So Hops Direct’s 2015 whole leaf crop went on sale today and they were already sold out of Amarillo before the crop even went on sale. That kind of pisses me off. I understand hop contrast, but WTF! I mean Citra wasn’t even sold out. Yes, Amarillo is a proprietary hop and it was a rough year for the hop growing region, but I read several reports that said the crop of Amarillo was doing fine this year.

Looks like I’m holding on to the bit that I have left from the 2014 crop. I’m planning on brewing an India Brown for my club’s competition in early 2016. It calls for a bunch of Amarillo and I barely have enough for it.

Also looks like I’m going to be running to my local early in the morning for some Cascade. I was going to use Amarillo in the American Stout I’m brewing, but that plan changed when I found out I can’t restock with 2015 crop.

Birthday present to myself...

Well today is my birthday and Hops Direct released part of their fall crop today. One of the hops that they released was Amarillo!!! It's the only hop that I go crazy for. Since it's my birthday I went ahead and got myself a pound, not to mention it will sell out REALLY quickly.

I also got some Fuggles and Columbus. Normally I like Kent Goldings but Fuggles will work fine and I'd rather not pay for shipping twice. The Columbus is just to give me a high alpha hop for bittering. I would have liked Magnum but I'm not worried about using the Columbus. Since it's only going to be for bittering I'm not going to be using very much of it. It's also over 17% AA!!!
