Primrose and queen's cup?
primrose; what book does everyone right now need to read?
Iâd recommend Rebecca Solnitâs Hope in the Dark. I return to it anytime the world seems hopeless. It reminds me that things can and do change for the better, it just doesnât always happen the way we think it will, and it reminds me that hope doesnât mean assuming everything will be okay but it also doesnât mean assuming nothing will. Hereâs a quote from it that I love:
Cause and effect assumes history marches forward, but history is not an army. It is a crab scuttling sideways, a drip of soft water wearing away stone, an earthquake breaking centuries of tension. Sometimes one person inspires a movement, or her words do decades later; sometimes a few passionate people change the world; sometimes they start a mass movement and millions do; sometimes those millions are stirred by the same outrage or the same ideal and change comes upon us like a change of weather. All that these transformations have in common is that they begin in the imagination, in hope. To hope is to gamble. Itâs to bet on the future, on your desires, on the possibility that an open heart and uncertainty is better than gloom and safety.
To hope is dangerous, and yet it is the opposite of fear, for to live is to risk.
And if youâre looking for poetry, Iâd recommend anything by June Jordan. Her words have been a powerful tonic for me these past few months.
queenâs cup; what are you craving right now?
I almost said sex, but then I realized itâs not really sex Iâm craving but making out, the kind of making out where you just kiss and touch one another for hours, almost lazy, and sometimes it heats up and almost leads to something more, but then you pull back from that, and just keep going and going, and it might not even lead to sex at all, at least not right then.
Alternatively, to be sitting on the beach by Lake Michigan at dusk, with a bonfire and a beer.
