I was listening to the statement reading of the guy’s journey to becoming a buried avatar. Up until the bell thing and the burying other people alive I was like “dude same”. My sleep has always been bad, I love confined spaces; and have you ever laid in a hole of cool earth on a warm summer’s day? It’s lovely.
thinking about the third book again. I know that they were already jaded at the beginning but like they were really over the whole paranormal entity thing by the time Nymph showed up. Like it went from “jesus fucking christ it’s a demon who knows what it can do” to “we are unlicensed private investigators and who’s suspects just so happen to be of magical origin”.
The next time some entity tries to do the routine of levitating and emotional manipulation Dave might cut them of with “Sit your ass down and shut up, you are in my house and you are going to play by my rules or be smote. Is that clear or do I need to writ it down for you.”
Horror is the let's be gross and weird and uncomfortable genre. Unfortunately Kryptic is gross and weird and uncomfortable in none of the ways I'm into.
But maybe you will be.
There's a message in there about finding oneself, maybe being you're own monster perhaps but honestly I kinda lost it in all the weird. Lives up to its title this one.
Has some great shots and a few fun characters. Monster wasn't great. Ending really kept with the theme of being cryptic and weird.
Just not my kinda thing.
If you plan to watch it know the second half features some moments that border on sexual abuse.
Okay, further yapping about the final girl, Tezcatlipoca. It's mainly just like curiosity on once more like why there haven't been horror films done with mythology and folklore. Besides the obvious La Llorona. And even then, the United States hasn't made a decent movie about the legend. The only good film I've seen so far is one done by the Guatemalan film director Jayro Bustamante for the film La Llorona. Which if yall haven't seen it. Please do its amazing, and the cinematography is beautiful.
But yeah, like folklore and mythology is just so rich that like it would be interesting to have any of the deities be final girls. Espically one of the four tezcatlipocas. But for tezcatlipoca, it seems really easy to do because you could reference the deity easily through the object of an obsidian mirror that they can see events through. Obvi, there would need to be more research for soundtrack, clothing, and everything else, but like the mirror could be an easy start.
That's not also getting into the themes or personality of Tezcatlipoca. Someone who is free, chaotic, someone who follows their own rules and passions. Often being seen as a force too chaotic for their own good. If we bring quetzalcoatl relationships, a force that even pushes their family away at times.
I mean, hell, if you wanted to add the queer subculture in there, too, you could 100%.
But yeah, the idea of a story where a girl, whether it's actually tezcatlipoca or an allusion to him, would go hard. You would have the mirror be the central part to see future events that the girl could either ignore or try to avoid. Or even learn how to work with the mirror at first if this is something that is being passed down through family. I mean, if we are talking injuries, having her lose her leg and trying to learn how to walk and bounce back from that is also important. Espically if it's from an event that was from the mirror.
Overall, I think horror should pull from folklore/mythology because it would go hard but yeah!

Picking horror movies to watch tonight, with my son. We watched one with John Lithgow that was terribly upsetting all the way through.
That was 'The Rule of Jenny Pen'.
Lot of disgusting things done to the elderly, by the elderly, and really just not my kind of horror.
So we needed something else to forget that one.
"This one has a shadow monster."
"Are you going to be weird?"
"Shadow monsters usually mean sleep paralysis or night terrors and I like those because I used to have those and they're scary."
"Fine but don't be weird."
"I make no promises."
I was not weird. It was genuinely unsettling. Cool monster effect too, even if there wasn't a full reveal until the end. I usually like those more but there's only so many things films do with shadow monsters and I am impatient.
Real good movie though.

Will I lose my horror card if I say I don't like the first Halloween film?
I'm not big on slashers in general but slashers with extra stalker vibes are apparently enough to make me stop caring.
Yet I am watching it. Because I never have and it is a classic.
Nightmare on Elm Street was more fun and genuinely scared me when I saw it. My dad let me stay up late to watch a show with Robert Englund on it so I could see Freddy without the makeup and stop having nightmares.
I don't think even little me would be scared of this one. Although, I will say, I would have been intrigued. If only because of how very long these death scenes are, very little blood but boy do they linger.
They linger as well on every quietly uncomfortable moment, which I'm sure is on purpose and should aid the dread.
As should the stalker shots, as roughly everything is shot in a way that makes one feel as though they are seeing what they shouldn't. I feel a voyeur with these camera angles.
It's not working for me, but I appreciate it.
Quite unsettling in its way.
Don't think I'll bother with the sequels though and I am blaming this one for so many horror movies over-using dramatic stings.
So if it costs me any credibility I might have had, so be it. I prefer the big bad be a monstrous thing, a spookum or some unknowable horror. Not a mentally and emotionally empty stalker with a grudge against teenagers.
While I procrastinate the burn out work pile I have let me ramble about how cool it'd be and I'm sure someone has done something similar with sound waves. But a game thats centered around vision and the way eyes see stuff in Limited cones waves of color and the sort. And the more the player progress the more it goes from simple to shrimp color intense. The terror of seeing what you shouldn't. But goes from very dull colors to so blinding it's beautiful bold and breath taking.
Anyways this is inspired by cone perceptors of the eyes and waves of light in relation to color. It's neat that rays of light and color can only be perceived so much:D and I think that's very neat. I haven't studied this much but it would be a great concept for a horror game. Maybe a grasp of eldricth who knows...
