Hugas Kamay by Jzerenneah Dormido
Upon watching this past 1- minute film and not reading the synopsis first, got me into something. I have to admit that after watching this for a few times, I had a different interpretation with the film compare to its true story.
It is very surprising for me to watch this kind of film where they can tell a story in the span of a very short time. The title as well got me curious on what the film is all about. It is one of those films who used a figure of speech to be able to label a film based on the story behind the construction of the title. Okay, let’s head straightly to the real story.
Surprisingly, the story is really about a woman currently undergoing through the process of abortion. Of course as a sensitive and rare topic seen in media representation, I have sensed a subjectivity in the said film.
Hugas Kamay from the title itself hint us about its stand when it comes to the situation of which they described as ‘ending the life of the unborn child inside her’. You can tell that it is merely pro -life about the issue of abortion.
As someone who was born in a traditional and in catholic religion family, shockingly, I have a different view and opinion about this matter. As a woman and a self- proclaimed feminist, I see no wrong upon undergoing through the process of abortion. I believe it is part of every woman’s right and decision if they want to conceive a child or not. This should not be associated with any feeling of guilt and conscience. We should still consider the future happenings if ever the child was born or not.
For the technical part of the film, I like the creativity on how they visualize and portray the situation using the process of cleaning an actual fish. It is a great representation and adds up to the mood they want to set based on the message they want to imply.
