 Originally a Karelian cosmonaut during the Cold War, the accomplished physicist was placed as a mission specialist on board the Soyuz program. His role was to operate experimental equipment designed to study fusion reactions via plasma in the vacuum. Initially both the spaceflight and the plasma monitors went well and were soon recording valuable data for the realm of astrophysics. However when the cosmonauts began the experimentation part of the mission did things begin to go awry... The experiments yielded surprising results with plasma manipulation powering reserve energy cells within the spacecraft and providing ample opportunity for the physicist to proceed further distributing the electrical energy produced from the fusion reactions to power various sections of the spacecraft that otherly would have to be powered down to conserve energy. Amazed, he pressed further creating an even more powerful reactions within the chamber despite his comrade's warnings and the result was it growing out of control causing an implosion within. Severely damaging his section of the spacecraft as electricity sparked and flowed wildly in his module horribly electrocuting and burning his suit and body. In the subsequent crash landing of the failed voyage, only the physicist survived if his condition could even be called "living." The combination of the rapid depressurization he suffered before entering an adjacent pod along with the massive amounts of electricity that had largely fused his suit to his flesh making it impossible to remove it without killing him forcing them to resort to unconventional means...

 Rather than pull him out of the suit, the doctors and scientists instead began to repair and modify it implementing extensive life support systems which kept his tremendous pain just above the threshold where he could function once more. Following this, he began to assist in the treatment, openly allowing a great deal of experimentation on himself and secretly adding his own additions to the suit for the most prevalent issue present with his new form: Electricity. The incident's unusual circumstances caused the massive amounts of electrical energy to continually flow through his melded suit, so much so in fact it created a hazard for the researchers treating him as discharge would occasionally flare out and shock the staff. In his own modifications he added a complex system of nodes and conductive fibers meshed into the suit connected to a control console on his chest. By monitoring the electrical levels and adjusting his suit's conditions from the console, he can turn a dial to control the amount of electricity he can discharge at will so as to prevent any additional accidents.
