Oh my god I’ve been in my grandparent’s house for 18 hours and I’ve already had two nervous breakdowns and exchanged countless stressed looks with my siblings I don’t leave here until Friday morning someone help me

#my grandparents are...#how to explain...#my mother dedicated her entire life to being nothing like her parents.#My grandfather isn't that bad these days; he's chilled out a bit.#My grandmother on the other hand...#we can do no right in her eyes #my grandparents have two children; my mother and my uncle; my mother is the older one #and they are not at all subtle about favoring my uncle and his family #he has the white picket fence life with a lovely wife and two lovely daughters and a dog a cat and two hamsters #and my mother has two failed marriages and four kids who don't fit into their picturesque worldview at all #and it's so painfully clear whenever we see them that they view us as an extension of her- a disappointment who can only make mistakes #and it gets so difficult pretending to be patient with them #and pretending like I don't resent them for everything they've done to my mother #there's a reason my mother left as soon as she could #and I do love my cousins and my aunt and uncle #I just have no idea how to relate to them #they are fully decorated girl scouts who have been on sports teams and in dance classes for their entire lives #my uncle is the manager of a bed bath and beyond location #my aunt is an air force vet who's now a dedicated PTA mom and active member of her church #and my mom was a chaplain; then was unemployed for about six years; and now works in retail #and a side effect of our mother raising us to follow our passions and be who we want to be means that our grandparents don't understand us #because they can't understand how much better off we are for having a safe loving home no matter how outlandish our lives or goals are #anyway #four days.#I can walk on eggshells for four days.#they're paying my tuition.#I can do my best to make my mom look good to them #but the entire situation makes me so so angry.#I hate how small she feels in here.#I hate how I feel like I have to be bigger and more rebellious to take the stares off of her
