#hyo the hellmaker

This is one of the best books I’ve read in an extremely long time. The worldbuilding, characters, and plot were absolutely stunning and drew me in! The illustrations (all hand drawn by the author herself!) helped enrich the already stunning story! I was legitimately sad that I finished it and wouldn’t be able to read it for the first time again. One part that I adore is the complete and utter lack of romance. A big issue that I find (specifically at my local library) is that the vast majority of YA I see seems to be copy-paste of the same tropes with a heavy focus on romance. This book has none of that! I don’t mind romance in my books (avid lover of TGCF), but I do wish that characters were developed more outside of the romance.

I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting when I picked up this book, but the sassy sibling duo working against the gods on a magical futuristic island was not. I loved every second of this book, the art within the artistic version was absolutely breathtaking and the story kept my head spinning with theories and possibilities the whole time. I cannot wait for the second installation of this series, I want so badly to see the Hakai siblings continue their journey and I cannot wait to see more of Hyo’s borderline deathwish sass and Mansaku’s humorous charm get them into (and hopefully out of) even more trouble!
