Money equals happiness, says Snickers
The internet is not a happy place. Whether we’re arguing over politics, Taylor Swift’s phone calls, or even just the colour of a dress, you can barely get online without encountering some variety of ire and frustration. And now Snickers has entered into the fray, but not just to fuel the flames. Snickers reckons that the only reason we’re also so angry in cyberspace is because we’re all just hungry. And, as we all know, You’re Not You When You’re Hungry.
With this in mind, Snickers has developed the Hungerithm. An actually pretty smart algorithm, it claims to be able to detect the mood of the internet. Its developers, some smart bods over at Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, even say that it can manage slang and sarcasm, and apparently it reads around fourteen thousand social posts a day, in order to work out just how angry we all are.
And what does Snickers do with all this information? It lowers the price of Snickers, obviously. Using the Hungerithm app, you can watch as the price of Snickers rises or falls, and freeze it whenever you want. That price is then accessible to you for an hour at any 7-Eleven store across Australia. With already a whole host of positive PR across the nation, we can apparently expect the Hungerithm to hit the UK next year. Big data just got tasty.
