dr muhahaha gives off weird doctor who villain vibes
So I was thinking about this a few minutes ago--from Chapter 10 of Hounded. And aside from how in martial arts movies, I can't recall anyone "preening", this rings incredibly hollow given that Atticus/Hearne's entire concept of "martial arts" is "cool kung fu from Asia".
The final duel of the book is decided because while the main villain hasn't learned any new sword styles, Atticus refers to styles he learned "in Asia", indicating that he doesn't think of anything that isn't stereotypical Asian martial arts as martial arts, which implies that his view of martial arts is... stylized, movie-style kung fu.
Which most fighting, even from those systems, doesn't generally look like in real-life.
Anyhow, carry on.
