I wonder if there's any data about if humans that find baby animals cuter than baby humans are less likely to reproduce. Because I just saw a post hypothesizing that the reason humans are so endeared by baby animals is because it's necessary to find baby humans cute to the point of being willing to care for them for the very long amount of time that it takes for them to become self sufficient. Much longer than most animals, for some reason that I'd be happy to have explained to me in the notes. Like, I get that it's because of the fact that we need longer for our brains to fully function, but it still feels counterintuitive. Anyway, that's the idea the poster has about human attitudes towards baby animals. Which seems like a reasonable hypothesis. So I'm just curious if people who have wires crossed in their heads that makes them find baby animals cuter than baby humans results in them being less likely to willingly reproduce. Especially women, who bear the brunt of the effort involved in reproduction. Me, for instance. Human babies are cute, sure, but they don't come close to puppies and kittens for me. And I'm entirely unwilling to rip my body apart merely for the sake of scratching an instinctive itch. I'm also not interested in adopting a baby, given that I view the notion of caring for an infant, at least for an extended period of time, to be a great burden. I know not everyone feels that way, but I do. Perhaps if I lived in a communal environment where there were lots of people helping to care for a single child I would feel differently, but as it is, if I was to have an infant, it's likely I'd be stuck with just me and one other person and like. No thank you.
