Description: All good things must come to an end.
"Windshear's just protecting me. She's done that her whole life... it's all she knows how to do."
And now... we were here. Grimmel, defeated... the dragons, safe. For now. But it wasnt permanent. It never was.
I looked up, watching Hiccup walk over to Toothless, who was still waking up from the Deathgripper dart. I averted my gaze to Windshear, who was covered in scratches. I felt my brothers hand connect with my shoulder gently and I reached up, holding it.
"Hey, good morning bud." I heard Hiccup speak. I looked at the pair, watching as the Light Fury approached. "He's all yours." Hiccup stood and leaned against Astrid, smiling widely and leaning his forehead against hers. But the happy reunion did not last long, Hiccup's smile disappeared and he let go of Astrid, giving himself a gentle push off of her to get himself going towards Toothless. I looked at Dagur, both of us sharing confused looks. Why isn't he happy? I returned to watching and listening, my surroundings quiet.
"You're right bud... it's time." Hiccup finally said, both hands on Toothless' cheeks as he looked down at the dragon. My eyes widened. "I was... so focused on creating a world I wanted... I didnt think about... what you needed." He looked at the Light Fury and then back at Toothless. "You've looked after us for long enough. Its time to look after yourselves." I watched as Astrid, with misty eyes, walked to Stormfly. I was confused... afraid. She slid the saddle off the Nadder's back. "Oh, Stormfly... my good girl." She said, her voice cracking as she hugged the dragon and sobbed quietly. The rest of Berk followed suit, saddles falling to the ground one by one. I turned to Windshear, tears already falling down my cheeks.
"Windshear..." The razorwhip walked up to me, her horn resting in my hands. "Windshear... its time for you to go." I said through my sobs. "Its time that you go to the hidden world and be free. Free from the tyranny of the trappers and hunters. Free to live and be yourself." Windshear didnt understand, cooing and pushing herself towards me more. "You have to go, girl. Its safer there. Safer than here, or Vanaheim, or any Berk. I cant protect you anymore." I reached up with a hand and wiped my eyes. "You have to go."
Windshear roared loudly with protest, wings flapping as she pressed against me. "No, Windshear!" I said, sobbing loudly again. "You have to go with Toothless." I push her away gently, crying as she kept trying to push towards me. She paused when Toothless roared loudly and looked over at him and then back at me, calming down and no longer pushing toward me. Her pupils widened as she cooed sadly, rubbing her head against mine and giving my cheek a lick.
"Go, Windshear. It's okay." I said, my hands falling to my sides as she pulled back reluctantly, cooing again and running back over, tackling me and giving me one last goodbye hug. I hug her tightly as I can, my eyes closing. They reopen when the weight is off me, and I stand with the help of Dagur, looking at Windshear. I nodded and she roared, wings opening as she took to the air, not looking back again. I watched as the giant flock disappeared against the clouds, and Toothless finally followed.
