the years, you had gotten used to it. It barely even registered anymore. But there had been a recent influx of the hate and while it didnât bother you, it bothered the rest of your family. None of them could stand people talking bad about their mom.
While you hadnât been there while the older ones were young, the second you had introduced yourself to them, you had taken a very important role in their lives. None of them realizing it at first. All of them had gotten used to the random women Bruce brought home that it took a little while for them to realize how important you were.Â
Dick wasnât sure at first. Thinking you were just another girlfriend that wouldnât last long. So he didnât really interact with you much. Ignoring your existence when it wasnât too rude, or at least obviously rude. Until one night when he was staying at the manor and had a nightmare about his parents death.Â
Bruce had an open bed policy. As long as there was still room for him, his bed was open. A policy he had started when Dick had gotten old enough he was worried he wouldnât be allowed to go when he had a nightmare. Bruce had always reminded all his kids, that nightmares donât go away just because youâre older and that needing comfort wasnât something they would outgrow.Â
The thing was, you were there. Girlfriends didnât mind when children did it but they never liked it when his adult kids did it. The shaking in his hands and the way he saw them fall in the darkness of every blink told him the only way he was getting any sleep was with someone.Â
Hopefully he could just slip into Bruceâs side and leave before you woke up. That was the plan until he found Damian on Bruceâs side and you had been pulled closer to Bruce taking up what was left. You moved a little and Dick took that as his sign to deal with it himself until he heard you whisper his name. He hummed so you knew it was him and not some random stranger standing over Bruceâs side of the bed.Â
âNightmare?â
âYeah.â
âCome on.â You lifted the blanket next to you, âBruce told me you guys come here when you have nightmares. There's plenty of room over here for you.â Dick hesitated for a second before giving in. He needed sleep anyway. You werenât when you said there was plenty of room, Dick had most of your half of the bed. Once he had settled on his side, facing away from you, he felt you pull the blanket over his shoulders.Â
âNight Dick, sleep well.â For some reason, that was what did it. Once the tears started they didnât stop. Silent sobs made him shudder and he felt one of your hands gently rubbing his back. âOh Dick.â There was no pity in your tone and he found himself rolling over and curling into you. Your chin resting on his head while you rubbed his back.Â
The next day, he followed you around like a puppy. Your side of the bed became his favorite when he had nightmares and it wasnât long before he turned to you for general comfort over anything.
Jason met you at his grave. Neither of you exchanged words, but he caught something in your gaze he didnât quite understand. He also wasnât sure why you were at his grave either, he didnât know you when he was younger.Â
When he saw the Gotham News post about Bruce and Your 2nd anniversary, it brought more questions than answers. Why were you at his grave alone? Let alone longer than a few seconds. It was an odd way to gain more of Bruceâs affections.Â
Every Tuesday you would be there, leaving flowers and talking softly to the stone. Every time you left, you would smile and nod, the look in your eyes he couldnât figure out was still there. Every time he would strain to heat what you were saying and only be able yo a few words here and there.Â
6 months into it, the routine changed. You brought a blanket and Basket with your usual flowers. You did what you normally did with the flowers but instead of talking to the stone you waved him over. When he didnât move, you stopped what you were doing and looked at him.Â
âJason Todd, I have been keeping your secret for 6 months. Helping me spread this blanket and having lunch wonât change it.â He stared at you while you waited expectantly. Eventually when he could get himself to move, he came over and helped. He sat down where you motioned for him too, all while trying to figure out how you knew.
âBruce mentioned this used to be your favorite when you were younger so I asked Alfred to teach me how to make it. I hope it's up to your standards.â He looked at the plate of food you handed him. It was almost overflowing with food, all of which reminded him of the good times back at the manor before he died. âAlfred also sent your favorite cookies when he heard I would be eating at your grave.â The bag of cookies was placed next to the basket, within easy reach.
âWhy?â Was all Jason managed to choke out around the lump in his throat.
âI decided early on in life, no matter who I was with, I would love their family as my own. My grandfather hated my grandmothers side and it caused a lot of pain in all the generations. I decided I would never do that to another family.â Jason found himself back in control enough to start eating.Â
âSo when I started dating Bruce and he told me about you, I decided to treat you like you were my own. Even though I had never met you and you were dead. Most of what that meant was keeping your grave clean and always making sure there were fresh flowers. While I did that, I would tell you everything that was going on.â
âHow did you know it was me?â
âYour eyes, they may be a different color but they looked too similar. So I did a little digging and found pictures of your biological pictures to place the face shape it matched. I think however you look more like Bruce then either of them.â
âAre you going to tell them?â
âAs much as I would love to. Itâs your choice. Youâve been keeping this to yourself for a reason. If I can help you get to a place to tell them, I would love to. But I wonât say a word until you're ready. However, I would like to keep having lunch with you.âÂ
A year later, Jason reintroduced himself to the rest of the family a lot calmer than originally planned and was glued to your side anytime he felt overwhelmed that night. Every Tuesday after that, lunch was scheduled.
Tim was nervous when it came to you. He was still living in the manor so he saw you more than the older two. You always seemed nice and respected his privacy but Bruce was always with you so you obviously would.Â
It was when he wasnât around that worried Tim. Bruce attracted golddiggers and they were always mean when Bruce wasnât there. When you were given a copy of the key, Time braced himself.Â
Of course he knew that if he told Bruce anything that happened like that, Bruce would break it off. He had always told them that they came first. But he also knew that Bruce liked you a lot. All the other ones Bruce liked a lot that turned out to be horrible, he broked it off. Tim had seen how it had made him upset and he really hated doing that to him. Maybe he could deal with it for once.Â
So when Bruce left for a business trip, Tim was Expecting the worst. What he didnât expect was for you to knock on his door and ask if you could join him. When he agreed and stepped back so you could come in. He expected you to go to his bed or his desk chair not, the oversized bean bag on the floor.
âI have a question for you but you canât tell Bruce yet.â Here it comes. âWhat would a funny way to tell him I know heâs Batman?â Tim wasnât expecting that one. âI was thinking a lot of batpuns but his paranoia is too bad for that.â
âHow did you figure it out?â You walked him through your process and didnât say anything as he wrote parts of it down. Once you finished explaining the process for Bruce, you explained any way it was modified in figuring out their identities.
âWho do you think I am?â
âRed Robin.â Tim found himself getting excited.Â
âYou know those notes you leave him in his office?â You nodded. âYou should leave those in the Batcave.â You considered it but your thinking was interrupted but Tim shouting.Â
âNo! One night when weâre all in the cave, you could bring some snacks!âÂ
âYou just want snacks when heâs lecturing you donât you?â
âMaybe..â
âAlright, but you have to tell the others so they can tell me what snack they want.â
So Tim slowly and carefully went through all his siblings, letting them know you figured it out, Bruce didnât know, and what the plan is. Every time he relayed a snack to you heâd watch how carefully youâd write it out to make sure you had it correct or look up recipes if you couldnât find it in stores.Â
Two weeks later, Tim was the one who sent the signal in the middle of a lecture everyone was receiving and he got a front row seat to see Bruceâs face when you walked in and handed out snacks before giving him a kiss and telling him to be nice and leaving.Â
Any other worries were left in the dust when you helped him win the nerf war for the best seat in the home theater. He thoroughly enjoyed his spot next to you while Bruce swore revenge from the other side of the room.
Damian treated you politely but that was it. His mother was still alive and he didnât want another one, one was more than enough. Not only that, but you were weird.Â
One time when you were over, you found one of his report cards. Immediately you were praising him. He didnât understand why, he had basically failed one of his classes with an A-. You should be disappointed like his mother would be, not hanging it up on the fridge and telling people not to touch it. Definitely not taking him out for ice cream and calling him so smart. He definitely shouldnât be feeling any pride when he walked past it, but he still was.Â
When he was practicing his violin and Messed up, you were supposed to tell him to stop failing, that he should be better. Not smiling at him and telling him heâs making good progress. You should be telling him that he should have memorized that piece in a day. He shouldnât be feeling any pride when he finally does memorize it, it took him 4 days to learn it.
When he was struggling to learn a language, you were supposed to tell him to work harder. He could do better, after all, he already knew so many. Instead you just smiled and recommended a break to refresh his mind.Â
When he snapped at you in Arabic, he expected you to be upset since you didnât know what he said and it was obviously not something nice. Instead you set the rule that if he was going to use Arabic to speak to you when upset, that he had to teach it to you and if what he said wasnât something you had learned yet, he had to tell you in english. When he told you what it meant, you didnât even get upset. He definitely shouldnât be as excited as he was when you actually started learning.Â
So many more little things piled up, leaving Damian confused. The differences between how you and his mother treated him was so big he didnât know how to process it, he liked you and all the little things made him happy in a way he hadnât really felt. But he still loved his mom, When he had enough of it, he asked you to stop. He still wanted to love his mom. Once again, you did something you werenât supposed to.
âOh Damian, Iâm not trying to replace your mom nor am I trying to make you feel like you canât love her or she doesnât love you. Your mom and I show our love in different ways and its ok for you to love or like both of us. You mother loves you and she will always be allowed in your life if thats what you want.â You werenât supposed to do that, but Damian was really glad you did.
Barbara wasnât sure how you would react to her. She wasnât just Bruceâs kid. She had a loving family she went back to every night. Most people werenât really a fan of that, one of Bruceâs past girlfriends had some strong and hurtful things to say about it.Â
When you took her for a day out, she found herself warming up to you but still waiting for the other shoe to drop. One of the new places you had planned to go, didnât have wheelchair access. Like all the other girlfriends who had done this, she expected you to be annoyed that your plans had to change or you would just leave her outside while you shopped.Â
You didnât seem to notice her hesitation, just looking at what was next on your list and starting the trip there. When Barbara stared a little longer at a new movie that was in theaters, tickets and snacks were bought and you listed to all the lore she told you about before it started.
While it had been a nice day, Barbara wasnât convinced. One day was easy to fake. Sure she had lots of fun, but Barbara was used to fakes when it came to Bruceâs girlfriends. Of course she wasnât complaining about you being nice, she just wasnât sure how long it would last.Â
âDid you hear about that boutique?â She looked up from her food to look at her dad. âThat new one that you tried to go to with Bruceâs girlfriend? Well there was a report that it didnât meet the Americans with Disabilities act and the boutique is in trouble. People are speculating theyâll have to close down.â
Later that night, Barbara looked into it. They were in trouble, pretty big trouble from the looks of it. Towards the end of the article she found the name of the person who reported it, she wasnât sure who she was expecting. Not you for sure but the Name Y/n L/n took her by surprise and filled her chest with feelings she couldnât describe.Â
The boutique ended up closing but a new one opened. Once it was open, you were the first to ask her to go. That weird feeling came back when she wheeled herself up the ramp and through the door you held open for her. Later that night, in the privacy of her room. She decided she liked you.Â
Steph seemed like she liked you, she acted like she liked you, she didnât really like you. Sure you were nice, Bruce loved you, the others were warming up to you, but she wasnât sure how to feel about you. So she stuck with not actually liking you but pretending to.Â
So when she was around you, it was all smiles and jokes. She wasnât a big fan of it all but she did it because she knew you were important to Bruce and that was enough of a reason for her. She knew Bruce and the others could see through the act but as long as you couldnât, that was enough.Â
When Bruce announced he had to leave for a business trip right before she could hand him the parents visit for one of her AP classes, something the new teacher liked doing. She tucked the paper away. When Tim gave her a questioning look, she shook her head and later swore him to silence.Â
Every time she heard someone mention their parents were going, she felt a pang of jealousy in her chest. Every time Tim mentioned bringing it up to you, she swore him into silence again. It wouldnât be the first time no one showed up for her. She was however thankful you wouldnât be at the manor as much so she didnât have to pretend to like you.
When the day arrived, Steph was not having a good day. School dragged on slowly. Slower than normal. When school finally ended, she had to sit in the classroom and watch everyone else that was in her class leave and the parents of her classmates show up while no one was there or coming for her.
Someone sat in the seat next to her, she expected another family member of one of her classmates. Definitely not you. She couldnât return your smile, too unsure of how you found out, the fact you actually showed up, and how she felt about you being there. You leaned a little closer so that the others in the room wouldnât easily overhear.Â
âI know Iâm not your parent and someone you just pretend to like so if you want me to leave I will. But I figured someone was better then no one. Oh, and Tim wanted me to tell you he didnât spill. Your teacher called the manor because no one had RSVPed for you and I answered it.â
That night, as Steph showed off all her hard work to you, the charade fell. She actually enjoyed her time with you and the boost of pride as you oohed and ahhed over all her projects and listened to her explain all the little details. That night, Steph realized, she didnât need to keep pretending. She liked you, until she found out you didnât like her favorite show but a nerf war solved that.Â
Cass could tell you were different then the other girlfriends, your body language as you interacted with all of them showed it. However that didnât mean she knew how to interact with you.
She had learned that she was fairly hard for new people to interact with. She also knew she had trouble interacting with people she wasnât fighting. So it wasnât a surprise when it started rocky.Â
What was a surprise, was when you found out she was still having trouble reading and writing, you stepped in to help. Well, that wasnât the surprising part, a lot of girlfriends did that. The surprising part was the amount of patience you had when it was only the two of you.Â
When one method didnât help, you tried another. Never once did you snap at her or call her a name. Everytime you got frustrated you would stop and look at her, say something along the lines of âIf I had as much trouble with this as you do, I wouldnât want to keep trying. You're doing absolutely amazing! Iâll keep looking for other ideas, but for now, lets take a break and get a treat.âÂ
Cass wasnât sure why that always made her feel better, but it did. Every treat you brought was something you made just for the tutoring sessions and it always reminded her of what Alfred had told her once. âSomething made with love for you will always taste better.â
And when a method that made it a little easier to learn was found, Cass found herself smiling along with your cheers. Bad days where she couldnât seem to make any progress were always met with the same excitement, cheers, patience, and treats that all the others were.Â
Cass still wasnât sure of what to think of you exactly, but she knew she liked you and that you cared about her.
So when Tim saw the new rise in hate, a sibling meeting was called. They all went through each site, blood boiling as they saw what people were saying about their new parent. Plans were made, declarations of war were ready, and anger fueled all of them. Bruce could tell something was going on, but he wasnât sure what it was and as long as it didnât get out of had, he wasnât sure if he had the energy to deal with it.Â
War was declared in an interview by Steph. The lady was asking questions when the topic switched to Bruce, then you. The reporter was clearly trying to subtly find some dirt on you and Steph was not going to stand for it.
âOh yeah! Y/n! Sheâs the best!â She put on her best press face. Trying to hide her anger over the hidden intent. She didnât have to lie or act when talking about you but the change in the ladyâs face going to disappointment when she didnât get anything she wanted was making her look very punchable.Â
âSheâs always showing up for us and making sure weâre doing ok. If Y/n and Bruce were to break up, I think most of us would go with Y/n.â The way the lady kept trying to get anything really got on her nerves and Steph decided she needed to get out of there before she started using the ladyâs face for target practice. You wouldnât like that.
Cass was the first one to resort to violence. They had asked a thinly veiled question, basically asking if you were a golddigger. So she punched him in the nose and leaned down to flip the camera off. She hated interviews already but that made it so much worse. She hoped you wouldnât be too upset with her punching the guy though.
Jason, surprisingly enough. Did not get violent⊠physically. He did however curse one out and threaten him when the reporter implied you were forcing them to say nice things. When the reporter kept pressing Jason broke his mic and told him if he ever heard him talking bad about you again, a broken mic would be the last of his worries. Jason knew you would be disappointed but he had held back, he didnât shoot the guy like he wanted.
Tim threw his coffee at one reporter because he heard them say you were nothing but a regular person who didnât deserve any attention. He then took over her segment, threatening the company to air it or he would make sure they went bankrupt. Once he finished his threats, anything he said was praising you name. Telling everyone how amazing you were and how much they all loved you.
Barbara made it a point to bring up everything you did for the community when they tried to throw some shade at you in an interview. She had documents to prove it and hacked their systems to add them into the interview so they couldnât claim it was fake. She also made sure to run over his foot when she left.Â
Dick punched a reporter when they tried to ask him what you were really like behind closed doors. He told them the truth, that you were just as good, kind, patient, and loving behind closed doors as you were out in public. He didnât throw a punch until the reporter disregarded that as asked again because she couldnât be that good. Dick knew a lecture would be coming once you saw, but he would rather sit through a lecture then let anyone tarnish your name.
Damian spent 10 minutes cursing and threatening a reporter in Arabic when they asked him if you had ever hurt him. When he was done, he told them in english, that if he ever got asked that question again, he would impale them. He knew you were going to make him sit down and translate everything and the general response you would give but he didnât care, no one speaks bad about either of his mothers.
Bruce figured out what was going on after Stephâs interview. He saw the ones where they assaulted or threatened the reporters and made sure his lawyers were on standby to keep the kids out of trouble. After all, he had seen more than they had.Â
He had watched as you tried to connect with Dick early on, how you worked hard to try and get somewhere. He had woken up before you when Dick had come in that night and heard how you handled it. He had woken up the next morning to find you holding Dick close, like you were trying to protect him from the nightmares. He had seen how you never turned Dick down when he wanted comfort, no matter how serious or silly the matter, and he had heard your excitement when you told him Dick liked you.
Bruce had seen the way you never missed a visit to Jasonâs grave, on a visit of his own, he saw how much care you showed the stone marking it as his lost son. While he hadnât been sure why it was alway the same time on Tuesday, he didn;t mention it. He felt the way you would sob in his arms after each visit, a year after the tradition started, you always said you had promised not to tell and he watched as you kept that promise even if it tore you to pieces. Once the shock and tears wore off for a little bit, he could see the trust that Jason had in you.
He heard the way you questioned if you should have a key to the manor, you didnât want to make Tim uncomfortable in his own home, or how you questioned if you should visit while he was gone. Not wanting to stress Tim out when there was no reason too. He saw the way you and Tim grinned at each other when you brought snacks down for all the kids he was currently lecturing. He head the excitement in your voice as you told him about the tour Tim had given you of the Batcave and the shared laughter as you and Tim worked together to win the nerf war.
Bruce saw how you worked to give Damian the affection he didnât think he needed. He felt you crying in his arms upset over the fact Damian thought you would be angry because he made a mistake or struggled in a class. He heard you practicing your Arabic as you got ready for bed and he watched as you stress paced over whether or not you said the right thing to him about his mother.Â
He saw how angry you had been when you came back from your day out with Barbara. He had heard your call with your lawyer as you tried to figure out what to do. He saw you going through the laws and making a list to make sure your lawyer didnât miss any. He heard about the movie you didnât particularly care about and the lore you remembered in case of another because you wanted Barbara to have someone she could tell all of her favorite things too.Â
Bruce saw the pictures you had taken from the school night. He heard all the details from you as you praised Stephâs work. He saw the way Steph stopped acting around you and the silly arguments the two of you would get into for fun. He heard the way you would listen to her as she verbally worked out her problems. He saw the way Steph looked for you in a crowd, the way she knew you were there but not where you stood exactly, the thought of you not being there never crossed her.Â
He saw the way you stayed up late, researching different ways to teach reading and writing. He heard the patience and kindness and you worked with Cass. He saw the way you always made a treat just for Cass to have after each lesson because you wanted to reward her hard work. He heard the way you cried for Cass when she had a bad day and got frustrated with herself because you knew she was smart and you wanted her to see it too. He heard your celebrations when Cass made any progress, no matter the size.Â
Bruce heard, saw, and felt the way you worked hard to have a relationship with his kids. How you had mourned for their losses, celebrated their wins, and felt their pain. He saw the way his kids blossomed under your care, growing to be better and more confident in themselves. The way you cared for them as if they were your own flesh and blood. So when he was asked about his kids behavior, he said as much.Â
âY/n has worked hard to be accepted by them. Sheâs given so much of her time, effort, patience, and love and never wanted anything in return. She always shows up for them, no matter what the occasion is, big or small, it doesnât matter. If they want her there, sheâll be there. Everytime they need or want her, sheâs there. She never judges them and treats them as if they were her own blood. Of course their upset and lashing out, people are insulting the woman who has cared for them more then most of their biological mothers.â
Later, a clip of you scolding Bruce and all the kids went viral. While you were scolding them over their behavior and making the kids who had reacted with violence or threats write apology letters because asking mean questions does not make it right to respond badly especially when its someone just trying to start drama. Everyone one noticed that there was no actual bite to your tone and no anger when they all refused to stop acting like that. In fact, there was a small soft smile on your face as you shook your head at your family.
hii um i was wondering if mayhaps u could do a zanka nijiku x reader with bpd .. like w reader having intense mood swings,, attachment issues,, jealousy issues,,, etc,,,
Fractured Colours
Pairing: zanka nijiku x reader with bpd
Genre: angst/fluff
Summary: zanka stays with you through hard moments.
Wc: 907
A/n: sorry i took so long to write a bunch of stuff. Ive been knuckling down cause ive been in a mood to write for like 3 days. I got like 4-5 small stories out. Im goated
Youâd always been a storm in a bottle. One minute you were laughing so hard your ribs hurt, clinging to Zankaâs arm like he was the only solid thing in the Abyss; the next, the bottle shattered and everything spilled out ugly and sharp.
Today was one of the bad days.
Youâd watched him spar with Enjin earlierâeasy, fluid movements, that calm mask he wore like armor. When Riyo clapped him on the shoulder afterward, something vicious twisted in your chest. She gets to touch him so casually. Your brain supplied a hundred worst-case scenarios in seconds: what if he realized how much easier it would be with someone stable? Someone who didnât swing from âI need you more than airâ to âI hate how much I need youâ in the same breath.
By the time he found you sitting on the edge of a ruined rooftop, knees pulled to your chest, the mood had already flipped twice.
ââŠYouâre upset,â Zanka said quietly, lowering himself beside you. His voice was even, almost gentle, the way it always was when he tried to navigate your storms. His navy eyes flicked over your face, reading the tension there like a battlefield map.
âIâm fine,â you snapped, then immediately regretted it. Your fingers dug into your arms hard enough to leave marks. Attachment issues were a bitchâyou wanted him closer, wanted him to prove he wouldnât leave, but the second he got too close you pushed. âActually, no. Iâm not. You looked like you were having fun with them.â
He didnât flinch. Zanka rarely did. That composed exterior of his was both a comfort and a trigger; it made you feel safe and terrified all at once, because what if underneath it he was tired of this? Of you?
âI was training,â he answered simply. âYou know that.â
âYeah, well, training looked a lot like flirting from where I was standing.â The words tasted bitter. Jealousy burned hot behind your eyes. You knew it was irrational. You knew, but knowing didnât stop the spiral. âRiyo gets to laugh with you. Touch you. And Iâm just⊠here. Waiting for the day you realize Iâm too much.â
Silence stretched. You hated the quiet almost as much as you hated the noise in your head.
Zanka shifted closer until his shoulder brushed yours. He didnât crowd youâheâd learned that much after the last blow-upâbut he stayed within reach. âYouâre not âtoo much.â Youâre⊠intense. Like the currents down here. They pull hard, sometimes they drag you under. But theyâre real.â
Your throat tightened. Mood swing incomingâyou could feel the crash from anger into desperate longing. Tears pricked your eyes. âI hate this. I hate feeling like if you even look at someone else Iâm going to fall apart. I hate clinging to you one second and wanting to run the next. What if you get sick of it? What if one day you just⊠leave like everyone else?â
His hand found yours. Long fingers, calloused from the Lovely Assistaff, wrapped around your trembling ones with careful strength. âIâm not leaving.â
âYou say that now.â Your voice cracked. Attachment fears clawed up your throat. âBut I push people away. I test them. I get jealous and mean and then I hate myself andâgod, Zanka, why do you even put up with me?â
He turned to face you fully, that slicked-back mullet catching the dim light, blond streaks glowing faintly. For once, the calm cracked just enough for you to see the turmoil underneathâthe same internal chaos he carried from his family expectations, the pressure of being the âperfectâ Nijiku who chose the Cleaners instead. He understood fractured pieces better than most.
âBecause I see you,â he said. âAll of it. The swings. The fear. The way you light up when things are good and burn everything when theyâre not. Itâs not easy. But itâs you. And I chose you.â
You surged forward without thinking, burying your face in his chest. Arms wrapped around him too tightâtoo muchâbut he let you. One hand rubbed slow circles on your back while the other stayed laced with yours.
âIâm scared Iâll ruin this,â you whispered against his uniform.
âYou might try.â There was the faintest hint of a smile in his voice. âBut Iâve survived worse than your storms. And Iâll still be here when the rain stops.â
Later, when the swing settled and the exhaustion hit, you curled against him on the rooftop, head on his shoulder. He didnât move, even when your grip on his shirt stayed white-knuckled. Jealousy still simmered low, attachment issues whispered that this was temporary, but for now his steady heartbeat drowned them out.
Zanka Nijikuâcalm on the surface, turbulent beneathâhad chosen the chaos of loving you.
And for as long as he kept choosing it, youâd keep fighting to believe him.
Bonus scene
You woke up at 3 a.m. convinced he was pulling away. He wasnât even awakeâjust breathing evenly beside you in the safehouse bunk.
You shook his shoulder. âZanka.â
He stirred instantly, alert even half-asleep. âWhatâs wrong?â
âI⊠I donât know. I just needed to hear your voice. Tell me youâre not tired of me yet.â
He pulled you close without hesitation, pressing a kiss to your temple. âNot tired. Never will be. Go back to sleep. Iâve got you.â
hiiii i absolutely love your works. i really like kurogiri, and youâre one of the few authors iâve seen that writes for him. i was wondering if you could write lov (kurogiri, please, and whoever else youâd like!! if you choose to do this) hcs for a reader who finds comfort in feeling pressure on them?? and subconsciously seeks out physical contact from their lover because of this, despite not really liking it from anyone else.
i personally cannot sleep without being completely covered and having at least one pillow against me, and sometimes (this may be a little stupid ,,) i think about how kurogiri would feel as a source of said pressure. i totally understand if this is a weird ask and if you donât want to do it! thank you for being awesome regardless and please take care đ
đ Loving Pressure | League of Villains
You thrive and are comfortable under physical pressure, and this is how they keep your comfort.
He might not fully understand why having pressure on your body helps you, but he didn't care as long as it does.
When you curled around him, he froze the hell out. His instinct is telling him to push you away, but he realized that you need it because you feel comfortable with him.
Hesitantly, he will wrap his hand around you firmly... and now he gets why.
In bed, he will position himself behind you and put his weight against you, wrapping his hand around your side to press you against him more.
When you're pressed against him, he doesn't realize it himself. But you noticed itâthe scratching eases.
D A B I
Really, he understands more than he lets on. He's not too big on someone clinging onto him, but he used to do the same to Natsuo.
If you pressed your body against him to find comfort, he doesn't move a single inch. Will not hug you back, but pushing back is already takes so much effort for him.
The most he would do is resting heavy hand over your hips, circling his thumb in slow circles.
He will let you sleep wrapped up in blankets, even offering his jacket or suggesting that you hug a pillow for extra comfort.
If you explicitly ask for a hug, he will do so. And if it was for an especially bad day, he will never tease you for it. Ever.
H I M I K O T O G A
Oh, she's having the time of her life. Out of everyone, she's the most natural and the most eager, and giving you the most loving hug!
She loves everything that you do; clinging onto her, crawling into her lap, or pressing your body against her, she'll accept it all in a heartbeat.
She'll steal take as many blankets as there are in the hideout, tucking yourself comfortably and nicely, then climbs under with youâhappy, dreamy smile on her face.
For extra comfort and safety, she will even bring her pillow and stuffed toys. Honestly, the bed will be full of fluffiness.
She needs as much contact as you do, and if you one day want to sleep without pressing against her, she'll get pouty.
S H U I C H I I G U C H I
He didn't realize it right awayâhe assumed you just wanted to cuddle him. But when you finally explained why you love to cling to him, he listened and tried to accommodate you from then on.
His hold would be firm and awkward at first. He was a bit insecures of the scales in his body. Give him reassurance, and he'll start to relax.
He asked a few times whether he should adjust or if you had any discomfort. He really wants to do it right and make sure you can feel comfortable with him.
If you fell asleep, he'll grab one blanket to be put in front of you as he hugs you from behind. He noticed you feel the most comfortable this way.
He will never judge you, nor will he rush you. If you're comfortable, it was when he felt happy.
J I N B U B A I G A W A R A
When he realized that feeling pressure helps you ground and comfort yourself, he's all in at helping you... But he kinda bit more than he can chew.
One side of him will wrap you in an enthusiastic hug, while the other? afraid of physical touch, fearing that he might hurt you, it was basically conflicting with each other.
But in some cases, he can be the one craving pressure instead. He will cling onto you quietly, maybe mumbling something in your clothes as he breathes in your scent.
Deep inside, he really loves being your "human weighted blanket." But he can get overstimulated by his touch, so sometimes he will meekly ask you to hug his clones for now while he calms himself down.
He's either enthusiastic or freaking out. It really depends on his mental state, so I hope you'll be patient with him.
A T S U H I R O S A K O
This man is very much attuned with people's emotions. And that includes yours.
He noticed right away that you gravitate more towards physical grounding, and honestly, it honors him that you choose him out of all people to find comfort.
He ask every once in a while if you need to be embraced, and will willingly do so with a careful pressure. His hug would be firm, his hand steady around your back while he breathed in your scent.
He will find steal the best weighted blanket he could buy and the comfiest firm pillow he could find for you. He will even find steal a variety of it for you to choose depending on your mood.
When you sleep, he will be the big spoon. Kissing your nape gently while he protectively wrapped his hand around your waist, sharing his love.
K U R O G I R I
He will get a bit alerted and confused at your clinginess, but once you clarify your reason he will let you hug him no problem.
His hold is firm and somewhat unmovable. It can feel a bit intimidating or anchoring. But it made you feel protected all the same.
He will make sure your sleeping space is fully equipped and optimized. Blankets, pillows, temperatures, everything .
Will be a bit surprised when you ask for a cuddle, but he will do so. Hands wrapped around your back while he tucked your head under his chin, his mist protectively wrapped around you, giving you the right temperature.
If it's you, he didn't mind being a bit late with others. Your comfort and safety are his utmost priority.
I'm kinda projecting in this since I'm also the type that loves pressure too đ please enjoy!
