Headcannon that the Hufflepuffs always throw a giant New Year's Eve party for everyone left behind at Hogwarts. They deck out the common room in streamers and balloons and get way too many party hats and those little things you blow into to make noise. They put up flyers in all of the house common rooms, because of course anyone who wants to can come. They get tons food and sparkling apple cider from the kitchens. They magically align the clocks so that they can count down, even without the television, which would fritz if you turned it on. Secretly, a couple of fourth years sneak in fireworks from Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes and explode them right next to a few people kissing in hidden corners. The evening turns into a drowsy, reminiscent night where people share their favorite memories from the year (per an anonymous request that everyone knows is the seventh year prefect that doesn't want to leave Hogwarts) and everyone makes stupid resolutions that they won't follow through with. It ends with the younger ones drifting off to sleep and the older ones carrying them off to their respective common rooms.
