We know it’s horrible. We know that it shouldn’t have a place in our society, yet it’s still there. Like a festering boil in our world when it should have been eradicated like small pox, or Vanilla Ice’s music…

Okay so I had some thoughts this morning that I’d like explained to me a little bit. So I read online that women earn 75% of what men earn in the same jobs. That doesn’t seem fair, does it? So, it should seem obvious that I should support politicians who are “fighting for equal wage.” Now here’s where it gets tricky: what are the implications of that? How do you actually go about implementing that? Minimum wage is the same for men and women, right? Then isn’t that really all we can do for equal wage? If the suggestion is that for higher up positions wages are different, then how do you plan to fix it? If an employer wants to reward a male worker by giving him a raise, would it then be federally mandated that said employer would also need to give all of his women counterparts raises? If so, then would that employer have to raise all their male counterparts’ wages as well, because it’s ‘equal’? So… If an employer would want to raise someone’s wages, theoretically then, he or she would have to raise everyone’s wages, and the employer would just opt out of giving a raise altogether… Correct? I’m not saying I’ve heard anyone say that’s how they would “fix” it, but that’s the only way I can think of as a “solution.” But really, I feel that would be taking away employers’ freedoms when it comes to paying their employees what they see fit. Or is it about starting wages for a job being the same? If those are unequal then what is your practical plan to MAKE them equal? As a woman, I don’t want to earn less than a man for the same quality of work in the same job, just because I’m a woman. That’s not right. But… I’d like to counter the validity of that statistic and say maybe that’s not true… Because if it were true, if employers could REALLY get away with paying women less for the same quality of work, in the same jobs, just because they’re women, then wouldn’t employers get rid of all of their male employees and just hire women? If they can make more money for their companies because women earn less, then it stands to reason that it would be a lot harder for men to earn jobs. Right? Just food for thought. I’m not saying I’m for or against anything, I just was trying to rationally sort through this this morning and this is what I came up with. There seems to be holes and I want to know if I’m missing a piece to this puzzle.

I mean, so what if a manlikes another man, or a woman likes another woman? Who cares, it’snot gonna affect anyone else but them, unless they happen to beassholes about it. Same goes for people who like both, like mybrother. He isn’t hurting anyone by being attracted to both guys andgirls, so who gives a fuck?

Then, of course, there’s people likeKrem. Krem is….hell, he’s as much a man as I am, regardless of whathappens to be between his legs. I don’t know why that’s so hard toaccept, or why it took a damned Qunari of all people, to finally seehim for who he is and just…accept it. Granted, after talking toBull, his straight up acceptance made a lot more sense, and it’s oneof the few things about the Qun I can say I agree with.”

“I…am going to get a lot grumpypeople on both sides for this, but you did ask for my opinion so heregoes: Wanting equal rights is commendable, and one shouldn’t have tofight for things that should already be in place. That being said, Iam stoked that LGBTA+ couples of all kinds can now get married, andeven adopt without much trouble in some places. However, sometimes Ithink we push for too much too fast, or maybe too hard. I don’t know.

I just…accepting others takes timeand patience. It’s not going to happen overnight, no matter how muchwe might want it to. There will always be people who are going topush back, but those people are starting to become the minority.Honestly, I think what bugs me the most about the whole thing isthat, in our effort to gain equality, we put other groups down justas harshly as they do to us. Oh, that person over there is Christian?They must be a homophobic ass trying to force their beliefs down mythroat.

I am not even kidding. I’ve seen thisso many times and it pisses me off to no end. On top of that, wetreat others of our community with the same sort of discrimination asothers. Bi men and women are always getting told that they aren’treally a part of our community unless they’re in a same sexrelationship, because otherwise they’re just another straight couple.Like..no? They’re still bi, just because they have a partner of onegender doesn’t mean they aren’t still attracted to the other.

And don’t even get me started on howcruel people can be to those who are Trans or Ace, because I willjust end up wanting to strangle someone. Stop erasing peoples sexualor gender identities because you don’t like them or agree with them.Stop telling people on the Ace spectrum that they ’just haven’t metthe right person yet’ or some other stupid bullshit along similarlines. Stop bloody misgendering people. If a person tells you thatthey use a certain set of pronouns, fucking use them. Occasional slipups can happen, but just apologize, correct yourself, and move onwithout making a giant fuss over it.
