Sorry, if this is a question that you've gotten and answered a thousand times already - but, is there any chance of more books set in the Can Wars universe?
I’d planned a third one - “Cradlesong” - but the sales of the first two were so poor that nothing ever came of it beyond the “three chapters and outline” stage.
However, now that self-publishing is more respectable than it used to be (Google for “vanity publishing”), it’s likely to be written after all, and since I used some of the material during e-book revisions of the “Book of Years” series, writing “Cradlesong” will make sense of a few unexplained comments in those books.
However - and long before GoT’s final series wound up with numerous frequently-mentioned elements unresolved; significant prophecies and significant eye colours are just two - I knew the rule about Chekhov’s Gun.
Set-dressing is fine, description is fine, but if one thing gets more attention than the rest, that thing either is or starts to seem important (think of how a movie/TV shot lingers on something) and its importance must be revealed or resolved before the end. If it’s not important, don’t make it appear so.
I was careful not to raise a lot of “what did he mean by that?” questions by making the comments in “The Book of Years” seem too much like “previously, in The Clan Wars”.
As they stand, they simply read like there’s been more happening in this world than just what’s described between the book covers, and that’s how any fictional world should feel.
