A Homestuck update? But it's a bit too soon for a Halloween jumpscare.
Whelp, *pores a glass of wine* so not only was HS2 a naked cash grab like actually WP (and Hussie maybe) is in serious debt, but Hussie also threw the writers under the bus by lying to them as to what the project was for, AND they didn't have a choice as to what they could write. They had to run with all of Hussie's bad/offensive ideas. They were his fuckin meat shields.
FUCK you Hussie is all I got... Would it have killed you be transparent with the people you where hiring? Maybe even give them free reign and not tie them to ideas you knew would piss everyone off? Not bust the kneecaps of the project and people who you intended to leave to the wolfs maybe? Just a thought.
My question now is how much are they in debt to Viz for? And for what exactly? The book publishing? Hiveswap? Or an investment on Viz's part that if they don't see a return on will they just take ownership of Homestuck to do with as they see fit? And how will this then effect fan works? And if so what was that investment for and what was it spent on?
Questions we may never know the answers too but dang if it's not going to bother me for night or two.

I think the saddest part of hs2 shutting down are the people (mostly on twitter) who EARNESTLY believed June was going to show up in hs2. What hussie said was âjune is canonâ. NOT âjune will be in hs2â âyou will see june in the comicâ âjuneâs transition will be writtenâ. Nope. None of that. HS2 is a torture comic, did you really think they were going to give you JUNE?
edit: this post was made before hs2 was announced to be on indefinite hiatus in order to upload hs2 all at once (in however many years it takes to make it). I wrote this post when all we knew was that hs2 was on hiatus for âa few monthsâ and âpatreon tiers were being reshuffledâ. Please donât take this post as a commentary on any current hs2 drama.
on the topic of hs2 being on âhiatusâ if itâs not really being cancelled and they are actually reorganizing how theyâre doing things/doing whatever they claimed the hiatus is for (which i donât remember atm, rip), then I think they might be trying to cater to the fans who donât like hs2 a bit. If I were in their position, I really donât think I could get away with doing more of the same meta/edgy plot stuff like theyve been trying. Theyâre hitting a wall where no matter what they do over half the fandom doesnât like it, and now that patrons are leaving they gotta listen to tha moneyâ˘. whether or not they like the direction fans who are critical of hs2 want it to go doesnât matter, more and more people are starting to realize itâs shit & they need to at least attempt to satiate us.
i think itâs unlikely, but thisâll turn out either two ways:Â
1. They throw some âimprovementsâ at us thatâs halfhearted and feels fake as hell. not in an explicitly condescending way, but in a âheres ur dumb âin characterâ fluff I guess. im gonna copy something a 12 year old writing their first fluff fic would write, I hope youâre happy. please just give me moneyâ way. Like theyâll make a couple attempts at writing what they *think* weâll like but itâll just be insincere.
OR
2. They make a genuine (but kinda shitty) attempt to respond to criticism by improving. No I donât mean criticism like âbooo we hate your pussyâ I mean criticism by people who, in good faith, point out genuine flaws to fix, and strengths to leave alone. You know, all those long essays we reblogged right when the epilogues dropped and the smart fans were jumping ship + giving their reasons why. This ones even more unlikely (and kind of a pipe dream of mine) but i think itâs a (small) possibility
Idk thatâs just my thoughts. i might be wrong, who knows. I just think this would be the best course of action they would actually take if I was in their shoes. (The best course of action would be cancelling & starting over with a completely new story shgfgf, but if they Have to keep the same story, this is what I think would happen)
