so when dennis walked in to the ER that morning, he knew all of frank’s secrets. the injury that never really healed, his subsequent dependency, his cheating, his bisexuality he never really got to explore because him and abby had been steadfast since freshman year of college. it made frank feel exposed. it made him sloppy. it made him paranoid that the girl dennis had been half-bickering, half-bonding with the whole day also knew.

after his fall from grace, a couple people reached out. some even drove out to scranton where he was doing rehab. dennis waited for him to officially be reinstated before he said anything.

“how’s your abstinence going?” the intern had the audacity to make a stupid little joke about it all. santos had rubbed off on him.

frank put his stuff in his locker while avoiding the gaze of the only person besides his therapist who knew almost everything. “we both know completely abstaining rarely works.” a coded way of saying i’m full of self destructive tendencies and benzos are now off limits.

dennis replied nonchalantly, like he was bringing up a study he’d read in the post. like he wasn’t pushing the undertone further. “that’s why sex ed is important.”

“i was up for the education fellowship for a reason. i’m a good teacher.” frank hedged his bets.

dennis huffed, “please, i was the good part of that. you just laid there.” cocky. arrogant. a mirror of who frank used to be. the version of frank the current one wanted to be. it made him envious and angry and aroused in some narcissistic way.

“shut up,” frank bit out.

dennis leaned on the locker next to his with a casual smile. “make me.”

“you’re fucking cheesy.”

dennis wasn’t affected by the insult. he just stood there with his stupid perfect hair. “you’re gonna let me fuck you anyway.”
