Last stop on my tour of the Stanton system - Hurston, and its capital city, Lorville.
This city is the most inspired by Blade Runner.. very industrial, dirty, polluted and oppressive. There are cameras everywhere watching your every move and every citizen is treated like an employee of the corporation owning the planet, which they are.
The moons around Hurston are more hostile too.. with either super heat, strong winds or both. No wonder Hurston is also the location of the game’s prison system.
A few words of advice if you are starting with Star Citizen:
- Keep very few things on yourself and store everything in city or station storage.
- Expect to die and lose your ship often.
- If you are attacked and you are not sure of your opponent’s firepower, run. Do not try to out-maneuver them. Run like hell, in a straight line, full throttle, quantum drive open and ready to jump to the first target, and hope your read shield will hold.
- Only try trading runs when you have money to burn. You will lose money to crashes, attacks and other bugs.
- If an elevator opens on empty or missing cabins, close the doors and call it again.
- Check your helmet is on before stepping out in space. The game will happily let you suffocate and die if you get out without your helmet on.
- If you land at night, use the exterior view, it is usually brighter than inside the cabin. Also use the ping from the scanner to outline hidden shapes, hills, rocks or position of a space station in total darkness.
- If your ship has a ramp, stand on it for a second before stepping out. That will tell you if your ship is stable or about to be blown by the wind. Never step out of an unsteady ship or it could fly away without you (never ends well).
- After landing, store your ship immediately through the fleet control terminals.
- When removing items from your character, always remove containers first. If you remove your harness armor with a weapon or backpack attached, you risk losing your weapon and backpack (and its content). Remove the weapon, then the backpack, and then the harness.
- Expect many quests will not be possible to complete due to interaction bugs with boxes, NPCs, doors, and other location glitches. Be patient with the bugs.
- Most other players are very helpful, and some are extremely generous with their time and money, but some will also take advantage or outright try to kill you.
