Heroes of the Dimensions: Monster-Human Hybrids Lore Post 1
Topic 1: The Blood Born
Hello and welcome to a new series called HoD Lore. Where I basically go over important pieces of lore for the grand Multi-verse of Heroes of the Dimensions. I'll be talking about Monster-Human hybrids but more specifically my original race called the Bloodborn, not to be confused for the Fromsoftware game of the same title. But first some genral lore about Blood borns.
Bloodborn are a combination of both humans/humanoids and dragons. However there more dragon by blood as they are the decendents of half-dragons and humans/Humanoids. This is due to the fact that the humans/humanoids who often reproduced with Half-dragons, likely carried the shapeshifting gene. Leading to where bloodborns are humans/humanoids with the ability to transform into dragons and back into humans rather than being a true quarter hybrid. Or at least that is what is speculated by the Scholars of Dankishi, there is no official confirmation as to how the blood born came to be. This is because Bloodborn are extremely rare in the first place. Very few records are around about their existence and very few talk about their origins. Leading to mainly speculation about how they came to be and why there are so few around.
What is known about the Bloodborn is that they have to have some relation to a specific type of dragon and have some means in their gene to be able to transform into a dragon of that specific type. Cause compared to other shapeshifters, they can only turn into dragons instead of able to transform into multiple things. Another known thing is that a Bloodborn's ability to transform is related to their eyes. Bloodborns who can transform often have speckled eyes.
Ex: Speckled Eye
While those without speckles often can't transform.
Ex: Non-speckled
In fact, the speckled eye is very specific to bloodborns. While human/humanoid eyes can have flecks of color, Bloodborns have it as a marker as to whether they can turn into a huge fuck off dragon or not.
Other known draconic traits are having scales appear across their body acting as a form of vitiligo, sharp canines, longer nails, pointed ears, lizard pupils, horns and any other draconic trait. Some Bloodborn may have more draconic traits than human, some may have no draconic trait to them, most tend to have some kind of draconic trait to them as the most common is sharp canines.
While their physiology is quite different from a regular human/humanoid in the fact that their blood has a higher platelet count, making their blood tend to clot faster and more often than the average human/humanoid. Why do they have a higher platelet count? It's to accommodate their huge fuck off dragon forms. The extra platelets allow enough blood flow for their dragon forms to function and able to last injury. Which is why hemophilia is a dangerous genetic disorder for them as it can make it easier for them to bleed out in dragon form compared to human form. Hence you can joke that all Bloodborns have Thick blood, as all of them in human form can't die of bloodloss. However due to this, they often have to keep their blood from clotting in human form by eating blood thinning foods like garlic and tomatoes.
Bloodborns due to their draconic ancestry, do have enhanced senses compared to humans. As they basically have the same smelling range as a Komodo dragon but tracking capacities of a bloodhound, meaning they can smell someone or something from 5 miles away and track them down. While their hearing is the equivalent of a Barn Owl with the range of a wolf, making them able to know exactly the distance and direction even from far away. While their eyesight can detect enemies from far away like an eagle. Allowing them advantages over humans. However, some blood born may only have a mix of sences enhanced. For Example, one bloodborn has excellent hearing and smell but their eyesight is the same as a human's, while another could have great sight and hearing but their sense of smell is lacking. These carry over to dragon form as well.
Bloodborns who can transform often have to consume a lot more food and need more rest compared to those that can't. This is because transforming is fucking exhausting on their bodies, as it's basically changing your entire body into something else. Hence why it takes weeks/months for a Transforming Bloodborn to be able to transform again. As their body has to rest from the taxing effects of the transformation.
The first time transformation is very scary for Bloodborns, as it can be triggered by an intense emotional trigger and due to this, they often can't control their draconic forms as their conscious is disconnected from their body in a form of disassociation. Leading to massive damages if not controlled. However, some Bloodborn have been able to stay in control of their bodies upon the first transformation but it's a very rare occurrence.
A major effect caused by their draconic instincts is depending on the type of dragon, is to basically hoard shit. They often have a strong desire to create a hoard of some kind, whether it be coins, gems, books or any other valuable item. While Others could hoard something due to a lack of something in their lives, for example a Bloodborn may hoard photos of loved ones due to a lack of connection or create many connections with people due to a lack community. No matter what, bloodborns will hoard something no matter material or not. Another could be having a strong desire to destroy or highly aggressive behavior. While another could be a deep longing for wisdom and knowledge. It really depends on the natural instincts of the Bloodborn.
Bloodborn may have different abilites depending on the type of dragon they are. For example, one character might be able to drink blood as a form of health recovery, while another may be more sensitive to ghosts and spirits. All this depends on the type of dragon they are descended from.
