Rewatching a random episode of Elementary (excellent TV, the definitive 21st century Holmes show, a personal favourite as you well know), and something this show has that so many higher budget (streamers) series lack is a sense of place.
There’s so much New York in there (so much so that even the early “London” flashbacks were actually shot in Manhattan), outside of the Brownstone interior, there’s very little that feels “fabricated” or like “stuff you’d only see on TV”.
Not having the budget to build a bajillion bespoke sets or use extensive CGI forces you to ground things by pointing your camera at stuff that’s already there without disguising it too much, and that will always make your show feel more fresh, less phoney.
