HYBED HYBRIDS MASTERLIST PREVIOUS NEXT
Standing in line for picture day, nerves already through the roof about your hair staying in place, you were trying to calm yourself with an inner monologue.
“You got this, you look great and it’s going to fine. Just sit, pose and smile.”
The set was in the auditorium on stage. The lights and reflectors set up to perfection. Really what could go wrong?
“Next” the photographer calls out, Maddie being ahead of you goes to sit. They took a few shots and to you they came out amazing. Maddie was a natural when it came to being in front of the camera lm her features popped and her smile made even the photographer smile.
“next” okay, it was your turn. Maddie gave you a reassuring squeeze on your shoulder and whispered a “you look great!”. You felt better after that. But right as the photographer was replacing the film, a cold, slimy liquid splashed onto your head and down all over you and the seat. Startled gasps and murmurs sounded throughout the auditorium.
You couldn’t even make a sound, you were so shocked. You couldn’t see, but you knew it wasn’t pretty. You wiped away the goop from your eyes to look up from where it came from, only to see the tiger hybrid staring down at you from the railing. A blank expression on his face as you gave him a hurt and pissed off one.
From that day, you hated Park Jay and vowed to hate him forever.
“y/n? Did you hear what I said?” Beomgyu waved a hand in front of your face, snapping you out of your thoughts.
“Y-yeah, sorry. I’ll get those edited soon.” You answered as you took the drive with the photos you guys took during the week. He nodded and packed his things.
“Oh, Beomgyu! Can my friend come by tomorrow? She wants to see me along action.” You ask sheepishly before he’s out the door. He mulls it over before shrugging, “sure.”
As you walk to go find Maddie, you bump into someone, sending their books and notes flying along with your own. “Shoot, I’m so sorry. I’m such a klutz” the girl apologies.
“No, I should’ve watched where I was going.” You counter apologize, as you both reach for your mixed up things in a rush and then stand upright to look at each other. The girls eyes go wide before mumbling more apologies and rushing away. Huh, weird.
Jay sat in front of the principals office like he did once a week to check in. Mr. Hong wanted updates on how he was keeping up. But little did he know, he would be the one receiving un update from Mr. Hong.
“Mr. Park, come in.” The door was held open and Jay slipped through, plopping down on the chair as if he were a regular at a bar.
“Let’s make this quick, Josh. I’ve got places to be. People to terrorize.” He says sarcastically, taking a piece of candy from the bowl Mr. Hong had on his desk.
“Jay, this isn’t one of our little chats, so I’d suggest you cut the crap and respect me.” Jay stiffens, straightening up considering the Principal had never used such a tone and growl in his voice. “Look, I’m going to be frank, you’re failing. And I don’t think you’ll be able to get back on the required level on your own.”
Jay groans internally, rubbing his jaw. “Okay then, what am I supposed to do? It’s not my fault I can’t focus.” Referring to his condition that he was diagnosed with by a therapist last year.
“Of course it’s not. But you need to take responsibility to get better by-“ a knock on the door interrupts Mr. Hong. He tells them to come in and what Jay sees turns his blood colder than it already is.
“Mr. & Mrs. Park, thank you for coming.” Jay looks at the principal with a glare that screams ‘what the hell is this!?’
“Of course Mr. Hong. What is this about?” Jay’s foster dad takes a seat next his wife and Jay, who refused to acknowledge their presence.
“Well, to get to the point. Jay isn’t doing well. He’s been skipping classes, missing tests and he hasn’t signed up for any extra curricula’s.”
“Extra.. are those necessary?” Jay’s foster mom asks softly. Causing her husband to take her hand.
“Well yes, it all gets added to his portfolio that will be used to apply for college in the fall.” Mr. Hong looks between the three and sighs. “Look, Jay doesn’t cause actual trouble. He’s just struggling to stay on track with his studies.”
“Skipping classes doesn’t sound like a struggle, Jongseong!” Jay’s foster dad raises his voice disappointedly. Jay doesn’t even flinch, it’s as if he’s not even there.
“I have a solution, but it would require all three of you to be in agreement.”
The two parents nod and Jay just mumbles a whatever, wanting all too badly for this nightmare of a moment to be over.
“Jay, would you be interested in having a study buddy, someone to hold you accountable for staying in class, doing your tasks and helping you study here and there.” Mr. Hong offers.
“That sounds like a parole officer. No thanks.” Causing his parents to sigh.
“You’d also join them in their extra curricula’s instead of having to look for your own. Helping them where they need.”
Something goes off in Jay’s head. Like a fuse lot and the bomb detonated. An idea coming into mind so genius that he can’t help the grin that takes over his face.
“Can I pick that person?”
“Sure. Whoever you would be comfortable with and will listen to.” Mr. Hong says as he gets the paperwork for it, “Did you have someone in mind?”
“Mr. Hong, please!” you try to reason for the fourth time in the last ten minutes.
“Its out of my hands yn.” He shrugs, turning the page of the school newspaper.
“What do you mean it’s out of your hands? You’re the principal. IT’S ALL IN YOUR HANDS!” You say exasperatedly waving your hands around, making him chuckle.
“Alright, look. This would benefit you as well. It would look great on your college applications and get you extra credit.” He says, closing the paper and folding his hands in front of him. “I wouldn’t have agreed to have you do it if I didn’t have your best interest in mind.” He nudges the bowl of chocolates that he knows you always dives into when in distress about something. You take the bowl and keep it in your lap. Unwrapping a piece and throwing it into your mouth.
“Fine. But if he messes up, once? I’m done.”
“Give him three strikes at the very least.”
“Yeah, alright.” You say standing up to leave, “and I’m taking these with me.” You say as a matter of fact. Waving the bowl a little before closing the door.
“I can’t believe my dad made you be Jay’s 'buddy'.” Maddy says as she lays on her back, head dangling off your bed. You sit by your desk with your laptop, editing the photos you took today. They’re coming along pretty good and you can help but groan at your best friend for being the daughter of the man who put Jay into your daily routine.
“I can’t believe it either. But, for now, all I can do is enjoy the last few hours I have of a Park Jay free life.” You say with your head tilted, a big smile towards Maddy who giggles and turns onto her stomach.
“Oh, did you ask your mentor if I could join?” She asks excitedly.
You open your mouth to respond but are cut short when your mom calls for you. “Be right back.”
Rushing downstairs and where your mom stands by the front door. You lean over to see none other than, “Jay? What are you doing here?”
“You dropped these when you bumped into my sister earlier.” He says monotone with a few papers in his hands.
You don’t think you recall his sister. Or bumping into her. You do remember bumping into someone who freaked out when seeing you. Maybe it was her and she freaked out cause she knew you hated her brother and now you probably hate her for this accident. Poor girl. She’s related to Jay.
“Oh, right. Thanks.” You respond dryly, reaching out for the papers and start to walk away.
“Y/N, don’t be rude. The boy came all this way to return your papers at least offer him something to drink.” Your mom scoffs leaving the two of you alone downstairs.
“Come in.” you say with a fake smile.
Jay chuckles deeply and it sends a shiver down your spine. He shakes his head however, “No, it’s okay. I’ve gotta head back. Not exactly supposed to be out.”
You raise a brow at him declining the chance to be in your house. “Alright then.”
“Look, I know, you obviously didn’t want any of this-“
“Yeah no shit.” You grit.
“But I will take everything seriously. I’m not going to waste your time. I swear. Have a goodnight.” He sounded so honest, you almost forgot who he was. But he was gone before you could even say anything back.
Upstairs, you go to join Maddy on your bed. “What happened?” She asks, seeing the conflicted look in your face.
Her eyes nearly bulge out of her head. “What!? What did he want? What did he say?”
“Just gave me some papers and told me that, he’d take this seriously.”
She hums nodding, “well I guess we’ll see about that.”
