I see lots of comments complaining about how "The Haunting Of Bly Manor" wasn't scary, but boring instead.
I don't think that this show was meant to be scary in the way that horror movies traditionally do (jump scares with no context or story). This series was more about human fears and terrors: the fear of being forgotten when we're gone, the fear of forgetting those we've lost (their faces, their voices, their laughs) and the fear of ending up alone, wandering in this world without a purpose. Also, how we can get stuck by living in the past and relying on our memories to keep us safe, the guilt and regret that haunt us for what we did or didn't do back then, the fear of not being there for the ones we love when they leave us.
I think that all of the mentioned above, is much more terrifying than having a rotten face jumping out of nowhere, in front of the screen, for the sake of producing a momentary reaction.
Yes, the show is slow at times, and all opinions are equally valid, but I don't feel like they are criticising the show fairly, for what it is about.
