Chapter o1:
The night fallen quickly. I realize that I wasnât in the city of Seoul anymore, but back in the country side where the mountains are. Not only that, but I was back at my old house where I lived with some of the people I love most.
From outside, I can hear trees moving and the wind whistling as it when tries to come through the window. I stared to the crinkling window moving as the wind blew against it. Beneath the window, there was a table that had a family portrait of my mother, father, brother and I.
I went to pick the family portrait beginning to reminisce about days of how we use to be together.
Out of nowhere, there was a faint voice of my father was calling my name. My heart began race, trying to figure where the voice was coming from. He called my name again.
Next thing I notice was that I fighting resistance of the wind, running towards my fatherâs voice. I was no longer in the house anymore, but in the forest behind our house. The forest consists of countless trees and creatures. Darkness made everything impossible to see. All I can hear were the noises from the broken branches that my shoe made and my pant brushing against plants.
This run seems endless. The low tone of my fatherâs voice seem so close, but he nowhere to be found.
âAppa!â I cried out.
As I continue running towards where his voice, there was bright blue light shining ahead of me.
Entering into where the light was coming from, there was a shadow clutching my father against a tree by his throat. He dropped my father onto the ground. There laid my father motionless body.
âAppaâŚâ My voice shivered as I called for him.
The black shadow stared me with his dark blue eyes as he heard my voice. Quickly the black shadow flew over to me then dispersed into thin air as I stand lifelessly.
There were no more sounds of tree moving anymore or any sound from any animal.
âHyosungâŚâ I heard my father voice calling me again from behind.
I spun around and saw my father standing in front of me again. He let out his hand towards me. As I stick out my hand towards him, he smiled.
I finally woke from that nightmare hearing the sound of rain. However, I realize that nightmare wasnât a nightmare, but partially true.
Just a few weeks ago my father had passed away. He had left this world after entering that exact mountain. However, no can determine the exact reason to why he had died. The only reason they had was that he died from a heart attack due to old age; however, my father was a healthy 50 years old man.
Waking up from the dream, strangely, there was someone warm hand gripping my hand lightly. Soon after the person notices my awakening, he or she lets go of my hand. I had also notice that I my head was on the person who was sitting next to me.
How embarrassing it was to sleep on someone, I thought to myself. I didnât know if I should continue pretend sleeping or wake up. Whatâs even stranger is that this person was holding my hand!
The person got of the seat quickly as soon has the bus came to a stop. I felt my body quickly falling to the side where the person left. I caught myself with my arm in the person seat. I look up to see who was sitting next to me. It was a guy standing 5â7. He was wearing a blue varsity jacket with black skinny pants with a blue umbrella dangling from his wrist. From behind all can see is his dark brown messy curly hair.
Once he got off the bus, I realize that it was also my stop to get off for school. I grab my bag pack rushing off the bus. When I reach outside from in  bus, rains were dripping against my skin. I stick my hand out to catch the water droplet. An older woman came over and handed me a blue umbrella.
âA young man asked me to give this to you.â She said with a sweet smile.
âThank you. Ajumma, which direction did he go in?â I said
She pointed in the opposite direction of where I was supposed to go.
âHyosungâŚâ A familiar voice called
I turned around and notice my good friend Eunji and I waved to her.
Eunji and I had been friend since I moved into Seoul. It turned out that when she was younger her family use to live in the mountain near by us. Her father and my father were very good friends. We began to attend the same school ever since meeting back in grade school. Although we werenât related many people would mistake us to being sister. Our attitude was very similar. We were both very happy people so we get along with many people very well. Eunji has dark brown hairs similar to mine. Her bangs were a little shorter than mine, which covers her eyebrows. She was thin but wasnât to the point that she was consider extremely skinny. Beyond her looks, Eunji is famously known in school for her good vocals.
âHow did you know it was going to rain today?â She said âthey didnât even forecast it on television.â
âAh⌠I just brought it in case.â I said
I look to the umbrella that was in my hand then look to see if he was here still around. He wasnât to be found any more and the older lady had already gone on her to do whatever she was out to do.
We finally got to school, barely wet unlike other students. âHyosunggie, are you still going camping today?â Yeseob asked in a worrisome voice
I looked outside and saw that the rain was gone and the sun was up already. Eunji smacked Yeseob across the head.
I slightly smile shaking my head yes as I lay my forehead upon the edge of the desk.Â
Yeseob has been friend with Eunji longer than I had been. Before we use to be all just be friends, however, as time passed Yeseob had develop feeling for Eunji. Eunji still havenât notice that Yeseob likes her or she doesnât care to notice.
Yeseob was short compare to a lot of the other boys in our class. Although he wasnât as tall, at school he is known to be very charming to many girls. I would like to say itâs because like Eunji, Yeseob is also a very good singer.Â
There were girls screaming and shouting about how handsome âoppaâ is. One of them was of course my brother Yongguk and the other one is his good friend name Kim Jinon. As always I ignored all the shouting.Â
Itâs really hard to miss that Yongguk is my brother because we both share the same kind of gummy smile. Our skin use to be white as milk, but Yongguk has gotten darker due to soccer. The only difference is our personality and our heights. Yongguk was mature compare to me even though he was younger than me. I on the hand was a bit immature, however, I always watched over him like a mother.
I heard a slamming sounds and felt a vibration on my desk. I slowly lift up my head to see a student that I never seen in my life before. He had dark brown hair that was quite a mess that covers his left eyes. He was handsome though, regardless of how his hair was.
He moves his head towards my face.Â
âHello HyosungâŚâ He said as he smirked.
His sharp eyes becomes crescent like.
How does he know my name?
Someone grabbed him by the collar pulling him up. The new kid was throws against another student desk. Strangely, it was my brother he was beating up this new student. I never see him do something like this ever, beside when he is in Taekwondo.
Student from different classes had came to surround the door trying to peek in.
âYongguk, what are you doing?â I said in confusion.
Who is this guy? How does my brother know him?
âNice to see you again, Yonggukâ the new guy said.
Yongguk held a fist up high getting ready to throw a punch at the new guy.
I grabbed Yonggukâs hand and pleaded him to stop.Â
âJoon, you better get the hell out of here or youâre going to regret it.â Yongguk said
âIâm just here to have fun.â Joon said
The bell rung and the teacher was coming in. Joon sat in the seat next to me as Yongguk left out the door.
After class everyone was packing all their stuff getting ready for the senior camping trip.Â
As I was walking on the second floor of the school, Yongguk pulled me off to the side.
âHyosung, I donât want you go camping.â Yongguk said
âI already told Eunji and Yeseob that I was going.â I said
âHyosung⌠you donât understand. Donât go.â He saidÂ
I saw that the bus had arrived through one of the window.
âYour teacher is here!â I lied as he turned around to see if his teacher was there.
When he turned back around I was already running down the stair.
âIâll see you soon! Make sure to eat a lot!â I said
I rushed to a sit on the bus.
I was trying to catch my breath as I saw Joon shoves Yeseob out of his way.
âYAH!â Yeseob said, âYou want to die?â
Joon came to sit next to me. He puts his heads on my shoulders.
âHyosungah, letâs have fun tonight.â He said
Everyone was glaring at us. I stared to Eunji and Yeseob hoping to relief me from this awkwardness.
Eunji mouthed âhe is crazy.â
I shook my head up and down as I came to stare at his face. He was soundly asleep already.
We began to backpack walk towards our camp ground. Eunji, Yeseob, and I were far behind all the rest of the students because Yeseob was using the restroom for a while. After we got off Joon was nowhere to be seen anymore.
âIâm so hungry!â Eunji said
âMe too.â I said
âEunji, I have something for you.â Yeseob said as he smiled slyly.
Eunji smiled thinking it was food.
Yeseob walks in front of Eunji, having his palm close right in front of Eunjiâs face.
âSPIDER!â Yeseob said opening his hand throwing a fake spider towards her.
Eunji scream loudly and then everyone turns back to look at us. I put on a smile at the classmate ahead of us feeling embarrasses.
âYeseob, youâre so dead!â Eunji said.
âHyosung, Iâm going first.â Yeseob said
Eunji caught him and began to hit him as he tried to escape. They continued to run up towards where the other students were and disappear from my sight. As I was walking, I saw that my white shoelace had came apart. I went down to tie my shoe then a strong breeze of wind passed by. Â I can feel the hair on my arm lifting up. I stare up to look at my surrounding. The place wasnât the same anymore. I couldnât hear the chatting of students anymore. There were trees and bushes in places that werenât there before.
I can feel my heart shaking. I looked down on at my shoe repeatedly telling myself âeverything is okay, there is nothing there.â
Noises of someone steps were coming towards me.
âHelloâŚâ I said
I finally saw Joon again, standing against a tree with his arm cross. I look down to finish tying my shoe. However, when I looked to where he was standing again, he wasnât there anymore.
I wonder for hours as the night was approaching. There were no explanations to how I got myself into this. The only thing I knew was that my heart was beating extremely fast and I can feel tears filling my eyes.
There was growling sound approaching me. I stare to the sound and there were five pairs of eyes staring at me with their sharp teeth. They were wolves. I spun around quickly from the opposite way from where they were standing, beginning to run for my life.
I had no idea where I was running too.
I suddenly trip over something falling down a hill. Woods and everything else my body came upon cut into my skin. I finally stopped rolling. The wolves finally caught up to me. I turned to my side seeing trees 20 feets or more beneath me.
What would I rather die from falling off a cliff or wolves?
I lay there unable to move anymore. I took one deep breathe. I kick my feet over the edge, trying to roll myself over. I had two of my hands holding myself up over the edge. Right, when I was about let myself go, something grabs my arms.
I look up to see who my savior was. There was a guy with dark blues eyes glaring down at me. He had curly hair similarly to the guy I saw earlier on the bus. He looked relief.
There was no doubt that I wasnât afraid of this person. However, unlike my dream where these blue eyes haunted me, I felt safe.
âTook you long enough to come out, Kikwang.â Joon said
As he pulled me up to my feet, weakly I fell onto him. He wrapped his arm around my shoulders pulling me closer to him. His hand grabs my left arm pulling it around his neck as he lifts me off the ground.
âI thoughtâŚâ Joonâs voice faded as soon as everything became pitch black
