So on this most important of days, Ardyn greeted his beloved wife with kisses and love as usual. Then she was presented her gift, a simple framed photo of better times for them.

"And when you're done with that one," he pointed out the window of their home to the steadily growing mountain of gifts outside. "There's more to enjoy."

Turns out being the chancellor pays well. Who knew?

She hated her birthday most of the time. She wanted to hide in her bed and not come out. But this time it was different. She had her ardyn by her side and she was content.

He woke her as per usual with kisses and more, keeping her attention on just herself. He never made her feel less than royal, honestly. Aera smiled quietly at the photo of themselves, wondering just when someone would have had time to get this of her without her knowledge.

That was when she noticed the mountain of presents, eyes growing wide before looking to Ardyn. "You didn't have to do this." She knew what she would do after opening them. She would most likely donate some of the items to charity. She didn't need that many things.
