The "Blank Slate" Theory, where Aziraphale and Crowley lose their powers but stay immortal
I have been seeing so many people freaking out about the possibility of Aziraphale and Crowley becoming human in recent weeks, so with the finale coming in less than 12 hours I just wanted to restate a theory I've talked about before and mentioned the other day on @stephratte's post (via my main blog @jenisstillhere) that there is another option for what could happen to Aziraphale and Crowley that people don't talk about. I call it the "Blank slate theory."
Here is what I wrote on the other post:
"...there's a theory that people haven't been talking about much, which is that they lose their powers without becoming human. We know that Angels and Demons draw their power respectively from heaven and hell, so what happens if they're severed from their power source entirely? They could become free agents who retain their immortality but are blank slates without allegiance to either God or Satan. We know that Celestials can change their state of being from Angel to Demon and possibly vice versa according to the Metatron, so what if there's a third state they can be in that we haven't seen yet? Idk if the show will actually go in that direction, but I still find this more likely than the mortal human ending."
So to reiterate: The theory is that Aziraphale and Crowley lose their powers but keep their immortality by becoming blank slate celestials with no tie to either heaven or hell.
Now I'm not operating on any sort of concrete evidence that this is what will happen in the finale, but I find this ending much more satisfying than the mortal human ending people are afraid of. I also think it would be romantic for them to make a major sacrifice by forgoing their miracles in order to be with one another in total freedom, but perhaps I'm a minority there. Either way, please please please let's take a deep breath and have trust that the human ending is not going to happen because that would be obviously, inexcusably bad writing.
