They always knew who was watching, including the assholes that had "We watch. And we are always there" as their creepy motto. Usually it was fun misleading and baiting them, sending them in circles until they cried and ran home to mommy, but on very rare occasions they'd had to remove a game piece or two just to remind them the werewolf motto was "fuck around and find out."
Usually their wards sent agents who wandered too close to their sacred places off in a daze once they touched their main barriers, but lately there had been a particular individual that didn't seem bothered by some of the wards, maybe because they had been old and had lost most of their punch the man had blocked his mind enough to get close. He had come sniffing around a site in Scotland that had been abandoned, but had been kept up as a memorial for the tribe it had once belonged to. They had let the evidence of their existence and their culture remain and now this one young human had been all over it. So they'd sent in Rian both to remove the memorial and the human.
He had slipped into mission mode while shifting to half shape before moving towards the campsite a fair bit away from the sacred grounds. The smell of the man's campfire mixed with that of the young man's scent to tickle Rian's senses. He tried not to notice how lovely the night was, heavy with the smell of late spring flowers and surprisingly mild for Scotland. The young man by the fire looked as lovely as the night itself, deeply engrossed in his notes as he eagerly scribbled away about his findings.
Rian gave an annoyed sigh when the usual cold way he had about him while out on mission kept slipping away from him. He growled then simply stepped into the light from the fire and reached for the human's notes to grab them in a clawed hand, unceremoniously dropping them into the flames.
