I despise the kind of people who think praying and reading the Quran alone makes them better people, and then take pride in every bit of neki they do. Like… if goodness was measured only by how much you pray or how often you read the Quran, then what exactly is the point of akhlaq? Of honesty? Of humility? Of how you treat people when nobody is watching? Religion doesn’t make you superior to people. Your character matters. Your honesty matters. Your husn-e-sulooq matters. Truly good people don’t need to constantly remind everyone how good they are. They don’t deceive, lie, manipulate, or look down on others while taking pride in their khandaan, or nasl. Because what’s the point of a good family name when your own character gives people nothing to respect? And honestly, words like “self-respect” and “ego” don’t suit people who have no dignity in the way they treat others.
