i know everyone and their mom is talking about hunk + diplomacy but

keith is busy with bom stuff and pidge is working with matt on something and lance and shiro are busy on another infiltration mission, and allura is speaking with the olkari, so hunk and coran are the only ones who are free to go on this diplomatic tour to convince a group of people to join the voltron coalition

so they travel to this new planet that has like, only heard about voltron in passing and honestly doesn’t believe that its a thing

hunk’s job is to work with coran to talk to this new planet about what voltron’s done and what that planet will gain if they join the coalition and how voltron can help them

the reason hunk is so good at this is because he’s honest like. 

shiro and allura are, above anything else, going to be very political and strategic

lance and pidge would be more focused on like, moral appeals than anything else

keith would be a Little Too Intense

but hunk is perfect!! for this role!!

hunk is incredibly intelligent but he’s also, like, not duplicitous?

like, when people ask him a question, he isn’t going to strategically answer it to be sure that he gets the reaction/response he wants

so coran brings hunk along all “alright number four lets head on out! hold onto your wimbles its going to be a bumpy ride”

side note: idk if number four is correct

side note 2: coran is. a terrible pilot. a BRILLIANT man. but he speeds and does tricks in the air.

anyway so coran and hunk land on this new planet and the people there are like,,,,, INCREDIBLY suspicious about things

so they don’t believe anything coran says and they bring coran and hunk before, like, a jury of sorts? anyway a good amount of the planets population is there

basically, coran and hunk have to make a huge appeal to the council of this planet in order to even convince them that voltron is a real thing much less that the people of this planet should support it

so they start out asking questions to coran and like coran is super passionate but he can be. a little confusing yanno. so they turn to hunk

and like. hunk doesnt always have the right answers and he doesnt always say what shiro or allura would have said

but thats almost more efficient

the people of this planet arent looking for like. political answers

they’re looking for honesty

so they start questioning hunk abt things and he just answers it, like he doesn’t think about it too much. 

he definitely has like. a minor panic attack but it passes really quickly and he becomes more confident with his answers

people ask him about some of the more technical questions and he answers them easily, and he’s just so incredibly intelligent

but he also doesn’t like, act uppity about it? like its just really clear that he cares about what hes doing and that he knows what hes doing

so after hunk has been basically interrogated for a while, the council takes a recess and coran is just. fucking BEAMING at hunk

he kept patting hunk on the shoulder during the questioning and shooting him a huge thumbs up anytime hunk stumbled over a word or stuttered

so hunk is like.. “uh.... did i do good?” and coran is like “you did wonderfully, number four! just like a pralaxian dongbun!”

hunk is just as confused as you are he’s like “alright cool thanks coran”

the council comes back later and everything gets like. really quiet and they look v stern and hunk’s stomach drops bc he thinks they’re not going to join

so the oldest dude on the council looks over the edge of the bench and just says “due to the passionate plea from the yellow paladin, we have decided to join the voltron coalition”

hunk is like. stunned. 

bc he’s always been super anxious during presentations and like, everything else

but this ENTIRE PLANET is joining something bc of what he said

he takes a couple seconds to breathe bc thats like. a lot

coran is like. literally cheering. this is not a joke

so they escort a few members from the planet back to olkarion bc they need to get up to date on what is going on

and the entire way home coran is like, praising hunk and talking about how proud allura and shiro will be and how proud he is of hunk and hunk just keeps blushing bc praise

anyway he gets back to olkarion and shiro tells him that he did a great job and allura gives him a huge hug and coran just claps him on the back and everyone!! is so proud of hunk 

hunk is like the #1 pick for future missions like this bc he just did such a good job and even though, like, he wasnt perfect, he was believable and trustworthy and thats really all that mattered
