Back in the day, syndicated radio shows were often distributed to stations on vinyl and then the station would play them over the air. If you find the rare discs, they have a full show on record, including DJ patter and even ads. So I picked up this mid-80s interview show maybe a year ago and it has been sitting in my ānewā pile half-listened to ever since (I certainly didnāt pay $12 BTW; thatās an old sticker from the legendary, now long-gone Sounds in NYC). So I put it on and the interviews were still surprisingly boring, but at the end of Side 3, I found an awesome surpriseāa minute-long Budweiser ad performed by Oingo Boingo, the punk rock/1940s jump swing band fronted by Danny Elfman, who went on to compose soundtracks for every Tim Burton movie and dozens of other hit films. What OB plays here is not really the Budweiser jingle (āfor all you do / this Budās for youā) but rather an original, all-new song, though they do sing the slogan over it. The tune has a few elements that were probably derived from āWho Do You Want To Beā (my favorite OB song), like some of the trombone solo and the general jerky-jerky beat. Itās amazing to discover new, lost music from the band at its creative heightāI was thrilled! Because I found such buried treasure on this, I threw a post-it on to the cover so that I wouldnāt forget where it is (Iām not going to write on the jacket like some DJ did years ago) and while you could argue that this belongs in my Eurythmics or HoJo sections, it is now firmly residing in the Os. āØ

We are in Columbus, Ohio tonight 10/25 at @aceofcupsbar with @kraustx & #DANA .Ā Ā Doors at 7pm.Ā Ā Columbusā @closedcap is in love with Pinned:Ā Ā https://closedcap.com/2018/10/24/were-crushing-on-pinned/ Photo by #clemensmitscherĀ Ā #columbus #ohio #aceofcupscolumbus #aptbs #pinnedworldtour #pinned #repinned #aplacetoburystrangers #music #showtime #thursdaynightparty #kraus #dana #closedcap #ustour #tinsoldiersandnixonscoming #howardjones #rascalflatts #bowwow #bizzybone #dwightyoakam #beverlydangelo #joshradnor #philipmichaelthomas #nickswisher #peoplefromcolumbus The area including modern-day Columbus once comprised the Ohio CountryĀ under the nominal control of the French colombian empireĀ Ā through the Viceroyalty of New FranceĀ from 1663 until 1763. In the 18th century, European traders flocked to the area, attracted by the fur trade. The area found itself frequently caught between warring factions, including American Indian and European interests. In the 1740s, Pennsylvania traders overran the territory until the French forcibly evicted them.Ā Ā In the early 1750s, the Ohio CompanyĀ sent George WashingtonĀ to the Ohio Country to survey. Fighting for control of the territory in the French and Indian WarĀ (1754-1763) became part of the international Seven Yearsā WarĀ (1756-1763). During this period, the region routinely suffered turmoil, massacres, and battles. The 1763 Treaty of ParisĀ ceded the Ohio Country to the British Empire. After the American Revolution, the Ohio Country became part of the Virginia Military District, under the control of the United States. Colonists from the East Coast moved in, but rather than finding an empty frontier, they encountered people of the Miami, Delaware, Wyandot, Shawnee, and Mingo nations, as well as European traders.Ā Ā The tribes resisted expansion by the fledgling United States, leading to years of bitter conflict. The decisive Battle of Fallen Timbers resulted in the Treaty of Greenville, which finally opened the way for new settlements. By 1797, a young surveyor from Virginia named Lucas Sullivan ha founded a permanentĀ settlement on the west bank of the forks of the Scioto River and Olentangy River.
