HAPPY STRAIGHT EDGE DAY!
I've been wanting to make this post for a while, but I finally have a reason to, I guess. So here's a compilation of every straight edge/anti-drug lyric that Joey Valence & Brae have, to my knowledge:
"I don't do Coke, I do Pepsi" - Dance Now
"Never did drugs, shout out D.A.R.E.β" - Bussit
"When I was ten, I was sippin' Shirley Temples / Present day, I'm still sippin' Shirley Temples" - No Hands
"When I order Ginger ale, I order on the rocks" - Intermission 2
"I got 7 Up in my cup" - The Baddest (counting this 'cause it's a song about clubbing)
"I don't smoke, fuck hookah" - What U Need
"I'm off the Pepsi and you off the perky" - Omnitrix
"Still on a bender / Higher off life than I was on them benzos" - Wassup (this is a JPEGMAFIA verse but I'm counting it)
"I came to party, I don't drink Bacardi" - The Party Song
Honorable mention to the text intro of the Bussit music video: "Warning: all depictions of smoking and drinking in this video are fake. They are just props. However, all depictions of swag are very much real."
This matters to me and probably no one else, but I heavily enjoy the nods to edge in their music. So there ya go >:)
JVB SUCKAAAAAAAZZZZ
Ok so like, I'm listening to Hyperyouth by JVB on repeat rn. And it's all about growing up and fame and the expectations of adulthood and how they both find such joy in dancing, moving, creating. And it's making me think about Shiva who was so carefree, having fun with life. How she's a silver age character and I think that relates to how she is (because remember, DC uses those terms for canon eras. Golden age was JSA, Silver age was dick and Bruce, etc) but Shiva was a character so based in the freedom of the silver age? I'm gonna think about this more and try to word this better... But like, I can't help but think of Shiva being trained and exploring the silver age, and watching as all the heroes gradually evolve into their darker, more serious tones, but Shiva never really changing much? Gahhhh. I want to write something about it now.
