The whole multi-fandom phenomenon of ‘Anon’ as, like, a character is fascinating to me.
Like, we’ve created this visual shorthand of a bald guy with no face, gray or green skin, even a question mark for a face if you’re feeling salty, as a visual shorthand for ‘This is supposed to be you. This is a template for you to project yourself over.’
But we’ve used that template so much, it’s become ingrained as just… the appearance of this established multi-fandom character named Anon.
When we see Anon, we don’t think to ourselves ‘Oh, this is a template for me to insert myself into the world of my favorite fandom.’
No, we think ‘Oh, it’s that dimension-hopping bald guy who’s super horny and gets into all kinds of shenanigans. Love that guy.’
