“I’ve paid my dues.”
The statement that so many used many times. He’s heard it repeat itself over and over. The only difference was the people who spoke it to him.
He opened his eyes slowly, watching as the other’s discarded their weapons. “Don’t.” He turned to his friend who moved towards the front of drop off, he stood behind, his grip on the gun tightening.
“I know what you’re thinking.” His friend stepped forward, or rather, took another step away from him. “But...I’ve paid my dues, and...I can’t take this no more, It’s better on the other side, away from this hell.” He watched with a solemn expression as the other walked off, weapon thrown to the side without a care.
“There is nothing but hell, even out there, when you get the chance, don’t leave.” He whispered, watching the large metal door close, locking them back inside. “Because you’re earnings, will not keep you alive out there, why do you think they take back your weapon.”
