In the work of Luis Mata Lóbez, the hunting scene is constructed as a synthesized image, evoked rather than described.
A lady, mounted on a rearing horse, holds a falcon on her gloved hand. The gesture is clear, codified, rooted in a precise iconographic tradition. In the background, the castle and the sunset sky define a recognizable space, though not a realistic one: it is a reconstructed visual memory.
At the horse’s feet, two galgos accompany the scene. They do not emerge as protagonists, yet they establish the rhythm of the composition. Their presence introduces a lower, continuous line that balances the vertical tension of the horse and anchors the image within the movement of the hunt.
The painting simplifies, reduces, organizes. Contours are defined, colors are flat, the construction leans toward illustration. Depth is not pursued, clarity is.
