Observation: Cosmopolitan’s August issue adopts ‘fierce’ as it’s theme in all it’s content. One of this taking the form of a fierce money management event in September. This event is all about creating an engaged, fun and informative space to learn from finance experts and inspiring women in order to empower yourself and make all your dreams come true by being financially savvy. The event will be hosted by Sechaba G, keynote guest speaker Jo-Ann Strauss and Old Mutual Unit Trusts Managing Director, Elize Botha. Why: Considering hyh’s relationship with Old Mutual, we could jump onto this event and link it to AMPD Studios by proposing that we host the same event in JHB, as this workshop is only booked to take place in Cape Town? Other than this, it’s obvious that women are taking control of their own future and depending on themselves to make their dreams come true and there are finally platforms teaching imparting the skills of financial empowerment to young women. Yassss!

Future: Understanding finances are skills we need in order to grow and survive in life. Finances and the knowledge it comes with have and will remain to be personal, and not just something for financial guru’s to understand.

Observation: Blowfish, based in Table View, has launched South Africa’s first cannabis oil sushi roll and we are living for the innovation. Their menu now includes two dishes that are served with a cannabis oil-infused dressing: the CANNAfornia roll and the CANNAfornia poke bowls. 

Why: The cannabis trend increases in popularity. Although, being introduced in small doses, the trend is being welcomed by local food and beverage stores and the marijuana fraternity is responding to it positively. 

Future: This trend will continue to grow and as more people indulge in cannabis infused items on menu’s - perhaps it’s the novelty behind this trend that gets people interested. Either way, this trend appeals to an audience and a topic (marijuana use publically) that people have been indulging in on the down-low previously, but today, people are decreasing their level of bashfulness when it comes to lady Mary Jane.
