The fetching Miss Helena Bonham Carter in the 1992 film adaptation of E.M. Forster’s Howard’s End.

This blouse was first spotted on Mag Ruffman as Olivia King in the 1990 episode of 𝑹𝒐𝒂𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝑨𝒗𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒆𝒂 entitled 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒍𝒖𝒆 𝑪𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑨𝒓𝒂𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒂 𝑲𝒊𝒏𝒈.   In 1992, Prunella Scales was seen wearing it as Aunt Juley in the film 𝑯𝒐𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒔 𝑬𝒏𝒅.   The blouse was utilized a third time in 1998 when Etela Pardo wore it as Mrs. Bronowski in 𝑩𝒆𝒓𝒌𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒚 𝑺𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒓𝒆.   Love a period drama (and its costumes)? This floral blouse appeared on Michelle Dockery as Mary Crawley in the 2011 television series 𝑫𝒐𝒘𝒏𝒕𝒐𝒏 𝑨𝒃𝒃𝒆𝒚.   Before that, the costume was worn by Catherine Zeta-Jones as Mary McGarvie in the 2007 𝑫𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉 𝑫𝒆𝒇𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑨𝒄𝒕𝒔!   The piece most likely originated with the 1992 𝑯𝒐𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅’𝒔 𝑬𝒏𝒅, where it appeared on Emma Thompson as Margaret Schlegel.   Find out where else this piece has been worn at Bit.ly/VicEd106

Hello everyone and happy Friday, we made it! Today I’m sharing another book haul post and also turning it into a mini review of all three of these Forster books after enjoying a Forster reading frenzy with the lovely @pezzasclassicbooks @readingpenguin14 and friends in October. I feel like 2022 has been the year where I’ve re-discovered my love of classics. 😍 I’ve previously read and loved A Room With A View by Forster in the past and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to try some more of his work. Where Angels Fear To Tread was the first I picked up and although it hasn’t left as deep an impression when I compare it to the other two novels, I’m still in awe of the way he writes, particularly female characters. I’ve found that there’s always a delicious little surprise that you’re not expecting with Forster and this particular one was heartbreaking 💔 Up next was Howards End. I loved the characters in this book! Particularly Margaret who was independent, determined and took no prisoners. I also appreciated the difference in morals, values and traditions between three very different families and how Forster managed to bring everything together for quite a satisfying ending. Finally, A Passage To India, which funnily enough, is the novel I keep thinking about. Some of the casual racism in here is very much of its time but made me feel extremely uncomfortable at times. Again, it follows how certain groups of individuals, this time from different cultures and beliefs get on together when thrust into a certain situation. It was shocking, surprising but incredibly readable after somewhat of a slow start. I’d love to know if you’ve ever read anything by this author. Are you a fan?
